Best Duo Queue Role Combinations To Carry

In this post, we discuss the best role combinations for duo queueing.
Ranked can be incredibly tedious and stressful. Because of this, a lot of players tend to duo queue for a variety of reasons but namely to ensure that at least one of the other four players are reliable and to have someone carry a game with you. That being said, certain duo queue roles are better than others. In this post, we'll be discussing the best duo queue roles to effectively carry games.
1. Jungle + Middle lane.
Jungle + Middle lane is one of the strongest duo queue combinations. Middle lane is a lane that tends to snowball into one player's favor incredibly quickly, especially if pressure is applied. Junglers can camp for their mid lane and then take down the turret, opening up the map. The mid laner is also a laner that tends to roam a lot, though that's partially dependent on their champion pick. The mid laner can roam with the jungler all over the map, killing people in the enemy's jungle or even setting up 3 man ganks in top lane or 4 man ganks in bottom lane. If the mid laner has a large lead on the enemy laner, a jungler has free reign over the enemy jungle as well since your laner can follow you up on the plays you do without any struggle, especially if he has the enemy laner pushed back to their turret.
2. AD Carry + Support.
AD Carry + Support is the go to example of a good duo queue combination. When a lot of people think duo queue, they tend to think duo bottom. Communication on what you do in bottom lane is critical and, because of this, this combination is incredibly potent in the hands of skilled players. The idea behind this is to outplay the enemy laners by taking advantage of the communication your duo has (e.g. traps, baits, CC). Currently, I feel like this duo queue combination isn't quite as good as it used to be mainly due to the weakness of AD carry as a role as of 5.7 but it's still decent.
3. Middle lane + Support.
Middle lane + Support is a fairly powerful combination, though it's more dependent on the champion that the support picks. Generally, if the support is playing someone who has the capability to make picks, then this combination works out very effectively. An example of this would be if the support were to play someone like Morgana or Thresh. The idea behind this is to catch someone out with vision control provided by the support, as well as the CC provided by the support, and then killing them quickly with the sheer amount of damage that the mid laner provides. This works incredibly well, especially in lower elo, and can get a mid laner fed effectively.
4. Jungle + Support.
This combination is the "Dandy + Mata" from the late Samsung White. Dandy and Mata were reknown for their ability to completely take over a game with the ganks they could set up through vision control. Mainly because of this and individual skill, they led Samsung White to a World Championship victory in 2014. To set up ganks and to effectively apply pressure, a jungler needs vision control. In this duo queue combination, the support helps the jungler by maintaining deep wards in the enemy jungle to track the movements of the enemy jungler. In addition, the jungler and support maintain control of vision by keeping pathways clear so the jungler can gank other lanes. The support can also come join in on the ganks, resulting in 3 man ganks. This combination tends to apply a LOT of pressure on the map though at the expense of the AD carry unless the pressure is being applied bottom lane.
5. Jungle + Top Lane.
The idea behind this combination is to snowball the top lane into your favor and then ignore the lane for the rest of the game, allowing the top laner to establish their dominance in the lane with the early pressure that you applied. This allows you to effectively ignore one side of the map and pressure the rest of the map. In addition, since it's common for top laners to have teleport as a summoner spell, this gives you the ability to have powerful presence on the map as a duo. For example, you can force a dragon fight and have the top laner teleport down. Or you can force a gank bottom lane and have the top laner teleport down, forcing a 4 man gank instead. You also can get away with messing with the enemy jungler on their top side jungle if your top laner is incredibly ahead. This combination is best if the top laner can handle a 1v1 lane easily with a lead.
For the most part, the best duo queue combinations tend to involve either the jungler or the support due to the pressure that they can apply with their vision control and roaming. At the end of the day though, these are all just suggestions on what I personally believe are the best duo queue combinations. If you want to duo queue and want to play AD + Mid, by all means, go ahead. This list is just to talk about the lanes that have the best synergy in a duo queue environment. Thanks for reading!
