How to Join the Siege

The Castle Siege system in Throne and Liberty offers an accessible, thrilling experience for guilds interested in large-scale PvP. To join a siege, players must be part of a guild, as sieges are guild-focused events requiring the coordination of hundreds of players in a 45 minute-long large-scale PvP fight. The Castle Siege event schedule is announced server-wide in advance, with sieges taking place at specific times on a rotational basis to ensure fair access for all players, you can find it in the event schedule when sorting for Daily. The first defender is chosen based on Guild Ranking, with the guild holding rank 1 being appointed as the first defenders in Stoneguard.

To participate, players in the attacking guilds must gather in staging areas outside Stoneguard Castle, while defenders (the current holders of the castle, also known as the “Legion”) organize within the castle walls. About 15 minutes before the siege begins, a server-wide warning is issued, allowing participants time to position themselves, stock up on essential items like Stellarites, World Tree Leaves & Rare Recovery Crystals.

It is also highly recommended for you to craft and use a Precious Purification Stone. This stone is used to clear crowd control (CC) effects and allows you to get out of sleeps when caught out of position. Attack Remedies share their cooldowns with the Precious Purification Stone, but you can still use them if you are a DPS player. If you are a healer or a tank, you should be using Defense Remedies!

When the battle begins, the castle zone becomes an unrestricted PvP area where all participating players receive a flag signaling their involvement in the event. For the next 45 minutes, the attacking and defending guilds battle for control over the castle and its key locations.

Key Locations

The castle and surrounding area are filled with strategic points that players can capture or control to gain an advantage. Understanding these points is essential for any successful siege.

  • Resurrection Locations: These stones are respawn points where players can resurrect during the siege, eliminating long waits to return to the fight. The guild that controls a Resurrection Stone can respawn closer to the castle, making it easier to reinforce their efforts and stay in the fight but keep in mind that other guilds can take control of these Locations so make sure they are defended.
  • Pillage Zones: Another important location within the castle grounds, the Pillage Stones can be held to gain points and take a split of the Lucent and Sollant in the castle. Maintaining control of these Pillage Zones is a good way for smaller guilds to gain a reward for participating in the siege even though they might not get the throne.
  • Siege Ruins: This location provides powerful resources that players can use as respawning and teleportation points. This is also where guilds can summon Siege Golems. Keep in mind that Legion guilds (Defenders) cannot capture these points and only Guild Leaders, Advisors and Guardians can capture them.
  • Gate Levers: If Golems can’t break through, players can open the gates manually using levers. Each of the three gates (Outer Wall, Inner Wall, and Side Gate) has a set of levers that require two players to operate. By coordinating within the guild, players can create multiple entry points to advance through the castle defenses.

Using Siege Golems for Offense

A unique and strategic feature of Throne and Liberty’s sieges is the use of Siege Golems. These magical creatures aren’t just ordinary siege tools, they’re powerful and give attackers controlling them a big advantage in breaking through the castle’s defenses.

There are several types of golems, each designed for a specific role in the assault:

  1. Stone Crashers: These golems specialize in damaging and destroying the thick walls surrounding the castle, allowing attackers to create new entry points. They are slow but deal great damage to structures.
  2. Gate Hammers: Essential for opening the main gates, these golems concentrate their power on breaking through the castle gates and these are also the only ranged golems capable of shooting lava from range.
  3. Jump Attackers: Designed for bypassing regular defenses, Jumping Golems can leap over and on top of walls, doing damage and causing chaos in the enemy lines.
  4. Battle Carriers: These large golems serve as mobile platforms, allowing attackers to be transported over walls and other defenses, they are equipped with grapples and can be of great use in the beginning of the siege before the walls come crashing down.

Golems are vital for attackers, as they add another layer of strategy. However, they can be countered by defenders, who must decide whether to focus on the golems or the attacking players themselves.

Player Colors

  • Blue: Friendly guilds’ players show a blue guild mark as these players are either in your guild or part of the alliance.
  • Red: Rival guilds have red marks, shown with a random code name in order to prevent teaming up between guilds and alliances as this was a major issue in the Korean NCsoft launch of the game.
  • Yellow: The Usurping Guild will be displayed as yellow, showing the guild that is currently trying to take over the castle after taking control of the throne.
  • Special Icons: Guild leaders, Guardians, and Officers get unique icons next to their names for quick recognition.

These colors help players identify allies and opponents during intense siege action.

How to Win the Siege

The ultimate goal for attackers is to capture the castle throne room and claim the throne. To do this. Here are a few ways your guild can make it to the throne:

  1. Ground Force Superiority: Use the golems and superior numbers or a well-organized alliance to dominate the battlefield and take control of Resurrection Locations without fighting for the Pillage Zones and not lose numbers in your offense for the throne.
  2. Stealth: Sneak in through the sewers, taking backstreets and sneaking around the castle while other guilds fight over Pillage Zones, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike and push for the throne.
  3. Whale Riding: Gigantrite (the massive whale that travels around the world) spawns in and begins to move towards the Stoneguard Castle. Guilds can exploit this by riding the whale straight into the castle, avoiding walls and defenses entirely while diving down straight for the throne.

Once inside the throne room, the attacking guild leader or a designated player must interact with the throne to initiate the “Usurper” phase.

In the Usurper phase, the player who claims the throne temporarily transforms into a stronger version of their character. This character gains enhanced stats and abilities, making it harder for defenders to kill. The Usurper must survive for 3 minutes within the throne room to take control of the castle.

Keep in mind that if your guild become the Usurpers, your guild will change color, making it much more difficult to sneak around and regroup as many other guilds would try to focus against the Usurpers. Usurpers then must control the castle until the end of the siege to win!

For Defenders, the goal is simple: prevent attackers from reaching the throne room and claiming the throne. They can do this by defending key areas, focusing on strategic points like Resurrection Locations to limit the attackers’ ability to respawn near the castle, and coordinating to counter the Siege Golems. If defenders hold the throne room until the timer runs out, they retain control of the castle and are declared the winners.

Rewards for Victory

The guild that wins the siege gains control over the castle, along with exclusive rewards, Lucent and Sollant based on how much of each was collected into the castle between sieges. It is down to the guild leadership how they split the earned Sollant and Lucent though! The warring guilds are also awarded unique titles and bragging rights.

Best of luck to you in your upcoming battles!
