The Rarest Fortnite Skins and Cosmetics: Do You Have Any of These OG Items?

Find out what the rarest cosmetics are in Fortnite and how you might be able to still get them!

Fortnite, the hugely popular battle royale game, generated an astonishing $5.6 billion in revenue for Epic Games in 2021. For a free-to-play game, this shows just how much players love the different cosmetic items you can purchase using V-Bucks, Fortnite’s in-game currency, in the daily updated item shop. People enjoy giving their characters a unique look with outfits, weapon wraps, gliders, back blings, and more. Some of these items are super rare because they were only available for a short time, needed a special code, or simply showed up in the shop a couple of times.

In this article, we'll explore these special Fortnite items and find out what makes them so rare and coveted. Afterward, you might even want to check into your own Fortnite locker to see if you own any of them!

Aerial Assault Trooper

Strap in, because we're diving into the legend of the Aerial Assault Trooper! This iconic skin was exclusively available to players who soared to Level 15 in Chapter 1 Season 1. It's a relic of the past, never to grace the item shop again - a true badge of honor for the early pioneers of Fortnite.

Black Knight

When the Black Knight steps onto the battlefield, you're in the presence of a bona fide OG player. This coveted skin was the crown jewel for those who conquered Level 70 in Chapter 1 Season 2.

Black Widow

The original Black Widow stormed the scene in April 2019, making a few appearances in the item shop before vanishing in May. Now, it stands as one of the game's rarest skins. For those who missed the opportunity to purchase the original Black Widow skin, have no fear. The "Snowsuit" version based on Scarlet Johanson's personification of the Black Widow, often makes an appearance in the item shop as a part of Fortnite's ongoing partnership with Marvel.

Double Helix

Fortnite is famous for creating code-exclusive cosmetics that can only be attained through the purchase of specific physical items. The Double Helix is one of these code-bound gems, available only to players who purchase the Helix Nintendo Switch bundle. While this skin is exceptionally rare, these bundles can still be found at select retailers, such as Wal-Mart.

Fresh Emote

The Fresh emote is one of the rarest emotes in Fortnite and is almost certain to never return to the item shop. The emote is based on the “Carlton Dance”, featured in the 90’s pop culture phenomenon show, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” The actor who portrayed Carlton, Alfonso Ribeiro, filed a lawsuit against Epic Games over the emote but later dropped it. Players who purchased the emote still retain it in their inventory, however, it's still not likely to return to the shop due to the controversy.

Galaxy

In 2018, Samsung entered a partnership with Fortnite to help promote the release of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy Tab S4. As a part of the partnership, customers who purchased either device could choose between a set of headphones or 15,000 V-bucks and the Galaxy skin. Customers were required to download Fortnite and play a total of 3 games on it before the skin would be gifted to them in their inventory.

Golden Peely

In Chapter 2 Season 2, Fortnite began allowing players to level up past level 100 and offered bonus rewards for players to grind for. The most sought-after reward was the fully gold Peely skin, only reachable when players hit Level 300.

Heartspan Glider

Love was in the air in February 2019 when Fortnite dropped the Heartspan Glider as a Valentine's Day gift. But there was a catch - it could only be gifted from one player to another. Will this romantic glider ever grace the skies again? Only time will tell.

Jagged Edge Pickaxe

Meet the elusive Jagged Edge Pickaxes, part of the Hazcat set alongside the Catastrophe skin. These rare beauties only made a cameo in the item shop three times. While Catastrophe has made a few more appearances, her trusty pickaxes remain a treasure lost in time.

Mako Glider

Dive back into the early days with the Mako Glider, an exclusive from the Chapter 1 Season 1 "Season Shop". Only those who soared to Level 25 could get their hands on this gem. Epic Games had a momentary slip-up, briefly releasing it back into the item shop, but the error was quickly caught and the glider was again removed.

Rust Bucket Back Bling

As with any game, from time to time servers are down, glitches occur, and Epic Games apologizes to its player base by offering free rewards. In April 2019, Fortnite offered the Rust Bucket Back Bling as a free cosmetic to apologize for some unpredicted downtime. The back bling was only available to redeem in the item shop for 7 days, making it one of the rarest back blings in the game.

World Cup 2019 Wrap

The World Cup occurred in July of 2019 and while Epic Games has hosted large LAN events since, none compare to the magnitude and significance that was the 2019 Fortnite World Cup. On the weekend of the World Cup, Fortnite released exclusive cosmetics in the item shop, one being the World Cup 2019 weapon wrap. Fortnite now releases special skins to commemorate each FNCS season, so one could reason that this wrap was a one-time item and will not return to the item shop ever again.

Conclusion

Now that we have reviewed some of the most special cosmetics in the game, take a peek into your locker to see if you have any of these rare gems. If you do, wear them proudly on the battlefield and cherish these legendary items - because they're not just cosmetics; they're pieces of Fortnite history!
