When dealing with a slump in CSGO or frustration with lousy teammates, or a losing streak, players need something to do to unwind. For some gamers, they play casual matches. Others hit the reset button and play another game. However, there are those who surf in CSGO. Now, how do you surf in CSGO when there are no ocean waves? Well, you don’t surf on water; instead, you use any ramp or sloped surface to surf.
Surfing in CSGO isn’t something you’re required to learn to be a pro. However, surfing teaches us that it’s all right to have fun in the game. Some players have said they use surfing as a warm up exercise to loosen up fingers. Others say it could help in aiming while moving or in practicing bunny hops. At any rate, you’re reading this because something sparks an interest, right? Don’t stop now. Keep riding the wave.

How to Surf
Surfing is doable on sloped surfaces. Finding those types of surfaces in normal maps is hard. Fortunately, there are many surfing maps in the Steam Workshop that anyone can download and utilize. Otherwise, you can find a community server using a surf map.
While on the sloped surface, you’ll want to stay on it rather than slide off. To avoid slipping off, move to the right when on the left side, and move to the left when on the right. Make sure to go to the top of the sloped surface you’re on. Doing nothing and looking down makes the character slide off the surface. A technique to gain speed while surfing is to start at the top of the ramp and slide down to the edge. On the edge, point the crosshair back for a good jump. What if there’s another ramp? It depends on where you want to go. To go left, turn left and move right. To go right, turn right and move left.
Practice, Practice, Practice
There are many player-created maps dedicated to surfing. Some of those are dedicated to either of the two modes of surfing (Surf Skill/Skill Surf and Surf Combat). Surf Skill maps usually have timers players use to compare with each other, while Surf Combat maps work like normal maps. The difference is that the layout looks like a playground for CSGO surfers. Check out this short youtube tutorial and a look at some of the servers or maps.
There aren’t many opportunities to surf in competitive mode. However, the practice for aiming and bunny hopping is invaluable. By surfing, you learn why it’s important to point the crosshairs properly. Bunny hopping is a cool skill to practice, as mentioned in the previous article. Then again, nobody can tell anyone how to enjoy a game because we all have preferences.
Please note that some of the practice servers have different air acceleration settings, which affects the difficulty of surfing. Also, it’s an indirect way to gather CSGO Skins, somewhat. Getting better at surfing allows you to improve in bunny hopping that could result in more victories. Although winning or losing doesn’t affect drops, it becomes less of a chore when you’re enjoying CSGO.
