The Best Tips & Tricks to Reach Champions League in Fortnite

Getting into Champions League in Fortnite unlocks the ability to participate in tournaments with cash prizes and play with the best players in the game. This guide includes resources to improve your gamesense, mechanics, and overall skills to reach Champions League in Fortnite - Battle Royale.

Many Fortnite players that enjoy the game but would like an extra challenge end up dipping their toes into the Arena game mode, Fortnite’s ranked mode. However, they are often discouraged by the overall increase in skill in Arena lobbies, and they end up hitting a plateau and are not able to progress into the higher ranks. If one reaches the highest division in Fortnite, or Champions League, they unlock the ability to participate in tournaments with cash prizes, as well as playing with some of the best players in their region.

This guide provides a variety of useful tips and tricks to help you break past your plateau and progress into the higher ranks.

Understanding the format

Fortnite’s Arena game mode keeps track of your progress through hype, colloquially known as “points.” You can earn hype in Arena games by reaching certain placement thresholds or gaining eliminations. You can also earn hype by playing in the Hype Cups.

Let’s take a look at the hype format for Arena’s solo game mode.

Choose the Right Drop Spots

As we observe in the format table above, placement can be a key component in reaching the Champions League, particularly if you are not as skilled in your fighting mechanics. In order to maximize placement, we need to minimize the number of engagements we take by avoiding other players.

We can accomplish this by taking two steps: picking an isolated drop spot near the edge of the map, and rotating dead-side.

For picking a drop spot, you should visit fortnite.gg and try to identify an area near the edge of the map with at least six potential chest spawns, which should provide you with enough weapons and shield to play out the game.

Watch Your Rotation

After looting your chests, your next step is to perform a rotation known as deadside rotate. To accomplish this, you want to rotate towards the edge of the circle that is closest to the boundaries of the map and opposite of the direction in which most people will have to rotate to. Let’s take a look at an example.

Assume that we have landed at the red circle marked on the map above, and the first zone reveals itself as the area marked in the yellow circle. To perform a deadside rotate in this scenario, we want to swim along the northern coast until we reach the top left mountain range, as this will be the most isolated side, or dead side, in the safe area. Also note that most people will be rotating into this new circle from the bottom right side, so engagements are more likely to occur in that region.

As you are rotating, try to take advantage of tall hills or mountains. Areas that provide natural height allow you to scout the rotation ahead of you for any potential threats that may appear on your path.

Because players in Arena lobbies are eliminated at a higher rate than their tournament counterparts, it is safer to rotate into the next zones by staying on the edge of the safe area as it closes in to minimize the number of engagements you encounter. During the time in between, hiding in a bush or in a building would be a wise move.

Improve Your Mechanical Skills in Fortnite

If you want to reach the Champions League sooner, you can gain additional points by acquiring eliminations. In order to get more eliminations in a game, you must practice your mechanical skills in Fortnite.

There are three essential mechanics in Fortnite: building, editing, and aim.

YouTuber Billy Biceps produces great content that covers much of the building and editing aspects of Fortnite, particularly geared towards beginners. If you are new to developing advanced building and editing skills, I would suggest starting with the following video:

After mastering the techniques in the above video, practice edit courses, in which you focus on performing edits and perfecting them through repetition. You can use the island code 1593-3986-3647 to practice.

Once you have a hang of this, you can watch pro players play, and slow down their gameplay and attempt to replicate their moves. Over time, you will expand the number of plays you are able to make.

As you gain more confidence in your building and editing, you should play Raider’s piece control map, which shows different techniques to outplay your opponents, and helps solidify these moves as a part of your gameplay through repetition. You can then perform these moves in realistic 1v1’s, or Arena.

This video showcases what moves to perform, and includes the island code to play the map:

The Best Times to Play Arena

The best times to play Arena are weekdays right before or right after school, or during tournaments. At these times, the players participating in the Arena tend to belong to a more casual crowd, making your games slightly easier.

Conclusion

If you have followed the steps above, you will catapult yourself into the highest divisions in Arena and will gradually become a better player. You will also gain access to an exclusive weapon wrap and cash prize tournaments.
