We sat down with Lyts to get caught up with him talking about his time as a content creator and joining Dignitas.
I got the opportunity to sit down with Lyts to talk about his come up as a content creator, experience playing Fortnite, and his time with Dignitas as well as what the future holds in store for him.
So, how long have you been playing Fortnite?
Lyts: I’ve actually been playing since it first came out in Chapter 1. I played Save the World before Battle Royale, so I was probably nine years old at the time. I played on console, and didn't get a PC until around Stark Season. That's when I started uploading TikToks and stuff like that. Towards Chapter 4 is when I started to do YouTube, and that’s where things picked up.
What would you say your favorite part of the game is? What keeps you coming back to Fortnite?
Lyts: I’m just a very competitive person, and I feel like competing in tournaments, wanting to do my best, you know? Stuff like that, I just always loved competing.
Outside of Fortnite are there any other games that you enjoy playing?
Lyts: I used to play a lot of 2K and Madden. I haven’t played in a little bit though. I’ve mainly been focused on Fortnite. But in the past, I really loved playing 2K and Madden.
Shifting the focus towards content creation, how long have you been creating content? When did you know it was something that you wanted to pursue long-term?
Lyts: I think around four years ago I uploaded a couple of TikToks saying like “POV streamers can’t hang with the world’s best”. It was streamers’ POV of me killing them in-game, I just loved creating content for people like that. Then I started YouTube probably two or three years ago on my main account. Out of nowhere, it started to pick up with everyone showing a lot of support, and I just loved creating content for people. They were saying it was making their day, and they liked watching me while they were eating. That was just awesome to me, and where I got my motivation to post.
That’s awesome! I see the comments on your videos, and everyone seems to be rallying around you. It has a really good vibe. How does it feel to have a community that is a part of your life that you can create for?
Lyts: I mean it’s great, they show me nonstop support and they’re just awesome! I literally wouldn’t be here where I’m at now without them. They’re just awesome.
What’s your process like? How do your ideas and plans come together to make your videos?
Lyts: So, I have two ways, one, I just scroll through YouTube and try to find ideas. Another way I do it is I go onto another YouTube account with fresh recommendations. Say it’s something to do with baseball or basketball, it’ll have a video idea and then I try to transition that idea or topic into Fortnite.
How did your family and friends react to you gaining traction as a Content Creator?
Lyts: My family has been super supportive. They’ve been telling their co-workers and having their kids subscribe to me, it’s awesome. Of course, when I first started my YouTube channel, people were giving me flack IRL like, “Yeah, haha, you’re doing content,” because obviously they didn’t think I was going to be anywhere you know? I mean I’m not crazy big yet, but I’m kind of growing there. At first, they were like, “Yeah, just another kid doing YouTube, blahblahblah…” but now they’re supporting me now that I’ve grown a little bit.
What’s your favorite part about being a content creator?
Lyts: I would say, and this might sound cliché, but giving myself a purpose to play the game. I do like playing competitive, but I’m not like the greatest in the world, but obviously I have fun playing competitive because it’s good competition and I love doing all that. But being able to make a name for myself, while playing competitive to my community, I just love that.
Most pros play Fortnite competitively, but they don’t make content. They try their hardest to make their name just off playing competitively. But the fact that I can play competitive and make a name for myself with another scene, and have the younger generation strive to kind of be like me in a way is just awesome.
Are you doing this full-time?
Lyts: So right now, I’m still going to high school, this is my senior year. I’m going to go to community college for the first couple of years after, to see if I can balance the two. If I can’t, I’ll just take a gap year and focus on content. If it doesn’t work out in the long run, then I’ll obviously just continue college.
It all started when I got sick, I wasn’t able to go to school in person at the end of my sophomore year, and junior year. So, I was just home doing online school, and I had a lot of free time, so I started making a bunch of content. That’s sort of where it all started because I had that free time. Now obviously it’s kind of hard to balance the two. I would love to focus on content and not have to worry about school, but obviously it’s good to have that safety net in case it doesn’t work out, so I have something else to pursue.
Aside from content creation and Fortnite, do you have any hobbies that people might find interesting or surprising?
Lyts: I love watching sports, playing basketball and baseball. I’ve played baseball all my life, I’m a super sporty guy. I love sports more than anything. I’m from Boston, so I love all those teams. The Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots, but over the past four or five years, I’ve been watching the Phoenix Suns for basketball. My favorite player is Devin Booker on the Suns.
How has joining Dignitas as a content creator been for you? How has your experience been with the organization so far?
Lyts: It’s been very supportive, when I first joined, everyone was like “no way he joined!” because I didn’t tell anyone until I made an announcement tweet. Dignitas in general have been super supportive. If I have any questions regarding Fortnite, or anything else, they are there to help me. They are kind of like a family.
What’s your main goal you want to achieve as a content creator with Dignitas?
Lyts: I think right now we are trying to bring out a more casual content side of Dignitas. Since right now it’s like primarily a pro team, we want to be able to bring out that content aspect to the organization. It’s going to be awesome.
What do you look forward to the most as you start this next chapter as a content creator with Dignitas?
Lyts: I would say, growing a community for sure. But also, within the next few months, while obviously still doing Fortnite, I want to make another account for IRL content here and there. Show how I am in my life, I can travel around and make content videos. That’s kind of what my goal is, I want to transition to IRL, that’s kind of where I want to take things in the future after Fortnite.
