Here is how to win those nearly impossible eco rounds in CS2—from tips to strategies, here is everything you need to know.
The economy is a vital piece of the Counterstrike checkboard. It’s one of the match-deciding factors in CS2. More often than not, the team that manages its economy well has a higher chance of winning the match. From deciding when to buy or not, to saving up for crucial rounds, all of this is part of managing your economy in CS2.
And a crucial part of CS2’s economy is eco rounds. The rounds where you don’t buy anything are to have a better chance of winning the next round. Eco rounds are often overlooked as just wasted rounds, where you are guaranteed to lose. But that’s not the case; these rounds are very important, and you can win them. So, here are how you can win eco rounds and flip the game in your favor.

When you are on eco, you basically have nothing. Meaning, you have nothing to lose. You can pretty much try any absurd strategies you want. Often, the enemy team is expecting an easy round since you don’t have guns. They basically underestimate you, which you can take advantage of.
Instead of rushing B, try out a crazy strategy. Try fakes, aggressive space control, or sneaky flanks—just try anything that you normally wouldn’t in a round. More often than not, you will win because the enemy team is overconfident.
No matter what strategy you go for, the fact of the matter is that you are at an inferior gun. This means that 1v1s are likely to end in your favor. So, you have to play around with that. For instance, instead of solo clearing Palace on Mirage, push with three teammates. Sure, it’s excessive, but one kill is what it takes to secure a rifle and massively increase your chances of winning. Always try to push the enemy with numbers.
Pure aggression is another strategy you can try. If you feel that the other team usually plays passively, you can try an aggressive approach. Nobody expects someone with pistols to be aggressive. So, on eco rounds, you can try taking aggressive control.
For example, on Inferno with one smoke, you can take Mid Control and push towards the site very aggressively. Of course, this tactic is very risky as opponents can gun you down. But sometimes it can be your trump card.
When you decided to eco, it was already decided that you are probably going to lose this round. But there is still damage you can do even after losing the round! In close matches, the economy is usually quite close. If you can manage to drop some of their guns, it can mess up their economy. This can be used to your advantage next round when you have the buy.
You can also target their AWPer, as losing an AWP is huge economic damage. Teams usually spend a couple of rounds to save up for an AWP. In short, if you can’t win the round, go for kills and damage their economy.

Again, if the enemy team is very strong and you see that you have low chances of winning, then try to utilize the eco round as much as you can. Defusing/Planting the bomb gives you $300 regardless of whether you win or lose the round. Sure, that sounds little, but that $300 could mean extra utility, or full Kevlar.
You don’t even need to win; if you can defuse/plant the bomb, you're already benefiting from that $300. Pair this with the last tip of causing economic damage to the other team, and you will quickly take the lead in the economic war between the two teams.
Eco usually means don’t buy anything. However, I’d still recommend that at least some of your teammates buy utilities. You never know how round-changing a flash, smoke, Molly, or nade can be.
They aren’t even that expensive. Sure, you might have to go for half kevlar next round, but if utilities increase your chances of winning the round, then why not go for it?
Economy is very important in CS2, and the higher you are in the ranked ladder, the more the teams are careful with their economy. The Eco Round is a crucial part of managing the economy in CS2. Most of the time, these rounds are very difficult to win. These tips will help you get more out of your eco rounds. Even if you lose, you should try to extract as much value as you can out of that round.
Not to mention, if you win the eco round, that round could give you the momentum to take the game in the end. That’s how important eco rounds are.
