Exploring Smite’s New Rituals

Analyzing the new class of consumables in Smite.

Rituals are a brand-new set of items added to Smite in Season 4. They are a collection of four consumables that are very powerful, but have a high cost. Each Ritual is a 750-gold single-use item. Players can only hold a single copy of a Ritual at a time. The effects of these consumables are similar to Relics removed from Smite in Season 3 or 4 and adjusted to a new state. Similarly to Power Potions, Rituals cannot be purchased until level 10. Rituals are very strong but carry a heavy cost. This article will go over every ritual in Smite, explaining what they do and how to use them.

The high cost of rituals means that they are generally only picked up in the late game after a character is full build. Rituals can be bought as alternatives to power pots in the ultra-late game or by a team looking to finish out the game even when they do not have six items. Rituals can be purchased earlier in the game, but at a significant risk. Using a ritual in the mid game can get you very far ahead, but wasting it will effectively cause you to be an additional 750 gold behind the enemy. These factors combined mean that Rituals are best utilized in the late stages of a game.

Flickering Ritual

The first Ritual we will cover is Flickering Ritual. This item is a revival of the old Combat Blink active. Flickering Ritual allows a player to teleport to a location with the range of a normal Blink. The teleport can be used in combat, unlike the current iteration of the Blink Relic. Flickering Ritual is an exciting Ritual to use as it has instant results.

Flickering Ritual has a few uses. The most prominent way to use this consumable is as a disengage tool. You can initiate into an enemy team and still get out safely by teleporting out of the fight. A squishy character can also keep a Flickering Ritual in their pocket in case they get jumped and initiated on. Flickering Ritual can also be used to start fights. This is an expensive initiation tool, but surprise aggression or positioning in the late game can win you a fight and the whole game.

Frenzied Ritual

Frenzied Ritual is a rework of the Frenzy Relic. The Ritual now buffs all allies in the radius, increasing their damage by 25% and attack speed by 20% for 10 seconds. Frenzied Ritual is a huge damage boost to your entire team. The buff from this Ritual helps some characters more than others. While the damage increase is a flat boost to everyone, the attack speed stim benefits Hunters and characters such as Freya the most. The activation of a Frenzied Ritual can change the course of a game.

The main uses of Frenzied Ritual are in team fights and at objectives. The damage boost from this item is incredible and can be used from behind to even up a team fight or to further cement a lead. Winning a team fight more than makes up for the gold invested in a Frenzied Ritual. It can also be used to rush objectives, granting your team an Easier Gold Fury or Fire Giant. Frenzied Ritual can also be used as a final purchase when you engage the enemy Titan to secure victory.

Rallying Ritual

Rallying Ritual is a reimagining of the defunct Teleport to Gods Relic. Activating this item will teleport you to an any allied god on the map after a four second channel. The channel can be interrupted by hard crowd control effects such as stuns and the Ritual is still consumed. This makes Rallying Ritual risky to use in vision of enemies and without knowledge of their cooldowns. However, Rallying Ritual can be very rewarding.

There are a couple ways to use Rallying Ritual. If you get are forced to back or respawn in the end game while your team pushes for an objective or the enemy base, you can pick up a Rallying Ritual to rejoin your team. The item can also be used while split pushing. You can force the enemy to spend on attention on you and then teleport to your team, allowing a power play in your favor.

Timing Rallying Ritual casts is important because the item and gold investment is wasted if you get CCed during the channel. Usually, you want to use the Ritual while alone but you can also force the enemy to commit on you and then get out. The timing is dependent on the gods you are against. You have to use Rallying Ritual when hard CCs are down for four seconds. For example, if an Athena engaged on you alone, you can use Rallying Ritual only after she taunts. Timing Rallying Ritual can be the difference between success and failure.

Revealing Ritual

Revealing Ritual is much stronger than the Scout Relic it replaced. Activating Revealing Ritual will grant your team vision of the entire enemy team for five seconds. The item also unstealths any enemy wards within 70 units of the user. Revealing Ritual is less obvious in its application, but can be a strong pick up.

Revealing Ritual is the hardest Ritual to use effectively. The best usage of Revealing Ritual is to check for the enemy and clear wards at an objective or set up a fight. If you can use knowledge of the enemy to sneak an objective or set a death trap, you can get a large lead. Revealing Ritual can also be wasted if the positions of enemies are already relatively known or nothing comes from the knowledge this item grants. Revealing Ritual is the most macro-oriented Ritual, and thus the hardest to use.

Rituals were added to Smite in Season 4. This class of consumable items are very strong, but come at the cost of 750 gold. This cost means that they are used mainly in the late game. Flickering Ritual is an in-combat blink, Frenzied Ritual is a large team-wide damage boost, Rallying Ritual teleports you to an allied god, and Revealing Ritual grants vision of enemies. These items all provide additional choices in the late game and can be utilized to attain victory.
