Top 5 Most Important Fortnite Settings by Pro Player Acorn

Professional Fortnite player DIG Acorn lists five of the most important settings and features players should be optimizing and utilizing to up their game in Fortnite.

There are several settings and features within Fortnite that players may overlook or might not think are important. However, there are several that can be crucial to improve one’s gameplay. We sat down with one of the best, Abdullah "Acorn" Akhras, and asked him what he thinks five of the most important settings and features in Fortnite are and how players should be utilizing them.

1. Mouse Sensitivity

We all knew this was going to be here: mouse sensitivity. While it is an obvious setting to label as “important,” how comfortable you are with your mouse sensitivity can really make a huge difference in how you perform. Make sure you choose a sensitivity that you feel you have the most control over.

Acorn: "Have a sensitivity that you feel you have enough mouse room for. You feel like you can consistently aim pretty well, you’re not running out of mouse room that much. Make sure you’re hitting your shots.”

It is possible to be at a plateau period with your sensitivity too, so don’t be afraid to change it around a bit and lower or raise your sensitivity to see if the change improves your gameplay at all. You can always go back and change it again later.

Acorn: “Sometimes you do just need a sense switch, to be honest.”

2. Key Bindings

Like sensitivity, key bindings often will come down to how comfortable the individual player is with their bindings. However, there are still ways to optimize your key bindings to give you more of an advantage in games when you are in certain situations. For example, if your mouse has buttons that you can bind different commands to, that is always a nice feature to have to prevent you from having to put all your inputs on your keyboard.

Acorn: “Make sure your keybinds are pretty optimal. Make sure you have some mouse binds, I would say two mouse binds are good, and two keyboard binds, so you’re spamming your keyboard all the time.”

Take your time to adjust your key bindings accordingly. Just like sensitivity, don’t be afraid to shake things up and move some bindings around to see if a new input on a different binding feels better!

3. Monitor

While this setting can have a bit of a financial barrier, it still is important to note. Having a good monitor with a higher refresh rate will always give you an advantage in-game and make things run smoother. Make sure you go into your display settings in your operating system to make sure your monitor is running at a higher refresh rate, then increase the setting in-game.

Acorn: “If you can upgrade to a higher refresh rate, that’s always important. It will always give you an advantage. Me, I think 240hz is optimal. Once you’re at 240hz, you should be fine.”

4. Optimizing Frame Rate

Tying in with monitor settings, making sure that you have optimal performance settings is crucial if you want to have an advantage in the game. Turning down graphics quality and enabling any performance-boosting settings can ensure that your game runs at a higher frame rate. While it’s nice to have higher graphics settings on to see more details, if you want to focus on the gameplay, turning down these settings and getting a needed boost in frame rate is well worth the tradeoff.

Acorn: “Make sure you are on the best settings to get you more frames. At the end of the day in Fortnite it’s very hard to get frames because there’s so much going on. There are 100 players in the lobby. Make sure you have your settings optimized in the game itself. Make sure everything is on low except maybe view distance and turn performance mode on.”

5. Replays

Watching back your gameplay and making sure that you have replays enabled is the last but arguably most important feature to keep note of. Watching back replays and studying your VODs on what you did right and wrong is a key component in improving not just in Fortnite, but in any game. Make sure you rewatch each replay until you understand what went wrong where and what worked out in each situation and why; that way you can apply what you learn to your next match.

Acorn: “Make sure your replays are on so you can go back and watch your games, it’ll help you improve in the long term.”

Conclusion

A huge thank you to Acorn for sitting down for a chat and giving some tips to players on how to utilize these settings and features to improve. Keep an eye out for more interviews and guides with Acorn in the future!
