Must Know Positions to Defend A Bomb Plants
The C4 explosive is arguably the most important tool in the game.
The C4 explosive is arguably the most important tool in the game.
On the terrorist side of any map the bomb (also known as the C4) can make or break a strategy and in turn it can change the outcome of a round or even the whole game. The C4 is arguably the most important tool in the game and the decisions that you make with the C4 can decide who wins the game.
Economic plants
In the first section of the guide I will explain how you can use a bomb plant to your advantage if your team loses the first round of the terrorist side or you are forced into an eco scenario by the CT side. One of the most beneficial choices to make is to attempt to get a bomb plant and allow your team to buy again in the next round. The use of smokes and flashes is important and can be used to simply allow one member of your team to run into a site and plant the bomb. This is a great economic choices as it will give each member of your team an extra $800 and an additional $300 for the player who plants the bomb, meaning that most times you will be able to full buy in the following round. One of the easiest eco round bomb plants to pull off is on A site Mirage where with one simple smoke and a few flash bangs, you should be able to get a plant.
To pull this off you will need to do the following smoke. The smoke will land in the middle of the site cutting it in half between the boxes. While throwing the smoke you will need to jump after aiming at the spot shown in the picture below and several smokes thrown over the wall while entering the site can help to distract and blind the CT players.
Left: location to aim for smoke. Right: location where the smoke will land on site
Location specific plants
Sometimes using a specific bomb plant can greatly help your team, you will be able to hold the bomb from a further away location and give yourself a huge advantage in winning the round. The picture on the left will show you the location in which you should plant the bomb and the picture on the right will show you the best location to hold from in order to refuse the defuse. There are many more plants than the ones shown below, but I will only be showing one on each map on the competitive rotation.
The T player should hold from pit on long to give a good sight of the CT player defusing
The T player should hold from the ramp entrance to the A site
The player should hold from the ‘pop dog’ or ladder location to watch the bomb
The player should hold from boiler or short to get the best vision on the defusal
The player needs to hold from mid or long to have a good sight on the bomb
The player will need to hold from A short to view the bomb, you can use the toilets to hide
This plant allows the bomb to be held from several locations, mid, car and around forklift.
These bomb plants are very useful and there are many more to use, but I feel that these are the most useful on each map. However, most of these bomb plant locations are long range and susceptible to ninja defuses or failed attempts, you must be careful of these while holding. While holding you must also careful of rotating players as most of these plants will need to be held from locations where you may find a player making a move. These locations are also situation based and you may want to be careful when using these plants, which takes me onto the next section of this guide.
Situational plants
CSGO is a very situational game. The simplest change can affect the outcome of the round or even the game in the end. Hitting that one headshot could give you a site and planting the bomb a second earlier could win you the game. Bomb plants are also affected not only by where but also when they are planted. This section of the guide should give an insight into when and when not to plant the bomb.
- Taking a site:
When you are executing a site, your first objective should always be to get entries and clear the bombsite. There is no point in attempting to plant the C4 immediately, since it will make you a sitting duck on the site. You must first make sure that there are no enemy players around. The bomb should be taken into the site and not left behind, but it should only be the first thing on your mind if you are attempting to get a quick plant in order to leave a site and hold or to get an eco plant.
- Clutching:
The second situation is when you are attempting to clutch a round. When planted, the bomb is almost like having a second player with you in a clutch situation. While it may not be able to shoot the enemies or tell you where they are, it gives you an objective, and it gives the other team a second thing to think about. The enemy players will be taking into account the time on the bomb and this can cause panic, as they will be pressured into defusing the bomb, allowing you to get the jump on a player. But be aware of fake defusals. It’s not always smart to plant in a clutch situation, however. Sometimes it is worth attempting to take down a player before planting the bomb making it a 1v1, and a fake plant may help with this.
- Late round:
The final situation is if you are reaching the later stages of the round, you must be thinking about when the bomb will be planted. If the bomb is not planted when the round timer ends then you are giving a free round to the enemy team. If you are reaching the final 20 seconds or so of the round you should never change your mind about the site that you are taking. A bomb plant takes 3 seconds to go through, so if you leave it too late you will not get the plant. However, sometimes this is a viable situation. One strategy you can use is to create a fake. A fake is where several members of the team will throw grenades and in some cases enter a site, while the remaining members of the team will enter the other site after waiting for the CT players to leave. This means that you will get a free plant in the late round and in some cases win as it is easier to hold against the players entering the site when they first must rotate.
