Dust 2 tips: 4 smokes to use in matchmaking!

Dust 2 is a map in the active duty map pool for counter strike and is played proffesionally in the vast majority of tournaments.

Dust 2 is one of the more common maps in CSGO and has been played competitively throughout the history of counter strike. It is played very commonly in MM at all levels and is a simple map to introduce yourself to CSGO. Here's a match played on Dust 2 between Team EnVyUs vs Fnatic. This was at the most recent major event by ESL and shows a good example of smokes and a great comeback on the match by Fnatic.

Okay to start off. Here is the map of Dust 2, I will refer to these positions when describing the images of the smokes. Callouts are important to use in matchmaking so you can successfully describe where people are on the map. To practice smokes in an offline match with bots, enable the developer console in game settings. Open it with the "`" key.

This will give you 60 minutes a round to practise the smokes.

And these will give you smokes and unlimted ammo.

First smoke, Long A to Short/Cat

The first smoke is from long A to cat, or as some people call it, short. You will want to walk up to long with your smoke just before pit (seen in the first picture below) then move your mouse so you are aiming in the sky at these wires (seen in the second picture below). Place your crosshair to where mine is and the left click once so you do the normal big throw. As you can see in the third picture below, the smoke has successfully landed at short. This smoke is used to stop the terrorist players from rushing from cat onto A site which can catch you off guard easily as a CT. This way they will be forced to push through the smoke if they are to attempt a rush, which is very common for terrorist players to do on a force buy round with the Tec-9 pistol.

Smoke #2 Long A to Catwalk

This smoke is used to block out the people going through these doors which is a common sport for an AWP player to peak, This way you can make your way to pit safely without being caught by the player from doors, playing pit can be useful as you can setup a nice crossfire setup with another one of your team mates playing from site. This smoke is very simple. First just climb on to the boxes below short and just aim up next to the small ledge peaking out and right click once for the standard throw. As you can see in the second picture it has successfully landed at the doors smoking them off so that no one can peak through them.

Smoke #3 Outside CT to Long doors.

This smoke will cut off any counter terrorist players playing from that position aiming at long. This is useful for when you are doing an A split strategy to A site, this will mean it will be more safe for the long players to push whilst you can still push onto site. To do the smoke first go to short at walk to the boxes in the right corner. From there aim to the bottom right corner of the rug (see in the first pictured) and click once. This will smoke off CT. As you can see in picture 2 it has been done perfectly so no one can see through.

Smoke #4, Outside long to Xbox.

Smoking off xbox allows you to push up short without the counter terrorist players seeing you push through as the smoke will blind them from it, It is common for an AWP Player from the counter terrorists to play the mid position aiming down doors to short, this smoke will block them off so they will be forced to change their position and you can the play the mid to cat safely. This means you can easily gain cat control for your team which can be very powerful when going to push to A whether it be an A rush or an A split. This will help to get through. To do the smoke simply go outside of Long and climb onto the top box next to the car. Once you are on the top go to the very left of the wall and aim at the wires so it looks as if they are almost touching each other. Then click once and it will go to xbox.

Thanks for reading my guide to smokes on Dust 2. I hope these smokes can help in your competitive play.
