The Yordle Gunner - A Guide to Dragonsoul Tristana Slow Roll

A breakdown on how to snowball utilizing Chosen Dragonsoul Tristana.

Overview

Chosen Dragonsoul Tristana is a comp, that based on its namesake, you can probably assume is focused around running Chosen Tristana. Similar to a lot of other compositions that are based around a one cost carry, we are dependent on a number of things: finding our Chosen unit early, being able to slow roll, and items that complement our carry. This time around we’re looking at how to win early and snowball with Chosen Dragonsoul Tristana.

Some Things to Remember

First, this composition is extremely dependent on Chosen Tristana being a Dragonsoul and not a Sharpshooter. The second thing we are dependent on is finding early Recurve Bows. Tristana requires Guinsoo’s Rageblade and Statikk Shiv in order to carry the early game. This means we are going to need at least one of those items by the shared draft right after round 2-3. Ideally you will have both items before round 3-1. Also, remember that Tristana’s third item is very flexible, but I tend to favor Quicksilver. The last thing to note is the fact that this composition is defined by its early game prowess and ability to translate that power into having Aurelion Sol carry the late game.

Composition

Your final composition will look something like this with Tristana and Aurelion Sol being the carries.

Early Game

In the early game, when conditions for the composition are met, you want to pair Tristana with either Braum or Brand in order to achieve three Dragonsoul. Make sure not to level at all early as you are looking to horde gold in an attempt to hit fifty gold as early as possible. Along the way to fifty gold make sure you are buying Lulu, Brand, and Braum in addition to Tristana. Your goal is to achieve three-star Tristana as early into the game as possible. To win streak early, make sure to find another vanguard to pair with Braum or a couple of mages to pair with Brand. You can also find an early Sharpshooter, ideally high rolling a Sivir at level four to pair with Tristana. Your early game composition will look something like this.

Mid Game

At level five you should be slow rolling down to fifty gold each round until you find three-star Tristana. You should be able to achieve fifty gold with this strategy around round 3-1 or 3-2 if you are using your gold properly. Once you find three-star Tristana you should feel quite strong and want to translate this lead into slow leveling to level eight. You are attempting to continue using your powerful early game in order to transition from Tristana’s early power into Aurelion Sol’s late game power. Along the way an example of a composition you should look for is something like this.

Once you hit level seven, hopefully you can high roll a few four cost units as your ideal composition is pictured below. If you can’t find Aatrox you can use a Dragonsoul unit, Shyvana or Olaf, instead in order to achieve six Dragonsouls. As you move into the late stages of the game you want to be finding items that allow for your Aurelion Sol to carry. Ideally these items are Jeweled Gauntlet, Hextech Gunblade, in addition to either Infinity Edge, Guardian Angel, or Blue Buff.

Late Game

Your late game looks to add Swain as the final piece to the puzzle. This gives you your sixth and final Dragonsoul which should allow you to place rather high in your lobby. Your positioning can look something like the image below, but always remember to adapt to your lobby. This comp is very capable of putting you into very powerful positions come the late game. If you find yourself in this position you can hit level nine and put in Vladimir in order to achieve both 3 Cultists as well as 2 Syphoners. Level nine also gives you a better chance to hit two-star Swain as well as a game changing three-star Aurelion Sol.

Things to Remember

Your defensive items that don’t quite fit on your carries can either go on Aatrox or Swain. However, your ideal Swain items as the game goes late consist of Guardian Angel, Hextech Gunblade, and Morellonomicon.

If you don’t have the setup to run Tristana with at least Guinsoo’s Rageblade and Statikk Shiv, then stay far away from this composition. These items are the catalyst for Chosen Tristana to find carry potential and without them you will often find yourself struggling as Tristana is rather weak without items.

Garen is just an example for an early Vanguard to pair with Braum. Nautilus and Wukong are also viable early game front line to pair with Braum.

This composition is often uncontested for most of the units involved, but Aurelion Sol is commonly found in other powerful compositions at the moment. Therefore, make sure to try and hit level seven and eight before people also searching for Aurelion Sol.

Just reminder that items for your carries look something like this:
