The return of the Desert Eagle

The Desert Eagle is back, baby!

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... The Desert Eagle was the pistol of choice. When aim was the game, the Deagle shined in the spotlight. Surprisingly, it was the pistol that everybody bought in Source and 1.6, you wouldn't go a game without buying a Deagle at least once. In 1.6 the pistol had high accuracy and not much recoil, it was also the only pistol that could one hit headshot through armour. If you could aim, that gun would be in your hands straight away. It's a similar story with Source, the Deagle was a beast of a weapon taking out enemies with one swift click of the mouse. A way to compare the Source Deagle to Global Offensive is if you take a look at the Tec-9 and then make it sound better, look cooler and be much bigger. That would be the Source Deagle, high accuracy and high damage for a cheap price. An insane pistol in Source too because of the high accuracy. When moving you could stutter step and run at people while picking off people in a short amount of time. At one point in time the Global Offensive Deagle was almost a copy-paste of the Source one, this was during beta, however, and times have changed. The Deagle was nerfed and hardly touched since the big nerf before the release.

Stats taken from the Counter-Strike Wikia

Something funny however, is the fact that the Global Offensive Desert Eagle has a higher damage rate than the previous two installations of the game but seems to be under-used. My theory behind this is because of the high recoil and high recoil reset time, the pistol is not picked up by many people and for a while the Five-Seven and Tec-9 were the rulers of the pistol Kingdom. It takes a lot of skill to use the Deagle in Global Offensive mainly because of the recoil reset time being a deterrent to newer players and even professional players. Something else to mention is that Valve updated the hit boxes in the game, making accuracy a lot more reliable and when aiming at a head, you're actually going to hit the head making the Deagle a viable weapon again. Recoil reset is basically how long it takes for the weapon's bullet to hit in the middle off your crosshair again. Once you shoot there is an invisible timer before the gun can be fired accurately again. With the Desert Eagle it is very high compared to the Tec-9 which is a low time. Only 3 bullets out of 26 on the Desert Eagle[1] hit the centre of the crosshair whereas with the Tec-9 17/26 hit the centre.[2]

Surprisingly, after all that guff the pistol now seems to be back in use. The most recent major, Cluj-Napoca saw the return of the fabled hand cannon. If you take a look at the statistics 3% of kills this major were kills made with the Deagle.[3] This percentage is higher than the Five-Seven and the same percentage as the Tec-9 and Glock-18! Now, 3% may not sound like much but it's a lot when compared with the rest of the year. This year alone the Desert Eagle has been used for less than 2% of kills which is an insanely low percentage when compared with this major alone.[4]

Shortly after the Major ended our then player Philip "aizy" Aistrup showed off his skill against "Virtus.pro" when he used the Deagle on an eco and completely obliterated the opposition! You can see that video below.

What do you think? Is the Deagle finally making a comeback after all these years or was it just a fluke at this major. Do you like using the Deagle and if so show me in the comments, I would love to see some sick clips! Thanks for reading!
