Duos of the Bot Lane

There are certain champions in the game that compliment each others playstyle, let's take a look at them!

The bot lane has a lot of variation and there are a lot of lane matchups that you can encounter. Lucky for us bot mains, there are supports and ADCs that work well together and have kits that compliment each other. Whether it’s through their passives, abilities or overall style, we can take advantage of this and win the lane. Also keep in mind that most supports will work well but I will be talking about how these pairing compliment a certain playstyle or weakness/strength.

Vayne and Janna are one of the more common support and ADC combinations I see. In solo queue, if a Vayne is picked, a Janna is more than likely to be picked to go with it. At first it’s hard to understand why Vayne and Janna work because of Janna’s lack of playmaking and Vayne as a hyper carry. But the reason is the early game. At level 2, Vayne does not have many options and may not be able to win a 2v2. If a Leona were to stun Vayne, it’s a kill. With Janna, she is able to peel for Vayne with her Q (Howling Gale) and protect with her E (Eye of the storm). In the late game, Vayne is a force to be reckoned with, she is an incredible hypercarry and can set up plays with her E (Condemn). Janna is great to disengage and for protecting the carry.

The next pairing I love is Lucian and Braum. In my eyes, Braum is already an incredible support. He provides CC and protects the ADC well. If you aren’t familiar with Braum’s passive, it is if Braum’s basic attacks and Q (Winter's Bite) each apply Concussive Blows to his target for 4 seconds, stacking up to 4 times. Once the first stack has been applied, any allied champion's basic attack on the target generates an additional stack. And if you don’t know Lucian’s passive, it is after using an ability, Lucian's next basic attack within 3 seconds shoots twice, dealing AD physical damage on the second shot, which also applies on-hit effects and can critically strike, with its critical damage halved against champions and monsters. Are the dots connecting? Braum needs 4 stacks for his stun, and Lucian can provide 2 auto attacks quickly. In an ideal situation, Braum would Q and auto attack with Lucian getting his double shot off. Instant stun!

If you’re the type of player that loves to save your teammates, Kalista and Thresh were made for you. Besides saving, there is a lot of room for playmaking. Thresh has 2 CC abilities and can be chained up after a Kalista ult. Kalista can ult (Fate’s Call) Thresh into the enemy, Thresh will then knock them up, throw his anyone of his abilities to CC the enemy. This is also a relatively safe combination, as they can save each other. Kalista saves Thresh with her ult, Thresh saves Kalista with W (Dark Passage). Kalista also works well with Alistar. This lane is very similar to Thresh but there is more potential in playmaking. With the Kalista ult, Alistar does not have to waste his W (Headbutt) before delivering a devastating Q (Pulverize) knockup. This allows you to use the W (Headbutt) to reposition an enemy into your team instead of having to use your (Pulverize) to engage with.

A newer combination I have been playing with is Jhin and Morgana. Morgana has been a long time favorite of mine because of her safe CC. Her Q (Dark Binding) is very similar to Jhin’s W (Deadly Flourish) and I think if you can stack these two on top of each other, you can bully this lane hard. The reason this works so well is because Jhin is an ADC without an escape and Morgana’s E (Black Shield) helps a lot when dueling in the lane. Chaining both Morgana’s Q and Jhin’s W can root/bind a champion for up to 4.75 seconds which should result in a summoner spell or kill! CC is one of my favorite things and being able to root an immobile enemy is great to secure a kill.

I understand there is a bit of a love/hate relationship towards poke lanes but they can be incredibly strong and snowball quickly. Being able to poke your enemies away to CS and lowering their health bars can give you a dominance in the lane. If this is your style, Ezreal and Sona would be a fun lane for you. Ezreal’s poke is very strong and his Q (Mystic Shot) paired with Sona’s empowered auto attack passive, there is a lot of poke ability. Also the wombo combo is real because of Sona’s ult (Crescendo) and Ezreal’s ult (Trueshot Barrage). Sona can ult the opponent which will give Ezreal a free target to ult.

Now for some cheese, my favorite cheese bot lane are the Snare Sisters. The Snare Sisters are Lux and Morgana. I love this lane if my own team has a large AD focus and you need your AP. Not only can it stomp the lane it is also ver fun! Lux and Morgana both have similar Q where they throw out a binding or snare. Morgana’s bind last for up to 3 seconds while Lux’s is 2. If you can stack both snare and binding, you are able to throw out your abilities. This is a easy set up for Lux’s Ult and E (Lucent Singularity) and for Morgana’s W (Tormented Soil). Overall, this lane is very fun and you will learn your skill shots!

Being in the bot lane, there is a lot of pressure. You have to depend on your counterpart and having similar play styles helps a lot.Your support/ADC should compliment your kit and hopefully after reading this, you can think of more duo pairs! Hope you find your duo and good luck on the Rift!
