ADCs Around the Rift: How to Successfully Set-Up a Composition with More Than One ADC

Learn the keys to succeed at playing with more than one ADC in your team.

After the Marksman rework happened at the early stage of this season, the AD Carry shuffled out of the bot lane. We started to see things such as Corki in the mid lane, Graves in the jungle and even Lucian in the top lane, as played by Vitality’s Cabochard. Even if the majority of these picks got quickly nerfed or a counter was found for them, some of them are still pretty viable in the meta. In this article, I'll teach you the basics to execute this great strategy.

AD Carries to Choose

As the title says, we're looking to build a favorable set-up to play more than one ADC. We'll be talking briefly about each role's picks before talking about our plans in the draft phase:

Top lane: Initially, the AD carries shuffled to the top lane. We specifically saw Quinn and Graves. Quinn got quickly nerfed because of her incredible burst and mobility, and also surely because of Heo "Huni" Seung-hoon's performance in the first weeks of the LCS. Talking about Graves, he's still viable in the top lane, but he does not have the same potential as before, especially after the Grasp of the Undying nerfs. I would avoid playing him in the top lane.

Jungle: This year's meta has surprised us regarding the jungle's god tier. The most influential picks are, in fact, two AD carries: Kindred and Graves. Even if Kindred needs way more skill than Graves, they both are awesome at the same things.

Middle lane: When the changes were introduced, mid lane was a clownfiesta for the assassins. Almost every ADC was played there, and getting fed as Zed or LeBlanc was easy as killing the Rift Scuttler. Luckily, only one AD carry has held its position in the middle: Corki. A few months ago, a hard counter was found for him (Nautilus), but since it has been nerfed, Corki is free to be played again. Before someone says anything, Varus isn't played as an attack damage carry in the mid lane, but as a poke mage.

Bottom lane: Welcome to the "almost every ADC is viable" meta. Among the strong champions, you have Lucian, Ezreal, Sivir, Kalista, Jhin, and others.

Draft Phase and Strategies

When drafting, we'll have to pick champs looking at the comp we actually want to play. I'll show you some functional compositions with more than one ADC:

-ROX Tigers' Scaling Poke ADC's Comp: ROX Tigers has been one of the most aggressive teams in the entire world. That means they always play looking to siege objectives, and with that, they have used a common ADC combo in this LCK Spring's split. This comp is based in two core picks: Corki in the mid lane and Ezreal in the bot lane. After that, every other pick is a player's comfort pick. For example, ROX Tigers picks a usual fighting champ in the top lane, Graves in the jungle, and one of Kang "GorillA" Beom-hyeon's comfort picks, like Alistar, for support.

- Vanilla Graves/ADC Comp: This one is simple. It just requires Graves in the jungle, a strong teamfighting ADC in the bot lane, and some peel/engage for them. As an example, SKT's comp from LCK Spring Finals Game 2.

- Sivir Engage Comp: Similar to the last one, but this time using Sivir, Kindred and a team based on engaging teamfights. As an example, Maokai/Kindred/Lissandra/Sivir/Alistar.

-Juggermaw: Ah, the good ol' Juggermaw. Even if it isn't being used as much as before because the ADCs that are being played don't need that much peel, this comp works awesomely with Graves in the top lane. He works an an awesome frontline fighter. The best Juggermaw comp I can think about is Graves/Gragas/Lulu/Kog'Maw/Braum.

Now that we have chosen the composition we want to play, it's time to enter in the draft phase. Depending on your side, you'll have different plans:

- Blue side: Graves should be prioritized as first pick. Next, depending on the comp you're playing, you'll surely want to secure your support/top laner or Corki/Ezreal, if you're playing the first composition. This one is important, since, if for example, the enemy picks a Braum into your Ezreal, you'll get countered in lane. In the next rotation, just pick the remaining pieces of your comp.

- Red side: Since you'll surely lose the Graves/Kindred pick, you have to focus on denying good picks to the rival while you pick what you need for your comp. For example, if the enemy first picks Kindred and you're looking to play a Juggermaw comp, you should prioritize Braum and Graves. On your next rotation, you should focus on your carry/top laner if you didn't pick one of them on the first rotation. On the red side, mid lane should always be used for the last pick.

Mentality while playing

Clearly, as an ADC, you have objective: you must try to scale and be ahead of your enemy as early as possible. That means that laning phase is essential when playing with an ADC. Even if not every ADC needs an expensive item (for example, Corki’s Trinity Force rush), getting to your power spike quickly is one of your keys to having a good game.

After the laning phase, your to-do list should just have one sentence: push. Still, you will be grouping up with your team for teamfights and setting-up objectives like Baron or Dragon. In the majority of the comps I explained, there will be standard 2v2 lanes, but you can try to force a laneswap to execute a 1-1-3 with the jungler's help. This kind of strategy focuses on towers and, specially, Herald/Dragon (depending on the side of the map you're playing). If you're playing with an engage comp, your objective is to also look for objectives, but to do it after winning fights.

Counters

There's not a universal counter to these compositions, but there's a general counter to the ADC compositions: hard engage. Teams with champions like Zac, Leona or Malphite destroy comps made of AD carries. However, you can try to find a counter to every kind of comp I showed you. For example, poke is also countered by hard engage, and engaging comps are countered by a great disengage.

If you're really searching for a comp that practically counters this entire style of comp, there's actually one counter: a full tank comp with Rammus, Malphite and Naut combined with the mid laner and ADC that you want.

Conclusion

Playing a comp with two ADCs is something normal in the actual meta, since one of the junglers is normally an ADC. But instead of just playing the game without thinking about it, try to focus around the fact that you have more than one ADC. It's worth it, since these comps work great.
