Blade & Soul Class Overview

With the release of Blade & Soul coming to North America finally, most people are trying to get into the game but don’t know what class to pick out of the 7 choices. As a new player you might feel a little bit overwhelmed becausae Blade & Soul doesn't have some of the traditonal roles (for example, there are no party healers), so we decided to help out the new population of Blade & Soul fans. Well here at Team-Dignitas we decided to give a brief overview of each class including a video!

Destroyer:

Destroyers are the most durable class in the game with the highest HP pool out of all classes. They are relatively easy to use with the strongest crowd control abilities out of any class. They can also control bosses for up to 6 seconds. Destroyers also have high sustained damage output throughout PVE while being bursty in PVP. All of their DPS comes from animation cancels which can be slightly difficult for the first couple of levels. They also of a very key move called “whirlwind” which provides them immunity to daze, stun, and knockback while increasing movement speed, defense, and parry depending on the amount of skill points used on this ability. This class can only be played as the Gon race.

Difficulty - 2.5/5

Assassin:

Assassins are all about misdirection with stealth and tons of movement abilities. This makes them one of the best classes for PVP with all the mind games that can be done. They have extremely strong emphasis on DoTs and debuffs, can destroy it’s enemies over time. Assassins also have the ability to protect party members from ranged attacks & pull them out of danger whenever they wish. Unfortunately, assassins are fairly squishy & and are usually labeled as one of the hardest classes in the game after KungFu Master. This is usually because of their lack in cc for their large burst and dot damage, leaving their PVE not as fantastic as the other classes.

Difficulty - 4/5

KungFu Master:

KungFu Masters are usually looked as the “tanks” of parties. They have tons of skills to keep aggro when going against the strongest bosses. They have really high defensives with their parry/counter abilities. KungFu Masters can also protect their entire party with an ice shield if skilled. However, KungFu Masters are known as the hardest class in the game. With their block being one second and only being able to block from the front, timing and learning the class is needed (especially in PVP). KungFu Masters also significantly lack AOE abilties for the most part and are usually full on single target DPS.

Difficulty: 4.5/5

Force Master:

Force Masters are the long range caster class similar to most mages in other mmos. They have high sustained damage with lots of roots & slows. They have the ability to kite and live for long periods of times with many immunity & defensive skills that affect the entire party. Most people call this class the "Goku" class due to how many references to the anime Dragonball Z this class has. One of their abilities is literally a spirit bomb which is amazing! As you would expect, they are extremely squishy & are really difficult to use in PVP.

Difficulty - 3.5/5

Blade Master:

Blade Masters are the Jack of all trades, master of none class. With extremely powerful defense thanks to their large quantity of evades & blocks, Blade Masters can also tank fairly well. They have high overall damage output (can be very bursty) and can protect their party from all attacks if skilled into. Unfortunately, they have no party buffs & can only block attacks coming from the front with most of their damage coming from their stationary lightning AoE. This class is usually what most people start with due to it not needing that much of a skill cap compared to Assassin/KungFu Master.

Difficulty - 3.5/5

Summoner:

Summoners are by far the easiest class in the game with a unique concept. They are assisted by a cat which can tank fairly well & revive allies. This class is extremely durable due to their cat & self healing abilities. Their main damage comes from DoTs, debuffs & party buffs. Summoners also have stealth + dodges in their kit making them safe and a little bit of a hassle to catch in PVP. However, they are vulerable when the cat is crowd contrl or dead (mainly in PVP). They have one of the slowest attack speeds in the game and paired with sometimes unreliable AI from their cat summon. The cat also takes a small time to resummon/heal. This class is a Lyn exclusive.

Difficulty - 2/5

Blade Dancer:

Lyn Blade Dancers are mainly blade masters for lyn with the same skill set with some differences. The main differences are that Blade Dancers have lower health, defense and block compared to normal Blade Masters but much higher crit and evasion compared to normal Blade Masters. Blade Dancers also have alot more AoE & crowd control in their kits but overall damage is slightly lower. They have to mainly use their spin skill “Pinwheel” for defense unlike Blade Masters usual block. Overall, this class is a slightly easier version of Blade Master. This class is a lyn exclusive.

Difficulty - 2.5/5

Conclusion:

In conclusion, Blade & Soul has a vast quanity of classes that are very unique compared to other mmos. With it's fast combat system, difficulty & learning curves are a major thing in this game. Personally, I would suggest you go for a class that is around 3/5 or lower in terms of difficulty before you go for something with a major skill cap like KungFu Master. This will prevent you from struggling as you learn the game and give you the opportunity to enjoy the game.
