If you had to pick one champion to represent the whole of League of Legends, who would you pick? Would you go for one of the original seventeen champions like Annie or Ryze, who have been there since the humble beginnings of the game? Or would you select a newer power pick like Braum or Kai’Sa? No matter which champion takes home the crown and represents League for you, there’s only one that has defined competitive play for the past few years.

That champion is undoubtedly Camille, who has served as one of the game’s most prominent picks ever since her release prior to the 2017 season. Over the course of the past two years, Camille has been picked a total of 1,372 times across every competitive region, while being banned another 3,262 times, the most bans received by any single champion throughout that stretch of time.

In total, Camille’s pick/ban presence since her introduction to the game sits at a total of 59%, meaning she’s appeared in well over the majority the champion selects that have occurred over the course of the past two seasons. This season alone, Camille posted a pick/ban presence of 68%, the highest out of all 141 champions in the game. Additionally, she’s appeared in more champion selects than any other champion since the start of the 2017 season, definitively making her the most influential champion in the game as of late.

However, what makes Camille seriously impressive is the fact that throughout the span of the past two years, she’s been featured at least once in four out of the five major roles. And although the champion has yet to be played by a bottom laner, anything is possible with her flexibility.

Her undeniably massive presence is certainly what makes her one of the most striking champions in the game, but it’s the fact that she can be played in almost every position that makes her the most iconic character in the game’s recent history. Nearly every game of competitive League for the past two years has featured Camille. She’s unescapable, and there’s no way to deter her. It's not even like her presence comes in waves. She's pretty much always relevant just because of her natural strengths. The champion’s kit is so versatile, and her skillset can really be applied to almost any situation in any role.

However, throughout the course of the 2018 season, we’ve seen Camille embrace two roles, primarily. Despite receiving her first mid lane pick this season, courtesy of Yasin "Nisqy" Dinçer of Splyce, Camille has mainly been gaining all of her traction in the jungle, while keeping a vice grip on the top lane, as well. This year alone, Camille was picked 584 times as a top laner, with 435 additional selections in the jungle position throughout all leagues, worldwide.

The most notable storyline for Camille this season was the champion’s transition from dedicated top laner with sprinkles of variation to a full-blown flex pick, as she was utilized in every league by nearly every team with far more traces of alteration and style. After only receiving two jungle selections throughout the entirety of last season, Camille became one of the most favored jungle champions in the game for 2018. In fact, her 435 picks keep her in the top 10, while a 55% presence at the jungle position place her firmly at the top. And as the season marched on, it became evident that some of the world’s best junglers instantly adapted and perfected Camille, turning her into one of the game’s most prominent power picks.

Two players who really took Camille to the next level this season are in fact two Chinese junglers who have squared off quite a bit this season. Gao "Ning" Zhen-Ning of Invictus Gaming and Chen "Haro" Wen-Lin of Edward Gaming have not only been the best Chinese Camille players this year, but arguably, they’ve been the best Camille players in the world. And as you might guess, whenver IG and EDG faced off this season, Camille was by miles the most contested pick.

Between the two of them, they combined for a total record of 13-3 in the regular season when playing the champion, while posting an average KDA of 4.4. Ning might have had the stronger record of 8-1 compared to Haro’s mark of 5-3, but the latter’s KDA was the highest of all Camille players in the world with at least 7 games played on the character.

Most recently, during the Play-in Stage of the World Championship, Haro took the Steel Shadow out for a spin onto the Rift on the final day of the Group Stage. Not only did he help secure the win in a 24-minute stomp for Edward Gaming over the Dire Wolves, but he proceeded to set season highs in nearly every single-game statistical category. Although his final scoreline of 1/2/7 couldn’t quite top the 4/0/8 mark he set back on July 1st against Rogue Warriors, he shattered each of his other personal bests for Camille when it came to DPM, CSM, CSD@15, and VSPM.

Haro might have struck first at this year’s World Championship, but Ning absolutely held the upper hand throughout the course of regional play. During the year, the Invictus jungler posted a win-rate of 89% on Camille over a span of nine games, while his winning ways were accompanied by a stellar 3.9 KDA and a DPM of 305.4, the highest DPM among all junglers to take up the champion this season.

Additionally, among all qualified Camille jungle players, Ning led the entirety of the world in CSM with a mark of 5.8, GPM with 393, and and Gold%, as he made up an average of 19.3% of Invictus Gaming’s income throughout each and every game in which he played Camille.

And while Ning and Haro showcased Camille’s greatness at the pinnacle of play in China this season, plenty of others proved themselves on the champion and made her work to the utmost degree. And now, with the World Championship in full swing, Camille has already been making her presence known, and the most talented players in the world are taking advantage of her strengths.

Although Camille has certainly evolved throughout the course of her lifespan, the consistent presence that she’s had within the competitive League of Legends scene has been impressive, for sure. And now, as the 2018 season dwindles to a close, it’s safe to say that the impact Camille has had on the game over the course of the last two years is unmatched. With appearances in nearly every position across the Rift for the last two years, she’s easily become a constant factor at the game’s highest level of play.

She has no signs of slowing down, either, and although she may not be the face of the game in a “traditional” sense, Camille has most definitely put her stamp on the game’s competitive scene, making her the face of the game in a more statistical and technical sense. Soon enough Riot and the playerbase have to recognize the behemoth we really have on our hands.
