Keybinds: Make your LoL setup more efficient

Get an edge on your opponents before the game even starts.

Keybindings are some of the most important and controversial topics in League of Legends. Everyone seems to have their own idea of what is optimal but as someone who has gone through many different setups, I’m going to share with you what I have learned to be the best.

Finger Placement

First let's start off with the most basic part of keybindings, finger placement. I place my fingers on W, A, D and shift. Placing your fingers on Q, W, E and R, is another common strategy, although I feel the setup is definitely inferior. Reason being, having your hand on those keys makes reaching for shift and ctrl awkward, which is bad for reasons I’ll be going into later.

Items

This section is pretty much up to preference. I personally use 2, 3 and z, x, c and my side mouse button for the trinket. I feel that these are the easiest reaches, but many other people have different opinions of this, so I feel it’s up to what you are most comfortable with.

Attack Move

Now this is the one I feel is most important. Binding your attack move to left click is a must, especially for ADC mains. Reason being is attack move is a key that is essential for kiting. Every other setup has the bind on multiple key presses like shift + right click and a + left click. Binding attack move to just left click cuts down on the amount of key presses making the action easier to perform as well as making your reaction faster. In League of Legends you cannot bind actions to left click but you can change it through the games configuration file. This post on reddit has all the information on how to do so.

Abilities

When it comes to casting abilities, I have as standard of a setup as they come. It’s worth mentioning that after you get a hang of a champion, I feel you should smartcast every single ability because again, it leads to you having quicker reactions and can very well be the difference between life and death.

Self cast/Ability Level

Self cast is not entirely necessary for every champ, but for many, it is essential. Leveling abilities quickly is important for every champion and can mean a kill, or a lost opportunity. These two are interchangeable, putting them on shift, alt or ctrl + your desired ability allows you to use both very quickly.

Attack Champion Only

Usually bound to tilde (~), this bind is way too important to be on such an awkward key. This key allows you to easily attack your intended target even with minions and the tower in your way. I recommend binding it to space and binding your lock camera button to something else.

That’s my opinion on the most efficient keybinding setup. If you are someone who has usually just stuck with the normal keys, give this a try. It will seem awkward at first but trust me after some time, you’ll fall in love with it.
