CS2: How To Clutch Rounds

There is nothing as thrilling as clutching a round in CS2. Here is how you can start clutching more rounds

There is nothing more adrenaline-filling than clutching a round that you were going to lose. When the odds are stacked against you but you somehow managed to pull through and snatch the round from the enemy’s hand, and your teammates are going crazy over the voice chat—that’s what a CS2 clutch is.

But, not everyone can clutch, it’s a skill and it takes time to learn it. When you are in 1v2 or 1v3 situation, it’s hard to stay calm and make the right decisions. But, it’s something you can learn and this guide is all about that.

Here is how you can start clutching more rounds and become a legend among your friends.

1. Stay Calm

Yes, it’s an obvious statement and it’s easier said than done. But, it’s the most important requirement of being able to clutch a round. When you are in an unfair situation, you don’t have room for mistakes, and staying calm prevents you from making a lot of mistakes.

Secondly, an important part of clutching a round is making the right decisions. When to take a fight? When to go for the defuse? Should you push the angle, or should you wait? All of these small choices end up deciding the round. So, the first step is to stay calm.

And, the best way to do that (in my experience) is to accept the fact that you have lost the round, and anything you are doing from that point on is just maximizing the round. When you don’t have the fear of losing, you will automatically become calm and make the right decisions.

2. Think Of A Plan

The next step is to start thinking of a plan or strategy. Now, there is no set blueprint or template that I can give you that will help you clutch rounds. It’s more or less situational. You don’t need to have an extensive strategy set in your mind. Generally, you should have an idea on how you are planning to fight the enemy.

For instance, if it’s a 2v1 and you're fighting to defuse the bomb, your first plan should be to find where the enemies are. Then, how can you eliminate them, etc?

3. Information Is Key

The other thing you should focus on is getting information on the enemy. Where they are/were and how you can use that to your advantage. It’s much easier to retake a site if you have a general idea where the enemies are. Your teammates can help you here, so always ask if they have any information.

4. Use The Enemy’s Overconfidence Against Them

When the enemies are up players, there is a high chance they are overconfident. They know they have a high chance of winning. But that also means they are more prone to making mistakes. So, just be patient.

There is a high chance the enemies will try to overpeek you, or make noise running around the map. All you need to do is punish them.

Plus, when you start taking down the enemy team, the rest of them will start to get nervous. The idea of a winning round slipping through their hands makes them tense. This is one of the biggest reasons why clutches happen. So, try to look for enemy mistakes and punish them when needed.

5. Learn How To Fight Multiple Enemies

This is a more mechanical tip. Of course, in order to clutch a round, you need to be decent at aiming and movement. You just don’t have the freedom to miss shots.

When fighting multiple enemies, your main focus should be to force a series of 1v1s. It’s nearly impossible to win a gunfight if two people are shooting at you. Use the map and its angles to your advantage and always isolate enemies. This instantly breaks a 1v3 (for example) into three 1v1s.

6. Trust Your Instincts

The last tip is to just learn to trust your instincts. When you are in a clutch situation, and it starts going your way, you automatically get into a zone. Your shots connect, and you're putting down enemies left and right. If your gut tells you to be aggressive, be aggressive. Ultimately, you pretty much have nothing to lose.

Bonus Tip

If your team is loud and doesn’t really give you information, it’s a good idea to mute them. You can set up a bind for that easily. It becomes much easier to clutch a round if you don’t have teammates backseating you from the voice chat. This is especially the case in lower ranks and when you are solo queuing.

Conclusion

These tips should help you to clutch more rounds, but not every round is winnable. There is a reason CS2 has a numbers advantage; good teams know how to win when they have more players alive.

So, despite your hardest efforts, you are going to lose rounds too. Truth be told, it is quite difficult to clutch rounds. But you do start to get better at it with time.
