Callouts are important in any video game. It builds team chemistry, informs teammates of enemy positions, and allows you and your teammates to pick up enemy patterns so that you can plan your strategies more efficiently. We’ll be going through callouts that may not necessarily appear on your mini map’s map labels to help you and your team inform each other more accurately.
Ascent
Map from Blitz.gg
The first area of A Site that has alternate callouts would be “A Rafters”. This area is often referred to as Heaven. Heaven is a term carried over from Counter Strike that refers to an area above a site that looks over it. The area underneath Heaven would be referred to as Hell or Under Heaven.
The area on site that does not have a callout would be Generator or Genny for short. This callout refers to the large rectangle generator that is on the site, typically used as a spike plant location. This does not have a name on the mini map and is vital during plants and post plants.
The area adjacent to that listed on the mini map as “A Link” is called Tree. Tree has been used as a callout due to the area’s defining characteristic of housing a large tree.
Here we can see Heaven, Hell, Generator, and the entrance into Tree (as well as the tree’s foliage).
Towards Mid, there are two areas that are not in the minimap that are used for callouts. The first being Subroza which is underneath Mid Top cradled next to Mid Catwalk. This area is named after professional Valorant player Subroza after making a memorable play hiding in that spot.
The area that is labeled on the mini map but referred to as a different name by players would be Mid Link. Players call that Tiles. The trend for callouts is to stick to defining characteristics of an area or the color of the area. Mid Link is referred to as Tiles because of the tile flooring leading into the grassy area of Mid.
Here we see the pocket of Subroza and the walls that protect the area of Tiles.
B Site has a lot more callouts that are not on the mini map compared to A Site. Moving in from B Main, we have Lane which is to the immediate left of the Attackers. This is one of the entrances onto site. To the right of Lane, we have Logs. Logs is used as a hiding spot for Defenders. Its name comes from the pile of logs in the area.
The area in front of Logs and adjacent to Lane would be known as Shed or Boat House. The area behind Shed would be Stairs, which lead to the Defender’s Spawn which would be CT or Alley.
To the right of the player would be Logs; to the left (out of the picture) would be Lane. Shed, is seen in the picture to the left. Behind that would be Stairs. The gap in the wall in front of the player would be Alley.
The amended minimap would look like this.
Bind
Map from Blitz.gg
Starting with A Site of Bind, the only structure on the site that is not labeled would be the boxes on site that shield a popular spike plant area. This stack of boxes is referred to as Tetris. One of the Defender’s entrances onto site is labeled as Vent in the mini map, whereas players call it Pipes, due to the pipes in the hallway.
Also note, the entrance to the Teleporter on A Site is labeled as “A Port”, players often refer to a Teleporter as TP rather than Port.
Here we see the stack of boxes known as Tetris. The top of the image shows the entrance to Pipes.
From the Attackers Side towards B Site, the mini map labels an area “B Lobby”. Most players refer to this area as Fountain because of the circular fountain toward the back of the area. Making the way onto B Site from Fountain, is an area called Garden on the mini map, although Garden is the popular callout, it is also referred to as Octagon by many players (although it has 6 sides).
There is one structure on B Site itself which players refer to as Box. The spike cannot be planted on top of it, however it is popular to plant inside of it.
Below the player would be Box. In front of the player slightly to the right would be Octagon where that would lead to Fountain.
This is what the amended minimap would look like:
Breeze
Map from Blitz.gg
Breeze is a large wide open map which calls for a lot of labels on the mini map. Only a few additions are made to Breeze to help pinpoint locations on such a large map. A Site’s distinct pyramids are labeled on the mini map; however, a lot of players like to call out Left Pyramid, Right Pyramid, or Middle regarding any activity on the site. Behind Pyramids would be Backsite. To the left of backsite near “Switch” would be Stairs (which are stairs that lead up to the switch by the door). The area labeled “Mid Wood Doors” that leads into Mid is known to players as Double Doors.
In this picture we see the two Pyramids on site as well as Backsite to the left. On the right we see the doorway that leads to the Double Doors. Bottom right and outside of the picture is Stairs that lead up to the metal door in the picture.
Since both side’s spawn stretches to cover a majority of the map, there are two callouts within Attacker’s Side Spawn that are not labeled on the mini map. The first being Rudy’s, which is a small shop with Rudy’s written above it. Players can play here to catch enemies off guard on rotations. The next area that is not labeled on Attacker’s Spawn is Mermaid. This area is where “Snake” and “Mid Cannon” meet. It is called Mermaid because of the mural of a mermaid on the wall. Above Mermaid and in between “B Main” and “B Elbow” is a space that does not have a name attributed to it on the mini map. This area is referred to as B Link.
In the forefront is Rudy’s Radio Shack. In the distance to the left we see the Mermaid mural.
The amended minimap would look like this:
Fracture
Map from Blitz.gg
Fracture is unlike any map on Valorant. Defenders spawn in the middle of the map rather than the opposite side of the Attackers. This unorthodox map design makes callouts a little bit harder which is why a lot of players stick with the names that are on the map.
On A Site, there are two levels in which the Attacker can plant the spike. Which is why specifying A Top or A Bottom is important when calling out where the spike is planted. One of the entrances onto A Site called “A Drop” is often referred to as A Heaven from other players.
On B Site, there is a pocket of space on the site that is not listed on the mini map, this is often referred to as B Cubby.
Since the Attackers can attack from the front or back of a site, a callout of a Front Push or a Back Push is needed to specify which direction the Attackers are coming from. A Front Push would be a push from where the Attackers initially spawn, whereas a Back Push is from the area which the Attackers have to take a rope across the map to get to.
The amendments and clarifications of this map are shown here:
Haven
Map from Blitz.gg
Haven’s three spike sites are unorthodox; however, the map layout is pretty standard when you see the entrances and links to each site.
The mini map specifies A Site’s “Heaven” and “Bottom A”; however, “Bottom A” is also referred to as Hell or Below Heaven. The area referred to as “A Short” in the mini map is often referred to as Sewers. “A Long” has three distinct callout areas throughout. Outside of “A Lobby” and into “A Long” is Bricks due to the pile of bricks on the floor. Towards “A Ramp” there are Boxes which shield the area next to it called A Cubby.
On the left of the player, we see Bricks. In front of them is Boxes which covers the area behind it which is A Cubby.
The area outside of B Site is referred to Mid. There are two areas that are not labeled on the mini map. The first area is outside of “B Door” the area immediately outside of it is called B Cubby. This is where players take cover or play post-plant. Outside in the area labeled “Mid Couryard” is an area players call Grass. Grass is in between “Mid Doors” and “Bottom Mid”. Through “Mid Doors” is “Garage” and “C Window”. “C Window” is often referred to as Garage Window.
Here we can see B Cubby right outside the entryway of B Site. The area to the left of Mid Courtyard is Grass.
The amended minimap looks like this:
Icebox
Map from Blitz.gg
Icebox follows the trend of newer maps not needing too many callout changes from what the mini map provides. It is a very straightforward map that features some verticality. A Site has a Heaven and a Hell or Below Heaven that overlooks the site. On the right side of the site is a generator that is unmarked like in Ascent. That is referred to as Generator or Genny as well.
Here we see the walkway in the back which would be Heaven and Hell (Below Heaven). Behind the Vandal is Generator.
Outside of “B Garage” is also known as B Main or Green. It gets its name from the green containers that line the walkway, which is also used as the main entrance towards “B Site”. On “B Site”, is a structure that has two levels, this is often referred to as Box. It is very similar to the box in Bind, however there is a higher level that can be accessed through a rope or walkway from “B Hall”.
Here we see Box on B Site. To the right of the player, we see part of the green container that line the walkway of B Main.
The amended map would look like this:
Split
Map from Blitz.gg
Split is another traditional map with two sites split by a middle area. On A Site of Split there are two spots that the mini map does not cover. The first would be under “A Rafters” which is also referred to as “A Heaven” (Rafters being the portion outside). Underneath Rafters is a pocket often referred to as Hell or Below Heaven. Next to that area is a box players use to hide or for post-plant positions. This box is called Flower Pot. Flower Pot is easy to identify because there is green foliage coming out of the box.
Here we see Heaven which leads out to A Rafters. Underneath (the grass area with steppingstones) would be Hell (Below Heaven). To the right of that would be Flower Pot.
In Mid there is an area called “Mid Vent”. This is also referred to as Ropes due to the room housing ropes for players to transition from “A Heaven” to Mid. Mid then leads to “B Site”. Underneath B Heaven, there is a metal platform which players use Hell or Below Heaven to call out. In front of that is a stack of boxes to hide players known as Double Box. The main entrance onto this site called “B Main” is also referred to as Garage.
Here we see the Double Boxes hiding a corner of the tower in the middle of B Site. The platform with the rope would be Hell (Below Heaven). The entrance to the right of the player blocked by the Vandal would be B Main or Garage.
This is what the amended map would look like:
Conclusion
Learning callouts can be difficult if other players do not use the names that the map provides. Learning the names that players actually use during the game is important in mastering your communication skills in-game. Knowing how callouts work, the characteristics of a certain name like “Heaven” will allow you to more accurately communicate enemy positions so that you can get more kills and wins.
