In this guide we'll be going in-depth on Lifeline as a character, how she fits in a Team and the smartest way to play her!
Lifeline is the Combat Medic that's currently the only healer in Apex Legends. She's considered a Support along with Pathfinder, but their contributions to the team are vastly different. Since it's mandatory to play Apex Legends with a squad of three (doesn't matter if they're strangers or friends), you need to have a solid foundation for your team to build upon and Lifeline is exactly the character that can offer that. That's why we decided it was about time to make an in-depth guide about her. Let's get right into it!
Abilities
Lifeline has a few unique abilities that no other character can reproduce in any way. These unique abilities are also easily utilized in the most hectic situations. We'll go through and explain what every ability is and what it can be used for:
• Combat Medic (Passive)
Arguably the best Passive ability in the game, Lifeline can revive players 25% quicker while also placing a shield whichever direction she's facing towards. There is a lot of teamplay potential for this passive ability. It can be best utilized by reviving someone in a corner so you can face the other way and protect your fallen teammate from all angles except for aerial attacks. We'll get into the team play with the shield later on in this guide.
This passive isn't just one sole ability, Lifeline also has a passive that you could compare to the Legendary in-game backpack. Her second passive allows her to also heal herself quicker, whether it's replenishing her shield or health. This makes Lifeline an excellent soldier in battle since she can push enemies and quickly run away to safety and heal herself within seconds. An important note to keep in mind is that the Legendary backpack can be used to amplify this passive to even greater levels.
• D.O.C Heal Drone (Tactical, Q Hotkey)
D.O.C Heal Drone, also known as The Drone of Compassion, is a separate unit that can only be summoned by Lifeline herself once every minute. This unit can be pushed around and should always be used while you're behind cover. You can save up your Medkits/Syringes by using this ability as much as possible and it's very impactful in the earlier stages of the game. It can heal multiple players at once and will vanish after a certain amount of time or when its healing output has maxed.
• Care Package (Ultimate, Z Hotkey)
Last but certainly not least is Lifeline's Ultimate ability, Care Package. Care Package is one of the slowest charging ultimate abilities in the game for good reason. When it's fully charged Lifeline can call in a blue Care Package with Epic or Legendary rarity goodies. Legendary items are very uncommon, so don't expect to find them in every Care Package. Here's a list detailing the type of items you can get out of a Lifeline Care Package:
• Attachments (Sniper Stock, Standard Stock, Selectfire Receiver, Scopes, etc.)
• Armor (Level 3 or higher)
• Weapons (.50 Cal Sniper, Mastiff Shotgun)
• Medication (Guaranteed drop. This takes up one out of three slots on your Care Package. Includes Phoenix Kits, Shield Batteries, and Medkits as well as Shield Cells or Syringes.)
Lifeline's Contribution to a Team
Lifeline has very powerful abilities as previously mentioned. She can put this to use in multiple ways and does so in an efficient fashion. We'll be going through some tips here that can really elevate your level of gameplay as Lifeline.
First off, Lifeline's Drone can always be used for other teammates to heal themselves while they're using Shield Cells at the same time. Outside of Phoenix Kits, this is one of the most effective ways to swiftly heal the team back up to max capacity. Lifeline can also leave her Drone behind to do the healing work for her while she's fighting enemies outside. Make sure you're doing this as much as possible and that your healing routine goes smoothly.
Secondly, Ultimate Accelerants are way more useful throughout the game but make sure to use them immediately. Care Packages can really influence the outcome of the game and if your team gives you all of the Ultimate Accelerants, you'll have two to three extra Care Packages each match.
Thirdly, Lifeline should have more medical supplies on her compared to her teammates. She can use them more efficiently since they take less time to consume. This will make Lifeline a very annoying character for your enemies to deal with. The strategy here is to get up close and personal with your enemy using a shotgun or an automatic weapon that's effective at close range. You'll be able to quickly peek around a corner, burst someone down, and heal up behind cover if they even hit you. Lifeline has a small hitbox so that's also beneficial for pushing your opponents.
Last off, the shield that Lifeline puts in front of her when she revives a teammate could be utilized by your third squadmate. For example, the Mirage player in your team has been downed under a wooden house in the Cascades part of the map. While you're reviving him, your teammate can use the shield as an extra wall to play around which will throw off most enemies. If your teammate has been revived run in front of him to protect him from going down again.
Lifeline's Synergy with Other Legends
I've played a fair share of games and won quite a few of them with my two squadmates. Lifeline is definitely an important factor in our team and can't be easily replaced like some other legends can be. Let's go through some of the most successful character combinations in the game:
1) Bangalore, Bloodhound, and Lifeline
This combination is my personal favorite because it has everything a team needs. You'll be able to revive players in safety due to the Smoke Grenades that Bangalore can put down on one of your teammates. This, combined with a hidden health drone on a normally open field, will open up opportunities. Be careful for Digital Threats later in the game and make sure that your shield is still facing towards the side of your enemies!
Bloodhound will have an outstanding natural synergy with Bangalore. Smoke your enemies and pop Bloodhound's ultimate ability that allows him to see through walls and move at an extremely fast pace.
2) Pathfinder, Bangalore, and Lifeline
I use this combination when I'm duo queuing since most randoms seem to play either Wraith, Pathfinder or Bangalore. You can replace Bangalore with Wraith but I feel like setting up in a building after using Pathfinder's ability is more effective with Bangalore since she has abilities she can use defensively. On top of that Bangalore can also call an Airstrike outside which will force the enemies away (except when there's another house nearby) and smoke the exits of your building. Lifeline benefits from knowing where the circle will land so she can position herself to make it nearly impossible to kill her when she's reviving a fallen teammate.
3) Caustic and Lifeline
Caustic and Lifeline are a weird combination and I've used Lifeline a lot along with another squadmate that mains Caustic. You'll have the same effect as a Smoke grenade when you're in an allied gas trap, but it'll slow you and limit your sight heavily. On top of this, your health drone won't work when you're in the midst of an allied Caustic's gas. Keep this in mind before you press Q. The gas lasts for quite a while and your Health Drone may disappear before you can even utilize it.
Other than that, Caustic is an amazing character to play along with, but his gas traps make it hard for you to play optimally when you're caught in close-quarters combat.
Conclusion
Lifeline can act as the backbone of a solid team and with her unique abilities, she's hard to replace. I would recommend Lifeline to players that haven't played a Support class in other shooters since she can still hold her own ground against even the toughest of opponents.
