Delivering some Tips & Tricks for newcomers in the hot new BR: Apex Legends!
Apex Legends is a fast-paced Battle Royale shooter where you'll have to be on the edge of your seat for almost the full game. If you let your guard down, it's easy to get caught out of position or get overrun by enemies. Not dying is very crucial because you're an essential part of your team that'll function optimally when you're all alive. However, it is possible to get revived after getting knocked down or after dying completely. We're here to help you out with some tips and tricks for your survival that we've discovered through playing the game and analyzing our mistakes. Without further ado, let's get into it!
1) Deploying at the Right Time
When I went into my first game, I had a Jump Master that got out of the plane immediately. The following games kept the same course of gameplay. If this happens, it's better to stay with your team, but it's a lot better to communicate with your team about the enemies that'll be flocking around your looting spot. If you decide to delay your deployment until you're halfway across the map or at the end, your chances of surviving longer will become significantly higher.
Find a spot that you prefer when comparing it to the surrounding territory. Do this for every corner of the map and you'll find yourself in a comfortable spot to explore the rest of the map.
Around 35 to 45 people drop out at the start, leaving the other end of the map open for an extended scavenge session.
2) Using the Ring to Your Advantage
New players think that staying in the ring for too long doesn't benefit them at all. In the case of Apex Legends, it's actually the complete opposite. This is due to the ring making it harder to see enemies. Not only that but the amount of damage you receive at the first (and arguably the second ring) is so irrelevant that you'll be able to flank around your enemies with ease if they're camping a spot with more than two entrances.
Another added benefit of wandering outside of the safe zone is the element of surprise. Since there's no ranked gamemode (yet), the chance of you being spotted by the enemy also decreases. Keep this in mind and especially "Wraith" (Interdimensional Skirmisher character) benefits from pulling this flanking strategy off. She can easily use her Q Ability and surprise enemies from behind in the blink of an eye.
3) Slide As Much As Possible
Just like in every other Battle Royale game that we've seen, movement is still one of the key parts of survival and winning a game.
The benefits of sliding often are:
• You're harder to hit and less predictable
• The window of opportunity for the enemy to hit you becomes smaller in cramped spaces
• You'll move faster
After sliding, you should probably think about jumping. It'll increase your chances of dodging that one fatal bullet as you're sliding down a hillside.
Sliding will tilt your weapon sideways but you can always quickly get out of your sliding mode by jumping! (Releasing the CTRL Key will let you come to a brief standstill, jumping will let you shoot and move at the same time when you just slid)
4) Using LOS
LOS, short for Line of Sight, is extremely important in this game and can shift the tides of a heated battle in your favour. Cutting around corners or going under garage doors by sliding under it can confuse your enemy, ultimately allowing you to run away or surprise your enemy by using a Shotgun (the Peacekeeper, for example).
Snipers do get used in this game but luckily aren't that effective. This won't be a huge problem when trying to run away from someone camping you.
Combine the utilization of LOS with the use of Pings in this game and you'll definitely have more success when you're fighting against an opposing Squad. Make sure to stick to each other behind objects/walls, but do this with as much coordination as possible so you avoid dying to grenades.
5) Avoid Overextending
This tip may seem obvious and it's easy to get used to, but that doesn't change the fact that this is extremely important. In Apex Legends, the enemy will be able to set up a trap in a compound and lure you in. If this is successful, they're more likely to win the whole fight overall. Even teams of three random players without any communication can set it up since the game has an astounding ping system that makes cooperation a much smoother process.
If you want to give chase to an enemy, consider these factors before you're going to commit:
• Are you alone?
• Is your character able to take on multiple players at once?
• Do you know the position of the other enemies?
6) High ground
If you're going to take a fight, high ground is definitely going to give you an advantage in close-quarters combat. I've come to the conclusion that most players in Apex Legends aren't used to looking above them (yet) when they're exiting a building. They'll check the left and right side religiously but leave themselves open for a surprise from the roof. Make sure to always check all angles yourself!
Climbing and falling down quickly after can throw off the enemy in such a way that you'll lose them quickly in the midst of a hot pursuit. Your character has the ability to climb high walls efficiently, so use this when it's needed!
7) Crouching
Crouching will help you to hide your position, both in the amount of noise that you'll make and how visible you are for the enemy player. Don't combine crouching with using your Arm Shield when scoping in. The shield animation is obvious to see even from afar.
When you're crouching, shotguns are even more effective against you. Take this into consideration when trying to hide from an enemy that you know makes use of this type of weapon.
8) Avoid Hotspots
You don't have to avoid hotspots entirely, but definitely approach carefully. When we're talking about, hotspots we mean:
• Respawn Beacons (medium level of danger, depending on which phase of the game you're in)
• Supply drops (high level of danger)
• Chokepoints that lead to the Safe Zone (high level of danger)
It's really important to take the consequences into account together with your team, that's what will help you towards victory. If you don't have a choice, try to either entirely rush one of the three hotspots that we mentioned, but if there's any sign of possible enemies (gunshots, footsteps, casings on the ground, etc) proceed with caution.
