Ezreal, The Prodigal Explorer - A Beginner Blue Ezreal Build Guide (Patch 9.11)

In this guide we will explore the build path in patch 9.11 for Blue Ezreal

Blue Ezreal has stood the test of time. This build has been around since Season 2 of League of Legends and we are now in Season 9 and Blue Ezreal is still going strong. In this guide, we will explore why Blue Ezreal's patch 9.11 build is so strong and fun to play.

Runes

Under the Inspiration tree you will choose Kleptomancy, which is Ezrael's bread and butter.Using Kleptomancy will give you the best results with Ezreal because he is a caster marksman and Kleptomancy's passive is that after using an ability, your next two basic attacks that hit within 10 seconds are enchanted. If the attack is used against a champion, you gain 5 Gold. Occasionally, you will gain a consumable item instead. If you gain a consumable item while your inventory is full, the consumable will instead be immediately consumed. The cooldown for this passive is 2 seconds. Essentially, you can get as many items as long as there is enough room. These items will give you Health Potions, Total Biscuits of Everlasting Will, Wards, Stacks of Gold, and Elixirs that will help you throughout the game, especially during the laning phase.

The next rune in the tree you take is Magical Footwear, which will make it it easier to transition into boots during the early game. You are given these boots at 12 minutes (-45 seconds per takedown). Additionally, your boots gain an additional 10 movement speed and makes your boots upgrade even cheaper. Next, you take Biscuit Delivery. This gives you Total Biscuits of Everlasting Will at 3:00, 6:00, 9:00 and 12:00 minutes in the game, giving you sustain throughout the laning phase of the game. finally, you will take Cosmic Insight, which gives you 5% cooldown reduction, increases the cooldown reduction cap to 45%, and also gives you 5% cooldown reduction for Summoner Spells and items. Ezreal is a champion that relies on cooldown reduction to put out damage in the game, so raising the cooldown reduction cap to 45% is a huge help.

Items

The first items you want to get is a Doran's Blade and a Health Potion. The Blade should always be your starting item because it gives you 80 health, 8 attack damage, and 3% life steal. This is the standard for most AD Carries in the game. You can start Doran's Shield if you think you will take a lot of damage, but you may face issues in farming.

Ezreal's build path has been the same for many years. The core items being Manamune and Iceborn Gauntlet. The first item that should be built is Tear of the Goddess. Tear of the Goddess is one of the most important items to start because you need to stack it throughout the early game. Tear of the Goddess gives you 250 mana and grants a charge every 4 seconds, up to 3 charges when abilities are used. Running out of mana won't allow you to stack your tear, or even use abilities in general in lane, so once your Tear is built, try to pace yourself and restrain yourself to using your Q. A good time to complete your Tear of the Goddess is usually by the 20 minute mark.

Next, you can either go Shee, or finish up your Manamune. Most pro players go Sheen because it gives more power to your Mystic Shot. The Sheen proc does a lot of damage compared to Manamune. It also leads into your Iceborn Guantlet, which is a power spike for Ezreal when finished. I usually go Manamune first because it makes it easier to stack. Instead of using abilities, Manamune allows you to stack your Tear of the Goddess with auto attacks. When beginning to play Ezreal, I believe that this is the way to go.

After completing your Manamune, it's time for you to complete your Iceborn Guantlet. This is a power spike for Ezreal. Iceborn Guantlet gives you some aspects from Sheen and Glacial Shroud. In total, it gives you 65 armor, 20% cooldown reduction, and 500 mana. The proc of Iceborn Guantlet deals an additional 100% physical damage and creates an icy zone around the target hit. This makes Ezreal's Mystic Shot stronger and it will make it easier to kite when fighting. It's so much fun to use because of the freedom it gives. The 500 mana allows you to use abilities without a care in the world. It also helps because the icy zone slows your opponents. Slowing them can help your team out with their own skill shots. Poking the enemy team with Iceborn Guantlet makes the item so great for Ezreal.

At this point of the game you should have your Manamune, Iceborn Guantlet, and Magical Footwear completed. You are still going to have to complete your boots. The reason I choose Sorcerer's Boots is for pure damage. Ezreal's W, E, and R all do magic damage, and Sorcerer's Shoes are an efficient way to get some magic penetration into your build. Some people want the cooldown reduction at 40-45%, but I would rather have the damage as the first couple of abilities you hit in the fight really count.

The third and fourth item you want to buy are Hextech Gunblade and Luden's Echo. I like to buy Hextech Gunblade because it resembles Blade of the Ruin King. Hextech Gunblade has an active which instantly deals 175 - 253 (based on level) (0 AP) magic damage and slows the enemy for 40% for 2 seconds. Hextech Gunblade is much stronger because it also gives 80 ability power and 40 attack damage. All around, this is a great item for Ezreal. Luden Echo's is for poke. Luden's Echo gives you 600 mana, 90 ability power, and 10% cooldown reduction. At 100 charges, the next instance of ability damage you deal will expend all charges to deal 100 (+10% AP) bonus magic damage to the first enemy hit and to 3 nearby enemies. During late game sieges and defends, this item is essential. It allows you to poke out the enemy because the Luden's Echo proc spreads damage throughout the other team. It packs quite a punch and you will love this item if you pick it up.

The last item you want to purchase is Guardian Angel. This is a pure defensive item that allows you to have multiple lives. One of the components is Stopwatch, which is really important. During a late game teamfight, this item can really save you. If any assassin tries to assassinate you, you can always use Stopwatch which will most likely save you.

Conclusion

The Blue Ezreal build has always been one of my favorites. It gives Ezreal a lot of damage and enough mana to make aggressive plays throughout the game. I hope you will try out this build as this is one of the most popular builds at the moment. Oh, and don't forget to stack your Tear of the Goddess! Go out there and have fun playing Ezreal!
