Tassadar, the High Templar, is one of the most well-known Protoss characters in the Starcraft universe. With a very unique support kit and playstyle, this hero makes for interesting gameplay with a focus on shielding instead of healing to prevent damage instead of healing it back up.

Q - Plasma Shield: You put a shield on a single Hero or Structure on your team to prevent it from taking direct damage.
W - Psionic Storm: This is our damage ability. It is a really good waveclear tool and does a decent amount of damage in teamfights as well.
E - Dimensional Shift: When you activate this you become invisible and immune to damage and crowd control. It is used to escape gank attempts on you and after level 16 it becomes a self-heal
D (Trait) - Oracle: Creates vision for you and your team in a large area around you. The most important thing about this ability is that it breaks stealth on enemy heroes like Zeratul and Nova.
R - Archon: This heroic does a lot of damage, but it is rarely used over Force Wall. The reason for this is that you normally don't need extra damage in a composition where you have a Tassadar. This will be explained in the section "When to Pick Tassadar" below.
R - Force Wall: Force Wall is very useful in smaller skirmishes 2v2 or 3v3 to block the narrow passages in the terrain, giving your team more time to collapse on the enemies. Force Wall can also be good in big teamfights to zone away important heroes on the enemy team, or to split them up in general.
Level 1: Tassadar is a very mana depending hero, as we are expected to keep shields up on all 5 players on the team at the same time we are clearing the lanes, so the only choice on level 1 is Conjurer's Pursuit.
Level 4: At this tier, we adjust to our own composition as well as the enemy composition. If we got 2 Auto Attack heroes on our team, then we pick Leaching Plasma. If the enemy team has a Zeratul or Nova, or if we are afraid of ganks in general, then we can pick Mental Acuity to keep vision around us more often. And if we are in a composition with something like a double tank or heroes who are more ability damage depending in general, then we can pick Healing Ward to add a bit more healing for the backline.
Level 7: This is the tier where Tassadar start to influence the game a lot. After picking up Khala's Embrace it's important that we circle between our teammates and try to keep shields on them as often as possible, especially before map objectives so that the whole team comes in at full health plus a shield.
Level 10: Here we pick Force Wall 9 out of 10 times. It's simply one of the best controlling tools in the game and has a very low cooldown.
Level 13: At 13, it's going to be Prescience every time. With this we should be almost unkillable unless we have overextended a lot. This talent is basically a safety net.
Level: 16: At 16 we go further into survivability with Dimensional Warp. Now we should not die throughout the rest of the game unless we are outnumbered 1v3 during a surprise gank in our lane. Now we can also use our E as a fast self-heal during team fights.
Level 20: Here we adjust to how the game has evolved so far, if the you feel like you are focused a lot then you can pick up Rewind for extra shields and an extra charge on your E. But if you feel like the damage is more evenly split, then you should pick up Storm Shield.
Force Wall is a very powerful heroic, even though it's not doing tons of damage or healing. What this heroic is good for is for giving you more time and forcing your opponent to move in directions that are not in their own interest.
In this video below, I give an example in try mode where Arthas has been damaged down to low health and wants to go back to tap the well.
But we as Tassadar can force him to stay in our range by blocking his entrance to safety in his lane by placing our Force Wall in front of the gate. There is no danger in doing this, as the Force Wall has no health bar and can't be killed be either enemy heroes or enemy structures.

In the beginning of the game, we want to use our powerful waveclear to get an early advantage, but we will still come to fight for the map objectives. Throughout the early game we pick up the talents shown above to improve our teamfighting.
At level 7, our job as Tassadar becomes more important. It is our job to make sure that as many of our teammates have a non-expiring shield as possible and we want all of them to have it before a teamfight.
In the mid-game, we pick up Force Wall to further improve our teamfight, and then we start to build into our E to make sure we won't die the rest of the game.
Our job is basically to keep shields on our teammates, prioritizing the ones we think will be focused by the enemy team, and the rest of the time we will use our powerful waveclear tools to maintain our lead in exp.
Tassadar fits into all the double support compositions, but he can also be played as solo support on small maps like Tomb of the Spider Queen if you build the right composition around him. This composition needs to consist mainly of Auto Attack heroes and heroes with good disengages. Good examples would be Muradin, Leoric and Anub'arak as tanks who can either be very bulky or have a good escape. Ranged heroes could be Lunara, Sylvanas, Falstad and Valla, who each primarily use their Auto Attacks while also having good disengage abilities.
If you want to get some work done against a Tassadar composition, then you need to get the level lead and stop their early game rotation or they will simply out waveclear you. Later in the game, Silence effects are really effective on the Tassadar. Not so much to kill the Tassadar itself, but it allows you to secure kills on the other enemy heroes while he is locked out. Counters to Tassadar could be Sylvanas with her Silence and otherwise just heroes who can kill a target within the 5 second window where Plasma Shield is on cooldown, such as Greymane, Thrall or Li-Ming.
I normally don't play Tassadar on the ladder. If I want to play a second support, I usually prefer Brightwing with her increased mobility and at least a bit of healing. I would take Tassadar in the situations where I'm one of the last picks and we lack in both support power and wave clear. It's not that I dislike the hero, I just have more fun playing most of the others heroes in the game. As for skins, I use the red tinted Crypt King skin with the matching Hearthstone card mount.
