Overpass has hosted a plethora of boosts since its inception, this guide shows how to execute them.
Overpass has been home to a large number of famous pro matches, the most notable one being the "boostmeister" game. In this game, the final map of the quarterfinals of Dreamhack Winter 2014, a struggling Fnatic side was on its final legs, down 13-3 against an ldlc team that was completely dominating the game. That is until Olof "olofmeister" Kajbjer boosted up with a game changing play. This boost provided the Swedish team the frags necessary in order to mount an enormous comeback.
Now, in the end, the boost was deemed illegal by tournament admins (as it abused a disappearing texture glitch) and fnatic chose to forfeit from the major but this boost proves the usefulness of boosting and how being in an unexpected position can change the entire outcome of a match. This articles serves to show you the multitude of different ways you can change the way you play on de_overpass, whether you are in matchmaking or a real event.
A SITE
Overpass's A site is pretty close quarters, an area where the T-side AK47 can rip the CT side M4 to shreds. In order to mitigate this advantage, there are a couple boosts one can perform. One of these boosts is outlined on the top left image by Lincoln "fnx" Lau of Luminosity gaming. This boost allows you to see nearly the entirety of middle from an unexpected angle where only the tip of your head is showing. In order to perform this boost you must stand on top of your team mates head on the bench in middle (see image top right).
One other useful boost that you can use on Overpass's A site is illustrated in the bottom image above. This boost allows you to see the push onto A site from a relatively safe position, so you can execute it very swiftly and easily. You only need one teammate to sit in front of the road sign on the site, and it gives you this powerful position.
B SITE
Overpass's B site is open to fast early aggression, which can make boosting a very risky move. However, if you are able to execute these boosts effectively, you may be able to end a B push before it even begins. One major area necessary to control B site is water, this following boost will allow anyone to see over the wall separating site and water (see top right image). This area gives you complete sight into water and connector. You can boost up here by using the sandbags near the wooden wall on the site, like in the top right image. This can shut down a B play completely as well as inform your teammates of any rotation opportunities if a B play is going to be executed. A word of caution however, those thin wood walls are akin to papier-mâché. Bullets can easily hit you and your teammate if you reveal your position at an inopportune time, which may lead to both you and your friend losing some health or even dying to a lucky, spamming opponent.
One final boost on the B site is one that is perfect for a retake scenario or merely to catch your opponent offguard. It allows you to see the entire site from the (relative) safety of a cement wall. The boost is showcased in the bottom left image. This leaves you with complete access to the site, while only offering your offguard opposition to see a few pixels of your head at best. You can perform this boost by standing on your friends head on the wooden stack underneath heaven, as shown in the bottom right picture. Unlike the last boost, you will not be able to get spammed through the wall, and the only way to easily take you down is a push by the T-side to your position, which will give you the advantage as defending is far easier in CS than attacking.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Overpass is a map that has the ability to showcase one's tactical and creative mind, and plays such as the ones I've showcased are capable of turning the tides in a match. If you find yourself down on the CT side of Overpass, perhaps try out these boosts, maybe you can become your team's savior, and grasp the triumph of victory.
