Fortnite BR: How To Clutch Solo Squad Situations
Being at a numbers disadvantage doesn't always mean inevitable defeat. With a few tricks, anyone can clutch out an underdog victory.

The only thing more fun in Fortnite BR than getting stomped in solos is gathering a group of like-minded individuals together to get stomped in squads. We've all been in situations where you and your squadmates drop and maybe one of you, or everyone besides you, gets picked off. Whether you're playing with your friends, or playing with randoms to grind out challenges, it can get pretty frustrating to lose someone from your squad so early. This being said, all hope is not lost. Never give up on a game. With strong decision-making, most games are winnable in some way.
3v4
Losing one person during the drop isn't really the end of the world. This is especially true if you dropped somewhere extremely popular. Losing one person does suck but taking out a handful of squads and obtaining a mountain of loot is worthy trade-off. Three-man squads are played, for the most part, exactly like four-man squads. You are down a person, so you should avoid putting yourself in sketchy situations where you may get pinched by two different squads at once. In a squad on squad fight though, even with a man disadvantage, as long as you play smart and don't overextend, fights can playout without you ever really feeling the brunt of being a person down. Fights more or less ride on whether the three person squad has better loot and more materials than the four person squad.
2v4
Being down two players is when things start getting a little hairy. Even if you and your buddy are well-equipped, it won't beat the sheer amount of DPS that four players can pump out. In situations like this, whether you like it or not, your hopes of victory rely on your defensive play. When at a significant man disadvantage it is, quite frankly, too risky to play offensively. With only one person watching your back, even the smallest mistakes can lead to huge punishes. Moreover, the return on investment when playing offensively is too small when no matter what loot you get, your DPS is still disproportionately weak. A times like this it's best to hang around the outskirts of the map. You and your partner should try to creep into the circle as slowly as possible, avoiding direct confrontation. Like a Vulture, you should take your time can carefully watch potential prey. Never engaging, but waiting for the perfect opportunity to pick up the scraps. After two teams have gone blow for blow, swoop in for some easy kills while they're weak. It's not the most honorable way to play, but victory is victory.
1v4
So, your entire team is dead, huh? Regardless of if this happens early on in the game or later into the game, this is quite the dire situation. For the most part, being an estranged solo player is a death sentence. There are games where it could, in a literal sense, be impossible for you to win. In the exact opposite manner however, there could be games where you are totally capable of winning. In 1v4 scenarios, the goal is to play the game out as methodically as possible. You lack the fire power, capabilities, and probably even skills to reliably 1v4 at a moment's notice. Imagine you're a field mouse. You lack the power to starts fights but your relative small size (squad size) means you can skirt by fights or buildings going unnoticed. The goal in a 1v4 is to get to the middle of the circle as quickly and quietly as possible. If you've survived to the point where the circle is of a moderately small size with a moderately small number of players, you have two options of how to proceed: 1) Build the world's largest base and hope that you can defend it or 2) Hide out under someone else's huge base and hope that during a fight you can wreak havoc as a third party. Building a base right in the middle of a circle can work out, but it hopes too much on the fact that there is no full squads left in the game to engage on you. You will most likely find more success as a creeping third party pitching a camp under someone's base. The key to make this strategy work is timing - perfect timing. When you choose to attack is the difference between winning and losing. If you attack too early, even with the element of surprise, you won't suddenly become a threat. You will still struggle engaging and will more or less just be a small nuisance to the two larger teams fighting. If you attack too late, the remaining players will be prepared enough to swiftly end your short-lived offense. The perfect time to attack is right before the end of a fight. When the remaining players are in a heated Shotgun fight, when the pressure from their downed teams is bleeding from their nerves, this is when you can rush in and throw everyone off of their rhythm. Hopefully you'll have just enough in you to finish the job.
Unless you've ascended to a status of Fortnite godhood, clutching out games will always be a struggle. Some games you'll try your hardest, but something out of your control goes wrong and you lose. Some games you'll try your hardest and everything will go right allowing you to win. Clutching out games is mixture of three parts knowledge, instinct, and luck. So play smart, trust your gut when it comes time to get things done and... well... try to get lucky as well!
