Tips and Tricks Revolving Around Grenades in PUBG

A guide that goes in-depth about grenades and the process around them

You've probably been in contact with grenades plenty of times while on the Battlegrounds, but how many times have you used them yourselves? Some players I've met don't even consider using their grenades and just keep peeking while that makes them a lot more vulnerable. This guide will show you how you can use your grenades to your advantage and how to get more effect from them. Let's jump into the guide.

~ Types of grenades and which of them are the most useful.

Smoke grenades are a very commonly found grenade, but also one of the most useful. Use this to hide your movement or to start your assault on a building since the smoke goes through every wall imaginable in the current game.

Frag grenades are less commonly found then Smoke grenades but the frag grenade is the most useful grenade in the game and should always be prioritized over other grenades. Be sure to pick up as many as possible when looting buildings because they'll become very useful when assaulting buildings, killing someone that's behind a tree or in the middle of a field proning.

If you don't have any smoke grenades to cover your movement and need to push someone that's relatively close to you, a frag grenade does the job since it blocks the enemies vision for the most part in the seconds after it has been detonated.

Molotov cocktails are a bit different. This type of "grenade" is the rarest to find in the current game and less useful than more commonly found grenades. The Molotov Cocktail doesn't bounce on the ground before it detonates (Since it's made of glass) and you can't cook it before you throw it. When using this "grenade" you should always be wary that it should hit an essential spot on impact like a choke point inside a compound.

Stun grenades are like the smoke grenades, very commonly found. This grenade is pretty useful if you know how to time your cooking or use multiple at once in your squad. If you're only using one to blind someone in a building, there's a high chance he won't even get blinded because if you turn around or go behind a wall the whole effect will be negated. Try to prioritize other grenades over the stun grenade when playing solo if you have them available.

~ What to do when you're being assaulted with grenades. It's important to have good sound when you're being assaulted with grenades, but it's even more important to pay attention where their grenades will land and when they're throwing their grenades. When the enemy is throwing a grenade at you, they're very vulnerable to any fire that you shoot at them. So try to maximize the impact that you deliver in this small time window.

For example, if you're inside of a building that has four rooms and a balcony and a grenade gets thrown into your room, you need to not get blocked by closed doors that lead to other rooms in your building but always keep the doors closed that act as an exit for your building. If your building has barred windows you don't need to worry about getting killed by grenades.

~ How to be as effective as possible when throwing your grenades. This is the hardest part of this guide to get right and requires a lot of practice.

Most people, at least in the beginning, try to use the red line that appears from your character to the direction your crosshair is facing. This indicator that tries to help you throw isn't perfectly accurate though, you always need to aim a little higher than what the red line is indicating, but it is accurate for throwing against edges to bounce it when you're throwing at a different angle.

The next feature that you need to abuse as much as possible is "cooking" a grenade. "Cooking" a grenade essentially comes down to preparing the grenade in a way that it detonates earlier than the standard throwing time. To execute this, when you're holding left mouse click you also need to press R once while simultaneously holding the left mouse button. Be very careful not to hold the grenade in your hand for too long since it will explode in your hand, killing you. To cook it perfectly you should hold it for around 3 and a half seconds before releasing your left mouse button to have it explode pretty quickly when you're throwing it through a window or to an enemy that's at a tree around 10 meters away from you. When you're cooking the grenade, don't peek yet and wait until the very last second before peeking to minimize the time window that you're very vulnerable.

If you want to throw your grenade further in front of you, try running and then jumping while throwing to get more power and if you want it to be closer to you, try throwing with your right mouse button but overall it's better to throw with the left mouse button since the grenade will travel faster and have more of a surprise effect.

~ Using grenades at the same time with your team. Grenades are even more useful when they're being thrown by multiple people at the same target. There are multiple combinations that you can use to be a lot more lethal when assaulting your enemies.

When you're using stun grenades, try to throw them from many different angles so there's a higher chance that you blind your enemy or have intervals between the stun grenades that you are throwing. Using the smoke grenade to mask the location where your stun grenade will detonate is a very good combination to pull off.

Beware that using stun grenades and lethal grenades simultaneously isn't recommendable because most of the time your stun grenades will be wasted.

With lethal grenades (the molotov cocktail and frag grenade) it's a bit different. The molotov cocktail should be used to clear rooms and force the enemies to move to the adjacent rooms while your teammates are throwing grenades in the room that the enemies are forced to walk in.

In conclusion, these grenades can literally turn a whole fight around when they are used in the right ways or in harmony with other grenades. When you're playing safe enough they can be a lot more effective in killing your enemies than normal weapons since you don't have to be in their line of sight to have a shot at killing them or knocking them down. I wish you the best of luck while practicing with the grenades and in general playing the game of PUBG.
