The preseason has officialy started with Patch 5.22 and it brought us new masteries. Although higher elo players adapt their masteries in the champion select based around the team compositions, we are bringing you some basic masteries for Support.
STANDARD SUPPORT MASTERY PAGE
First of all, we are giving you standard Support mastery page. The keystone mastery we recommend to pick is the so called Bond of Stone. Bond of Stone is reducing 4% damage which doubles to 8% when it comes to reducing the damage your nearest ally would get. This keystone mastery can help your AD Carry to play and farm more freely around the lane since poke from the opponents will not bother him/her as much. As you can see, we recommend 12 mastery points on Cunning page, and the rest of them on Resolve, where Bond of Stone is. What we especially like on this mastery page is a pretty huge health regeneration you get from the Resolve page.
UTILITY SUPPORT MASTERY PAGE
For those who like to play utility Supports, such as Janna, Nami, Soraka, Sona, Lulu, etc, we recommend picking Windspeaker's Blessing as keystone mastery. With Windspeaker's Blessing your shields and heals are 10% stronger and, if used on an ally, they increase their resistances by 15% for 3 seconds. That keystone mastery is especially good for utility Supports we mentioned because they have strong offensive abilities (shields and heals) and have them pretty often. With their poke and resistance with these masteries, bottom lane with utility Supports is getting more powerful with both defense and offense. With these Supports, Cunning page gets 18 points, and Resolve page 12.
AP POKE SUPPORT MASTERY PAGE
If you are rather a poke person, here is a mastery page for AP (poke) Supports. This is the only mastery page for Support that goes with Ferocity page, and it takes 12 points. Keystone mastery for these kinds of champions should be Thunderlord’s Decree, and here we are talking about champions such as Annie, Karma, Zyra and Morgana. Thunderlord’s Decree is a mastery that shocks the area around your enemy on your 3rd attack or spell, dealing 10 damage per level plus 20% of your bonus attack damage or 10% of your ability power. Ferocity page in this example is helping you with the poke as you should choose increased damage/ability power. The rest of the points (18) go to Cunning mastery page.
However, for a lot more magic penetration, less AoE damage and more single target, we recommend Deathfire Touch build as keystone mastery. Deathfire Touch is causing enemy champions to take 6 + 50% of your bonus attack damage and +20% of your ability power in magic damage over 3 seconds from your damaging abilities. For this, more offensive kind of Support plays, Ferocity page gets 18 points, and Cunning 12.
TANKY SUPPORT MASTERY PAGE
At the end, we bring you a mastery page for tanky Supports. This goes with champions like Thresh, Leona, Blitz, Alistar, Taric and Tahm. Resolve mastery page goes best with tanky Supports and that’s why it is, in this case, getting 18 points. Keystone mastery is the same as for standard Supports – Bond of Stone (to read more about it, go back to the “Standard Support masteries” at the very beginning of this article). However, some changes in the mastery skill tree on both Cunning page and Resolve are required. With tank Supports you will need more bonus armour and magic resist, more mana and more movement speed. If you are planning to roam with your tanky Support, you can choose Explorer mastery too.
Although these will and should be the most common builds for the Supports this season, do have in mind that situation around team composition should define exactly what masteries you should pick, so try to adapt to the situation as much as you can.
