Urgot The Underrated ADC

A quick look at Urgot and some good points at why he's a good ADC...

INTRODUCTION

Let’s start off with where Urgot is in the current Meta… I’d say he isn’t in it at all and it’s been awhile since poor old Urgot hasn't been recognized by many as a good solid ADC pick, why is this? My opinion of this is he’s not the nicest champion to look at and some may say his abilities lack compared to other Meta ADC’s… but isn’t that the point there Meta? Yes and No really, ADC’s like Jinx, Lucian, Caitlyn, Tristana, Graves, Sivir and Kalista are the Meta pick’s in most cases with high mobility, CC and great damage with burst and DPS (Damage per Second) in the early, mid and late game if they can keep rolling through it all and not get shut down (Which is difficult in some situations).

Now even though those ADC’s are very powerful they can all be shut down by Urgot (Depending On Player Skill). Urgot has the ability to spam his Q and even lock on to his targets whilst his E is affecting them… Isn’t that OP? I believe it is and it’s so much fun to harass these Meta picks with him because it shows how awesome he is as a champion. Urgot’s W grants him a shield and his R grants him the ability to switch places with his target and then gain extra Armor, Magic Resist and slows the target by 40% for 3 seconds… what Meta ADC can give you that much in a 1v1 or 2v2 fight? I’m going to go into more information about his abilities and such in a moment but first let’s look at his Pro’s and Con’s…

Pros

- Can be rather tanky and still output a lot of damage as an ADC
- Very good poke with Q which if combined with his E is hard to miss the enemy
- Active shield which can help soak up skill shots in early game
- Doesn’t need Crit’s to succeed
- Can deal a lot of DPS in a short amount of time
- Can bully other ADC’s out of lane very fast

Cons

- Uses a lot of Mana
- His power spike can be delayed compared to other ADC’s
- His R can put you in suicide situations if not used properly
- You have to stack a Tear Of The Goddess which some people get put off by

SUMMONER SPELLS

Flash is a must needed summoner spell for any role aswell as ADC since it can get you out of tough situations fast and gives you the ability to go over walls and structures that aren't too thick. But this can also be used to close the gap to secure a kill or chase your opponents down and even dodging skill shots that could cause a lot of damage towards you.

I always feel safer as an ADC if I have Heal with me since its a nice instant Heal and Movement Speed buff which can get you and your support out of lane fast in case of ganks since Heal effects the closest champion to you and gives them the same instant Heal and Movement Speed buff. This can also be used for general sustain in the lane to farm longer than your opponent just be aware that they can have there's still so be wary when fighting when yours is down and there's could or will be up.

SKILL ORDER

For Urgot's abilites you want to start off with your Q since this can give you good poke and farming from level 1 to 3 and if you use Q and it kill's a unit half of the Mana used for that Ability will be refunded to you so you can farm quite efficiently without using loads of Mana if you needed to catch up with your opponents farm number. For your second ability you will want to go for your E since if this hits a champion your Q will lock onto that champion if they are within a certain radius and if there are no units in the way to block the missile. Then obviously for your third ability you'd get your W which is good to soak up any damage your opponents can deal at level 3 with any of there poke abilites, I always leave this to level 3 since you can bully your opponent quite a lot with your Q+E combo and be able to free farm by forcing them out of lane, your W just gives you a bit more tank and can slow down enemies with auto attacks or Q so it gives you chase potential in and out of lane. Then at level 6 you will obviously get your R which gives you the ability to turn fights around in your favor if you can position yourself and your opponent properly. As you can see from the image above what I think is best to upgrade the most first, second ect and it works for me so It'll work for you aswell.

(Passive) Zan-Touched Bolt Augmenter

Urgot’s basic attacks and Q reduce all the damage that his target deals by 15% for 2.5 seconds.

This passive helps Urgot a lot in 1v1 and 2v2 situations since you will mainly be the focus in these types of fights so being able to reduce your opponent’s damage for half of the fight is very helpful. You will always want to remember that Urgot's passive does this since if you’re ahead you have the advantage to turn fights your way every time since Urgot can be built quite tanky anyway so itll make it harder for your opponents to kill you before you kill them.

(Q) Acid Hunter

Urgot fires a missile in a line towards the cursor dealing physical damage to the first enemy it hits. His Passive is also applied to the target. Killing a unit will refund half the mana cost. Range – 1000 (1200 with E Lock-on)/ Cost – 40Mana/ Cooldown – 2 seconds/ Physical Damage – 10/40/70/100/130 (+85% AD)

This ability is the main part of Urgot’s kit since it works with his Passive, W and E. You can use it to farm and poke with it. Its farm potential is great as well since if it kills a unit you get half your Mana used for it back which can give you an edge in lane by having some sort of sustain with Mana which gives you better poke potential in the early game since Urgot is essentially a lane bully with his Q+E combo.

(W) Terror Capacitor

Urgot charges up his capacitor to gain a shield that absorbs damage for up to 7 seconds. While the shield is active Urgot’s basic attacks and Q missiles will slow targets hit for 1.5 seconds. Cost – 55/60/65/70/75 Mana/ Cooldown – 16/15/14/13/12/ Shield Strength – 60/100/140/180/220 (+80%AP) (+8% Max Mana)

This ability is very useful for early game 1v1/2v2 fights since it makes you a bit tankier than your opponent and because your auto attacks and Q will slow them it makes it hard for them to run away or chase if the fight doesn’t go your way. And this ability will become stronger as the game goes because of some of Urgot’s main items have high Mana so your shield will become stronger as the game goes on so it makes you a hard ADC to kill.

(E) Noxian Corrosive Charge

Urgot launches a corrosive charge at a target 150-radius area afflicting all enemies hit for 5 seconds. Enemies afflicted by the charge have their Armor reduced by a percentage and take physical damage over the duration. Range – 900/ Cost 50/55/60/65/70 Mana/ Cooldown – 15/14/13/12/11/ Armor Reduction – 12/14/16/18/20%/ Total Physical Damage – 75/130/185/240/295 (+60% Bonus AD)

Noxian Corrosive Charge is a good DPS ability that you can fire out directly at the enemy, if it hits the targets become a target for your Q to lock onto and home in on if no units are in the way and its in range. This is very helpful to bully your opponents out the lane in the early game so you can soak up the experience whilst there forced to go back or sit at their tower waiting to farm. This ability can also be used very effectively in the later game as it gets +60% bonus AD off your AD stat so in team fights if you can hit a whole team with this is will slowly wreck there health and make some targets easy pick offs because of the home in ability your Q gets off this.

(R) Hyper-Kinetic Position Reverser

Urgot targets an enemy champion and channels for 1 second suppressing the target for the duration. If the channel completes Urgot and the target will swap positions, the target will be slowed by 40% for 3 seconds and Urgot will ignore until collision for 1 second. Urgot also gain bonus Armor and Magic Resistance for 5 seconds, starting from the beginning of the channel time and even if the channel gets interrupted Urgot will still get his bonus Armor and Magic Resist. Range – 550/700/850/ Cost – 100 mana/ Cooldown – 120/11/80/ Armor & Magic Resist – 60/90/120

This ability is what makes Urgot such a different ADC since he basically puts himself on the wrong side of the fight depending on how you use it obviously since you can’t just use this ability whenever you want too; you need to think about where you’ll be put as well as your target. But the bonus resists you get from this makes Urgot so tanky especially when combined with his W, it makes you hard to kill in some situations. The best time I’d say to use this is when your pushed under tower, since if you use R on them you’ll be still safe next to your tower but they’ll be underneath it so that’ll either make them waste there flash or they’ll try and fight and most likely lose since a lot of people aren’t familiar with Urgot and underestimate him a lot of the time I think.

ITEM BUILD

For my starting items with Urgot I start with the same for any ADC I play which is a Dorans Blade, Health Pot and a Ward Trinket. Since a Dorans Blade gives you 7 Attack Damage, +3% Lifesteal and 70 Health which is a good start for a ADC since your squishy and need some sort of Damage and sustain in the early stages this is always a must item in my eye's for any ADC. The Health Pot is just for more sustain incase you take poke from your opponents which will happen eventually and your Ward Trinket is so you can help your Support keep early game vision up to avoid getting ganked before your support can buy there Sightstone.

In the mid game for Urgot you'll want these items or atleast two of them since you can't always get a lot of gold in every game. You need to start off with a Tear of the Goddess when you first go back to the store since this is a key item for you early game. If your not familiar with Tear of the Goddess it grants +4 / 5 mana (max +750 mana) for each spell cast and mana expenditure. (occurs up to 2 times every 8 / 6 seconds). Gains +1 mana every 8 / 6 seconds, so essentially it stacks up when you use Mana/Abilites and when it stacks fully it transforms the Manamune into the Muramana which is a core item for Urgot since it's Active also gives single target spells and attacks (on hit) consume 3% of current Mana to deal bonus physical damage equal to twice the amount of Mana consumed which makes him deadly without needing Crit's which is rare for ADC's not to build Crit's in the current Meta of ADC builds. The Blade of the Ruined King is another good item for Urgot since it gives you more 1v1 potential and survivability when alone becuase of it's Active, Lifesteal, Damage and Attack Speed can let you rip apart your opponents health every hit whilst there hoping too get a good Crit chance on you they'll already be dead if youve played it right. the Bloodthirster is another great item for Urgot since it gives you a shield whilst in combat so combined with your W and your R makes you very tanky and hard to kill whilst you'll still be bringing alot of damage to fights.

This is a good example of a final build for Urgot. Quickly explaining why there is a Frozen Heart and Iceborn Gaunlet in there they both bring good Mana stat's which keep you tanky in fights with good Mana sustain, you get good Armor, Health aswell and to make it even better the Iceborn Gauntlet gives you the Sheen ability where after an Ability your next Basic attack deals extra damage gives you the ability to destroy your opponents with a lot of different on hit effects and slows all combined together to make it hard to run away from you and take you on in fights. You can trade one of those items for a Phantom Dancer or Statik Shiv if you prefer its your choice but I feel like urgot doesnt need loads of Attack Speed since your Basic Attacks combined with your Q will do so much damage its like having constant Crit's in some situations with him if your lucky enough to get to full build in a game. Finally the Berserkes Greaves gives you good Movement Speed for an ADC and a little more Attack Speed combined with your Blade of the Ruined King gives you enough Attack Speed in my opinion. So overall you will be a tanky ADC who can bring a lot of Damage into every fight and make it nearly impossible for squishy champions to get away and survive if played right and smart.

MASTERIES

These are the Masteries I use for Urgot, there the basic 21/9 ADC masteries apart from I went for the Unyielding mastery in the Defense section instead of going for Double-Edged Sword in the Offesne section becuase I feel with Urgot id rather be a tiny bit more Defensive than a tiny bit more Offensive, its just my general preference and how I play him you might rather have Double-Edged Sword. But there isnt really anything special about these Masteries becuase as i said there basic ADC Masteries so you can go with mine or make your own its completely up to you.

RUNES

These are my Runes for Urgot, as you can see i have 9 Greater Mark Of Attack Damage, 5 Greater Glyphs Of Attack Damage and3 Greater Quintessence Of Attack Damage becuase i like having flat damage and feel like if I could potentially out damage other ADC's if there Runes arent as heavy damage as mine in the early game which will make my trades better than thier's. I have 4 Greater Seal Of Critical Chance because I like having the built in Crit chance for the early level's to increase the chance of me getting an early kill or trading a lot better than my opponents and It means i dont have to build Crit's fast if Im going down a Crit build which with Urgot I usually dont have Crits apart from these in my Runes. For my Resist's I have 5 Greater Seal Of Armor and 4 Greater Glyph Of Magic Resist which in my opinion gives me enough Resist's for the early game and lets me scale up quite nicely so I dont have to build any Resist in game since my team should peel for me anyway and If you play safe and avoid head on fights with tanks or fighters you should survive. These runes are also used for all my ADC's and they work for all of them so I hope you can take something from my rune page and incorporate it into your own game since it does really work having the early damage and Crit's.

QUICK GAMEPLAY GUIDE/CONCLUSION

When playing Urgot in games you want to play the same as any other ADC at the start just farm up to get your early items, in this case will be a Tear of the Goddess so you can start stacking it up as fast as possible so just keep in mind that you wont be as powerful as your opponent first back. But just stick with it and keep going, farm and continuosly harass whilst in lane so your opponent wont think of you as a lesser threat. When going into the Mid game where you might start roaming and creating pressure on other parts of the map you should have atleast your Manamune and Blade of the Ruined King so you have a decent 1v1 potential now and will be able to take on other poeple just as well as any other ADC. You just have to think a bit more and use your kit to its fullest so you can utilize why Urgot is so powerful and turn fights in your way every time wether it being a team fight or 1v1/2v2 fight.

Always keep in mind aswell for Mid game going into the late game you shuld always be with your team since your crucial in thier success and they can use your kit in every fight. Going into the late game you should have your Muramana/Blade fo the Ruined King/Bloodthirster/Berserkers Greaves and atleast the Frozen Heart or Iceborn Gauntlet. Having 4/5 of those items will make you extremly powerful and tanky so there team will have a hard time taking you out without them dying in the process. Also with your Active from your Muramana and Blade of the Ruined King which makes you powerful in fights when up, your Bloodthirster shield whilst in combat, the slow with the Frozen Heart or the Sheen ability from the Iceborn Gauntlet will make you a tanky ADC which will destroy them in team fights so have fun.

I hope this guide has been useful for you and found out why Urgot is powerful and can contest with other ADC's in the current Meta and always I think and maybe you'll start playing him and see for yourself becuase I have a lot of fun whenever I play Urgot and I think he should be a noticable good strong pick which is realised by others.
