Perhaps the biggest focus of the newest season of Fortnite is the use of vehicles and vehicle mods. Adding weapons, better tires, and bumper modifications to the vehicle you are driving can turn it from a simple way to get around the map to a deadly killing machine, helping you wipe out the competition. Vehicle mods are super easy to add to your vehicle too; all you need to do is run over the crate with the mod you want in it, and it will instantly be added to the vehicle you are driving. However, out of the seven total mods, some stand out more than others. This article is going to go over the modification categories and talk about the best choice to pick from each of them!
A Quick Note: Repair Mod
While this mod technically doesn’t add anything to your vehicle, it is still important to keep an eye out for it. If your ride sustains a lot of damage, it’s only a matter of time before you will have to abandon it and look for another one. Utilizing the repair mods when you come across them can be extremely useful in keeping your vehicle around longer, especially in longer skirmishes. Since most people are utilizing these mods and using vehicles to fight, it makes it that much more important to ensure that you’re keeping the health of yours as high as possible, so make sure you are using the repair mods when you come across them!
Weapon Mods: Machine Gun Turret
There are currently two different weapon mods that you can add to your vehicle in Fortnite. The Machine Gun Turret is a simple, fully automatic machine gun that has unlimited ammo but has a heat gauge that, when used for too long, can overheat the weapon, causing you to wait a short duration for it to cool down before it can be used again. The other weapon mod available in the game is the Grenade Launcher. The weapon has unlimited ammo but only five grenades that explode on impact in each magazine, so the player must reload after all five are used. It is important to note that both weapons can only be used in the passenger seat of a vehicle and cannot be operated while driving.
It is tough to say which mod in this category is the best because each has their own strengths and weaknesses. If you are looking for more precision shooting and DPS, the Machine Gun Turret is the way to go, but if you want more structure and vehicle damage, the Grenade Launcher does the job better. Overall, however, in terms of raw damage and flexibility, the Machine Gun Turret is a bit more useful; however, both mods are very strong and can be used in many different situations. This category is often up to preference, so if you prefer the Grenade Launcher, that is a completely reasonable choice.
Bumper Mods: Cow Catcher
The two bumper mods to choose from add similar properties to the car but also have different characteristics. The Cow Catcher, which has been in the game for a while, adds increased ramming to structures as well as increasing the hitbox and health of the vehicle it is attached to. The Spiked Bumper adds increased damage to environmental obstacles, structures, and players. Both modifications can be destroyed but can be added back to vehicles if found again.
Depending on what you want to achieve with your vehicle, both options can be good choices. However, I do think that if you already have a weapon mod on your vehicle, the Cow Catcher is a slightly better option. The increased health that you receive with this mod can really make a big difference in some situations. However, if you do not have a weapon mod on your vehicle, the Spiked Bumper can be a great option as well.
Tire Mods: Bulletproof Tires
Like the previous two categories, there are another two options to pick from when you are looking for tire mods. The Off-Road Tires give your vehicle better traction and steering when you are on slopes and other terrain that is not the designated road. These can be great for making quick escapes through tough terrain, but they can be shot and destroyed. Bulletproof Tires, on the other hand, cannot be destroyed or shot off by any means other than your entire car being destroyed, but they do not add any movement or terrain benefits when used.
Due to the chaotic nature of the game currently, I believe that the Bulletproof Tires are the clear winner here. While it is nice to have increased mobility in some places on the map while driving, it won’t matter much if your tires are shot out before you get a chance to utilize them. Bulletproof Tires have great defensive value and are, in most cases, the better option to choose from when looking for a tire mod.
Conclusion
The emphasis on vehicles and vehicle mods in Chapter 5: Season 3 has shifted the meta into a unique gameplay experience. Instead of focusing heavily on weapons and grounded gameplay like in the past, the addition of vehicle mods and more vehicles has added a bit of a twist to the meta of the game. With this shift, it is important to know what to look out for if you are utilizing these changes to the fullest. Hopefully you found this article beneficial, and you know which vehicle mods to keep an eye out for next time you strap in to your tricked-out ride!
