How to Take A Site on Inferno

When you need to take A site but don't just wanna get shut down, you'll be needing this guide!

Inferno is a complicated map for smokes, and even at the highest levels, a lot of players have a hard time executing smokes or even basic strategies for taking certain sites. Taking A site on Inferno is pretty difficult due to the fact that there are numerous different ways for the CT’s to shut you down. In this guide I’m going to show you an effective method to get the bomb down by creating a small wall of smoke and smoking archway side mid. It will only take 3 players to do these smokes, so make sure that you all learn these.

This is probably the easiest of them all due to it’s easy alignment. You’re going to want to have mid control before you do this, so if the AWPer is playing aggressively mid, you'll want to remove him with either a flash, Molotov, or a nade that will buy you time during the lineup for this smoke. From the image below, you can see that you first want to push yourself up into the barrels corner as shown.

After that, you need to find the chimney which is highlighted in the second image. You want to lineup your crosshair towards that, and look upwards until you’re in between the two parts of the clocktower which are also highlighted in purple on the image. Once you’re there in between, just throw. That will lead to a smoke grenade choking off left side and the AWPer will be forced to retreat to either graveyard, pit or library, and with the following smokes, he won’t be able to get you from any of these spots.

Then, the more complicated smokes come in. You want to be able to smoke off pit so the AWPer who may have backed off in that direction can’t pick you off. So someone else is going to need a smoke for this, and they’re going to follow the crosshair placement of the images below. To get to this location, you’re going to want to get to the far left shadow of the vines and stand on that, hugging the wall as much as you can. This can be a risky throw, so make sure that someone else is watching you on mid in case someone decides to be a little bit more aggressive on the CT side of things.

After that, you’re going to want to look up from the top left corner side of the second from the right pillar, and line it up until it hits the edge of the roof just below the chimney. Once you’re done that, there’s nothing special after, just throw. This will end up choking off the player who’s playing pit, which will stop any player who rotated from mid from having much effect without any seriously risky plays. Just be careful of the truck when pushing out of this location, it's the one spot which can catch you off guard. In particular, the little gap in between the wall and the truck on the right side is dangerous. Just clear it when pushing out and you should be perfectly fine to keep going!

While the image above does make you think “can’t they see me from graveyard?” you’d be wrong. The next smoke that is about to be thrown will give you a nice safe plant in smoke that's in an easy to defend position and will also stop any players from graveyard or on site from getting you. This will mean the only place you’re going to have to seriously check during this strategy is the gap between truck and pit. One place instead of over ten different ones. First, you need to go into the corner of the potted plant as the image below shows. Wedge yourself into it like you would with the barrel in mid for the archway smoke. This is the easiest part and also probably the safest smoke to do, since it’s in second mid where your only threat is from an unlikely push on balcony.

After this, you’re going to want to find the antenna on the roof once you turn around. Depending on your graphics settings this can be easy or hard to see due to the sun's intense lens flare. You can still see through it, but you’re probably going to have to squint. Luckily it’s the safest position out of all of the smokes, so you’ve got a short while to set yourself up if co-ordinating correctly! The images above will show you how to lineup your crosshair. All you have to do is look at the right side of the antenna, and up a little bit, doesn’t really matter how much as long as it’s reasonable.

After that, you just want to throw! It’s that easy. These will leave a small wall of smoke in place while you clear truck and take care of apartments, giving you an easy plant with good communication and teamwork. It’s great to make sure that you are secure when planting, and it’s highly unlikely that anyone who is on the site or in pit is going to be able to get you, as your plant position has about 90% of non-penetrable cover in addition to the smoke grenade covering you while you plant.

Remember when doing this that some people aren’t careful, and WILL push through the smoke if you do this enough or if you aren’t careful. Just be on the lookout for this when executing this strategy. There’s nothing stopping you from using these smokes in solo queue too! If you need to help your team push up onto A site, it’s good to know some of these smokes and to perfect them so everyone can push out easier. Whilst it’s more effective on a team (like anything you do on Counter-Strike), you will find a lot of benefit out of practicing these for your own solo queue play.

Thanks for reading this guide, I hope this has helped you and your team in some way and that you can put these to use. If you want to see any other sites covered for simple or in depth smoke strategies, just suggest some in the comments!
