General Support Guide by dignitas/Darky

dignitas/Darky takes you through the basics of Supporting in Infinite Crisis.

Hi guys, Darky here from Team Dignitas’ Infinite Crisis Squad. For those of you not familiar with the scene, I’ve been playing Infinite Crisis as Support for almost a year now, with our first LAN occurence at Gamescom 2013 and our recent 4-2 win over Na’Vi at Dreamhack.

This guide will cover the different kinds of Supports and their playstyles aswell as Stolen Power Choice and Credit distribution.

First of all, I’d like to explain the Credit distribution because it’s the foundation for the great variety you’ll find in the Support meta. Unlike other MOBA games, Credits are split in same proportions (50/50) for both the person who lasthits a Drone and nearby allied Champions (if there’s more than a second person, the representative 50% will get split amongst all additional nearby Allies). This leads to many different options for the Support role aswell as Itemization.

Generally, you’ll find three different styles of Supports in Infinite Crisis.

(Here, I won’t go into the Champions specific details, keep an eye out for future guides regarding that.)

Healer
The first one of them, and probably the one representing the name of Support the most, is the healer/shielder kind. Champions in that role would be Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn, and partially Zatanna aswell as Nightmare Superman, but their strength comes more from damage than their Heal or Shields. Poison Ivy is an anti-AD monster and does really well in disengaging aswell as AoE comps.

Harley Quinn does really well in lategame but has a rough early game due to her low base Health. The Healer role will play really passively in Early game and just disengage whenever your opponents try to engage. Their CC may also be used offensively when your allied Jungler is coming in for a gank. Later on in the game, just sit by your Marksman player and Heal/Shield them and use your CC aswell as your Damage to try and bring down enemy Bruisers or Assassins.

Tank/CC
The Second style is a really CC-heavy Tank Support role. Champions to look at are Atomic Poison Ivy (API) aswell as Mecha Superman and Wonder Woman. Except for Wonder Woman, this role is supposed to win early game and therefore pairs excellently with Green Arrow. Although API was nerfed in the last Patch, she is still a force to be reckoned with because of her point-click CC which helps a lot with bursting/poking opponents during laning and her lategame potential to catch. Mecha Supes does great when having a successful Combo but can fall behind very quickly. Wonder Woman although is supposed to be played passive early on and wins teamfights later in the game. Whenever you play with a Green Arrow Marksman on your lane, try to get either API or Mecha Superman.

Damage
Due to the Credits being split 50/50, Infinite Crisis Supports often end up being another Carry or a Damage-dealing type of Champion. Although most of the Blasters could be played in this position, the best ones to consider are Nightmare Superman, Zatanna, Joker and Green Lantern. Nightmare Superman additionally offers a high amount of CC aswell as a strong shield which is also why he is considered a top tier pick at the moment. Zatanna and Joker both offer a good amount of early game poke while Green Lantern is a lategame carry with a strong soft-CC in form of a 70% slow, offering gank potential for your Jungler.

Now, on to the last topic which is Stolen Powers. As I’ve played around a lot with different Stolen Powers and also keep in mind that my Lane partner usually runs both Arcane Green Lantern’s Healing Wave aswell as Doomsday’s Invulnerability, one of my two Stolen Powers will always be Green Arrow’s Surveillance Camera.

Green Arrow’s Surveillance Camera

As of right now, this is one of the strongest, if not the best, Powers in the game. It allows you to deny enemy vision while also granting your own Team Vision. I’ve never been in the case of not picking it up.

For your second Power, you will have way more options to choose from. Generally, it depends on what kind of Support you play. For the CC-heavy Supports, you’ll want to run Zatanna’s Psychic Assault.

Zatanna’s Psychic Assault

The reason for this is that on top of your champions CC you get another 40% Slow for 3 Seconds which is almost a guaranteed kill combined with your Champion's CC. It just generally grants a lot of kill potential and does not lose effectiveness later on in the game.

For the more squishy Supports you will want to grab some survivability for your second Power choice. I find Doomsday’s Invulnerability most useful, but Poison Ivy’s Healing Wave is also a very viable option.

Doomsday’s Invulnerability

This Power not only helps with surviving Laning phase, but also helps with Tower diving aswell as lategame Teamfights. Pick on squishy Supports such as Joker, Zatanna and Nightmare Superman.

Other viable Options would be:

Gaslight Catwoman’s X-Ray Vision

Choose for additional Lane control or to counter Stealth Champions such as Gaslight Catwoman, Nightmare Batman. I frequently run this with Harley Quinn as she has a rough Early Game.

Poison Ivy’s Healing Wave

Helps to sustain Early Game laning Phase and offers Strength for lategame Teamfights. Choose this when your Marksman does not run Healing Wave.

Ending thoughts:

In Infinite Crisis it is very important to remember the Strengths of your Support Champions. Don’t try to force too much early on if your Champion does not offer a lot of Early Game Strength. Try to understand your Marksman’s Champion's Strengths (e.g. Green Arrow’s Early Game damage) and make your choice considering that. And also remember that “taking Lasthits” is not a problem at all as it is split amongst your lane Partner in same proportions anyways.

If you have any more questions, feel free to add me on the European Servers, my Protector Name is dignitas_Darky- (yes, with the minus, don’t ask :D) and remember to have fun ! :)
