The Best Arc Raiders Skill Tree

Find out which skills you should definitely take, and which ones you should definitely not, to become the best at Arc Raiders.

The Arc Raiders skill tree is one of the game’s most meaningful progression systems, shaping everything from how you traverse open terrain to how efficiently you can loot, craft, and survive mid-raid chaos. Embark has done players a genuine favor by placing the most universally useful skills at the front of each tree, while reserving deeper specialization for the later tiers. The structure encourages experimentation and personalization as you level, making each build feel intentional.

That said, the skill tree has a notable problem: several tooltips are vague, misleading, or simply don’t communicate the true in-game effect. Since launch, the only reliable way to understand many of these skills has been to sift through community testing, creator breakdowns, and raw empirical trial-and-error. If you're resetting your build or preparing for future patches that may shake things up, this guide highlights the best QoL picks, the most impactful PvP tools, and the notorious “bait” skills that don’t deliver on what you might think.

Don’t Get Baited By These Skills

The biggest flaw in Embark’s otherwise strong tree design is the lack of up-front clarity. Many skills sound great, but their real performance ranges from underwhelming to outright negligible. These are the ones to watch out for.

Effortless Roll

Arc Raiders Wiki

Effortless Roll looks incredible at first glance—reduced stamina cost on dodge rolls should be a major survivability upgrade. But the numbers tell a different story.

From a full stamina bar, Effortless Roll only nets you one additional roll if you spam dodge to depletion. Even worse: the breakpoint for gaining that extra roll doesn’t happen until you’ve invested three out of five points. Unless you’re deeply committed to maximizing the upper Mobility tree to min-max PvP, you may want to skip this one entirely. The return on investment simply isn’t worth the point expenditure early on. (In my case I like to have 3 points in it. But I run at PvP Day and Night)

Calming Stroll

Arc Raiders Wiki

Calming a stroll is an absurd skill. Most players, like myself, initially thought this would be a necessary skill. When standing still you regenerate stamina so quickly and what could be better than doing that when you're not sprinting… The skill says “while walking”. In Arc Raiders your default movement speed when not sprinting is classified as a jog. Walking is much slower and requires you to press an additional key to activate. Essentially making the skill useless since the survival tree offers increased Stamina regeneration when crouched which is far more useful in stressful PvP scenarios.

QoL-Improving Skills You Should Take Early

Arc Raiders is a game where quality-of-life improvements directly translate into performance. Longer stamina bars, smarter crafting, and more flexible carrying capacity all accumulate into meaningful gains over a long raid.

Below are the early-level picks that feel universally strong.

Marathon Runner & Youthful Lungs

Arc Raiders Wiki

The Mobility tree has some filler—but these two are absolutely not part of it.

Arc Raiders consistently forces you into long-distance movement:

  • crossing open fields,
  • repositioning around fights,
  • retreating or pushing through contested areas
  • sprinting between objectives with minimal cover.

Running out of stamina mid-engagement—especially in open sightlines—is one of the fastest ways to get deleted. Marathon Runner and Youthful Lungs dramatically reduce that risk. Together, they significantly improve distance coverage, combat mobility, and post-fight reposition potential.

If you value survivability, consistency, or simply want a smoother gameplay loop, these two should be high on your priority list.

In-Round Crafting

Arc Raiders Wiki

One of Arc Raiders’ core tension points is its limited loadout system. No matter how well-prepared you are before deployment, you will run out of meds, utility, or gadgets in prolonged raids.

In-Round Crafting effectively lets you “cheat” that limitation by producing crucial items on demand.

If you regularly play in a trio, only one teammate technically needs to invest in this skill, but the payoff is enormous. My squad has benefited from the flexibility almost every raid.

Traveling Tinker

Traveling Tinker expands this system even further, granting access to a wider set of in-raid recipes. Better heals, better utility, and—most importantly—the ability to craft the Raider Hatch Key, which is a lifesaver during difficult daytime extractions.

For players prioritizing efficiency and survival, the Survival tree becomes a goldmine once these two skills are online.

Broad Shoulders

Arc Raiders Wiki

Carry weight is one of the most underestimated forms of friction in Arc Raiders. It takes shockingly little—one fight or a short looting run—to become overweight. Once you’re slowed, everything becomes harder: fighting, rotating, repositioning, escaping.

Broad Shoulders adds up to 10 kg at max rank, which is a much more meaningful improvement than it may appear on paper. The “burden” it removes from your gameplay loop is substantial, especially if you’re a loot-focused player or someone who likes to carry extra weapons.

PvP-Focused Skills Worth Considering

When bullets start flying, certain skills go from “nice to have” to “the reason you survived.” If you regularly contest other squads—or want a mobility edge—these are worth the points.

Slip & Slide

Crouching is slow, going prone doesn’t exist, and sprinting in a straight line is a death wish. Sliding is often the strongest defensive and repositioning tool in the game.

Slip & Slide enhances this in several crucial ways:

  • longer slides,
  • more speed,
  • more distance,
  • and the ability to keep regenerating stamina mid-slide.

You can also rotate your camera freely without impacting your movement vector, which is massive for scanning behind you or tracking threats while escaping. In high-pressure PvP, Slip & Slide frequently makes the difference between escaping, disengaging, or successfully closing the gap.

For mobility-focused players, this is one of the most essential PvP skills.

Loot-Improving Skills

Not every raid is won in combat. Sometimes, information and stealth determine your fate.

Gentle Pressure

Breaching is loud—dangerously loud. Without Gentle Pressure, breaching a door often feels like setting off a flare for every squad in the area.

Gentle Pressure decreases breach noise substantially, making it much safer to infiltrate higher-tier areas or approach contested loot rooms. It's especially valuable for slower, more methodical players who rely on timing and surprise.

If you value stealth or simply want fewer third-party encounters, a few points in this skill help tremendously.

My Personal Recommendation

Solo Player Skill Tree

This would be my recommendation for any solo or PvP participating player. It offers a strong balance of stamina, combat orientated quality of life and loot orientated quality of life. It doesn’t include the loot embellishing skills that some might like but should offer you a stronger chance of making it back to Speranza on the regular. There are many options that can suit your playstyle better than mine. Feel free to play around with the skill tree builder I used to plan my gameplay.

Skill Tree Planner

Conclusion

The Arc Raiders skill tree is thoughtfully designed, but the in-game descriptions often fail to communicate the real power (or lack thereof) behind individual skills. With information scattered across creator tests and community experimentation, it’s easy to waste points on underwhelming skills.

Fortunately, many skills offer massive value once you know what to prioritize—Marathon Runner, Youthful Lungs, Slip & Slide, Gentle Pressure, Broad Shoulders, and the In-Round Crafting path all meaningfully enhance both survival and consistency. As you prepare for your next expedition these recommendations should help you avoid common traps and invest where it truly counts.
