7 Features That Would Drastically Improve Hearthstone

7 wanted additions that would greatly improve the player experience for both competitive and casual players!

Hearthstone is a great game with many opportunities for growth and change. It would be awesome to see some of these changes implemented to the game to bring a fresh feel to the game rather than just waiting on expansions and adventures.

#7 - Alternative Game Modes/Custom Rules
Many other games have already implemented weekly game modes, or have let the community make them. I think it would be awesome if there was a special queue for an alternative game mode. Even better would be the ability to set custom rules to play with friends. “No Rares, Epics, or Legendaries” or “Whoever dies first wins” game modes are a few experiments I have tried with friends that have been exceptionally fun. As a team player, I would also love to see a 2v2 game mode. Not only does it give me a chance to pair up with a friend, it allows for new strategies and crazy combos that can lead to enjoyable and noteworthy moments. Plus, new game modes help keep the game fresh between card releases!

#6 – Match History/Statistics
Currently, the use of third party programs or using pen and paper is the only way to keep track of your win rates and match-ups. It would be awesome to have an in-client history that allows players to see what classes they are struggling against or what build of a particular deck is performing slightly better than another. It would also be cool to have information such as “longest game” or “highest damage done in one game” just to show off some accomplishments you’ve pulled off during your Hearthstone journey that aren’t the same as a screenshot. We, even Blizzard, likes to brag about what cool stuff we are doing. It would be nice to have more ways to do it!

#5 – Cross Region Play and Collections
I have several friends from EU that I’d love to be able to play with using our whole collections. It is expensive (or time consuming) enough to build up one complete collection on a Hearthstone account. It is also very annoying to have to switch servers and accounts. I think many pro players would also appreciate being able to playtest against other pros using their regular account and not having to own multiple accounts.

#4 – MORE Deck Slots
I think this has been on most player’s wishlist for a long time. Many people want to have all kinds of decks, some for competitive and others for fun. Currently, this is really hard to do without deleting and remaking decks. The addition of more deck slots would require a lot of interface work, but it is definitely able to be done well. I think it would look pretty good if you just had all the 9 Heroes pictures where the current slots are, and you click on them to bring a mini-menu up of all your decks for that class. This could also be translated to the mobile clients pretty easy, and would only add 1 or 2 taps to the deck creation and selection process. An added bonus to this feature would be the functionality to use a different card back with each deck.

#3 – More Friend Options/ Benefits
Currently, there is one incentive for interacting with your friends list, a quest which requires you to spectate a victory. Many of my friends are often curious about what deck I’m using to climb the ladder. It would be great to have a “list share” function to allow them to see the deck and copy it if they like it, rather than the current method of sending a screenshot via Facebook message. It would also be great to have a better chat UI. The current chat system is really clunky, and can be really annoying to use in-game for anything other than short messages. Offering incentives would also give players another reason to play with people on their friends list. Not only does this help foster friendships, it helps players grow their collections together.

#2 Revamped Ladder System/Ranking System
The ranked ladder of Hearthstone has its pros and cons. Overall, it’s challenging, fun, and does a good job of separating skill levels. Negatively, it is time consuming and does not offer rewards other than bragging rights. It would be very nice to have some cool rewards for doing well on the ranked ladder each season. Alternative art cards, special card animations, or other cosmetic features would be a really cool way to reward players for their ranked successes. Cosmetic features may seem like a lousy reward to some, but most players love being able to have extra swag. If you don’t believe this, go check out some CS:GO knife prices. Beauty comes at a high cost.

#1 – In-Client Official Tournaments
This is the biggest feature I want implemented to Hearthstone. There are many third party organizations that hold weekly tournaments, but their organization and prizes are often not super great. It would be awesome to know that at a certain time each week, I could just log onto Hearthstone and play some really competitive matches for the chance at prizes. I personally wouldn’t even mind gold entry fees or reservation fees. Having another way to compete in a “pro style (Conquest)” would be very enjoyable for me. It also adds another level of complexity over the ranked ladder. This feature would also be great for building rivalries between the top players and competitions between friends.

Are there any features you’d like to see in the game? Let me know in the comments below! -Yusnaan
