5 CT Positions to Give You an Advantage on Cache

Struggling to find that one position on Cache CT side? Then this guide is right for you.

Cache is considered to be one of the most balanced maps, but CT’s have a slightly higher winrate like most other maps. It also has a layout similar to most other maps, and the typical MOBA map if you’ve played those games before. With two bomb sites at opposite sides of the map, and a “middle” area in between, and lots of ways to rotate between sites and through middle.

In this guide, we will go over five positions for CT side shown on the map above. However, this does not mean that these five positions should always be played together. You can pair these positions with those of your own to create the ultimate defense, these are just to give you an idea on the map.

1 - “Quad”

Referred to as “quad” or “quad stack” by some people. The best thing about this position is that you have a clear look at both A main and squeaky, you can also fall back behind the box if there is a terrorist push high in numbers. When paired with another CT standing at position 2 on the map, or behind the truck, it provides a strong crossfire situation against an A main push as well.

Let’s say terrorists decided to push mid all together and they overwhelmed your mid player. You can still get a clear look at middle from this position and get a couple of kills if you have a weapon appropriate for long range battles, which you should have if you decide to hold this position.

However, like pretty much every other position, this position has its weaknesses. One is that the vision from this angle to A main is very likely to be blocked by a smoke, rendering it useless. The other con for this position is that it is too far away from B site, meaning it will take a long time to rotate to B if terrorists are there, but you can overcome this problem by placing two players at B, and the other two players somewhere close to B so that they can rotate faster.

2 - “Balcony”

This is another interesting position to hold at A site. The biggest difference compared to the previous one is that this one focuses more on squeaky control, while the previous one focused more on A main control. If terrorists are pushing from A main, you can easily take an advantageous position simply by going back toward the ladder and having a clear look at A main.

Everything comes with its disadvantages though. While this position is less likely to be blocked by a smoke, there is nowhere to quickly fall back to. You’re pretty wide open in this position. That means this is not the best position if you are the only CT player in A site. You will need a teammate in a safer position to hold your back and be ready for trade kills in case of such a situation.

3 - “Highway”

Third in the list is the position called “highway” or “catwalk”, it is the most crucial and versatile position in this list. If you decide to hold this position, you will be able to control mid and A site, both main and squeaky. You can also rotate to B site quickly from three different ways.

Sending a player to hold this position also gives your team some freedom for other areas. Such that, you can send one player here, controlling both mid and A site, have another player at A site, and stack B with three players. However, playing such a crucial position comes with its own responsibilities.

Since this position will give the strongest map presence out of all the position in this list, your map awareness should be top level, meaning that you must keep an eye on the minimap, watch for any terrorist movement and plan your rotations according to that. Also, if you have only one player on A site, you will be the safety valve for that player by not letting him get flanked from middle.

After all, if you can utilize this position to its maximum, you can singlehandedly win rounds. So my advice would be to send one player here pretty much every round, given that player has enough skill to play it successfully.

4 - “Checkers”

Yet another position where you will able to check two possible terrorist routes at once, vent and B halls. Even though your mid player should be the one looking for a vent push from middle, you will be the first one to encounter that push face to face, and until your mid player calls such a push, you can watch B halls with an appropriate gun.

One disadvantage of this position is that it is pretty weak against a B rush that frequently happens in public games. When terrorists directly rush B, your job will be very hard if you cannot get a kill or two when they first enter B halls. Because after that, they will be coming from both B main and into checkers, so there will be two streams of terrorists you should deal with. Your job at that point should be just getting at least one kill before dying.

On the other hand, the biggest advantage of this position is that you can easily attempt a flank from behind to A site if terrorists decide to go that way. Simply wait for the call from your teammates, and carefully flank to A site from T spawn area. Experienced players tend to leave at least one player checking behind, so don’t try to frantically b-hop your way to A site with your knife out. Check your corners!

5 - “B Main”

This position is the more aggressive version of the previous one. You won’t have that vent control, but you will have a higher presence at B main and if terrorists are coming from B halls, you can catch them off-guard with a successful pop flash.

The weakness, and also its strength detailed in the next paragraph, of this position is that it is in a pretty aggressive place. You can get overwhelmed by the high number of terrorists since there is no way to fall back without exposing yourself. At that scenario, your best bet is to get a trade kill and die comfortably.

However, the fact that this is an aggressive position also lies under its strength. Especially at lower ranks, and sometimes even higher ranks, this is not the first position terrorists check. So if you keep calm, you can let them pass by, and then enjoy some sneaky beaky action behind the clueless terrorists.

On a side note, the same flank procedure as the previous one applies to this position as well.

Alright, that was it for this guide. Thanks for reading, and I hope it was helpful to you. Feel free to send any feedback, that helps me a lot. Good luck and have fun!
