In this gamer blog, lets talk about gaming and what it means to the future generations yet to be on this planet.
So why could it be so important to understand gaming? The reason why is that gaming is the next generation! This might seem silly but consider how many kids are on computers from a young age now days?
Lets take a step forward and ask you how many jobs include computers now? So gaming could be a very important aspect of our life that we all made need to know and understand.
What if I'm not a gamer?
Its ok if you aren't a gamer but you should try to understand many things about gamers. Gamers are very unique and the gaming scene might as well be its own culture. If you go to another country, you are not going to expect those natives to adjust to your normal life style, are you? No. Same goes with gamers. So how is being a gamer so much different then someone who isn't a gamer?
Gamers will end up spending at least 4 hours a day on the pc, just enjoying games and trying to forget a bad day or even just relax after a long day. None-gamers will end up probably reading a book, cleaning or something else. However, this does NOT mean that gamers are unproductive. Actually quite the opposite. Gamers are well known for their ability to multitask. Many gamers are also able to respond to a situation very fast with a well a pretty good plan of action. In some cases, gamers may have a much faster reaction time then those who do not game.
Now there are some down sides to being a gamer, as well as many up sides. So lets review a few of the negatives first. A casual gamer may have few to little negative effects from gaming but may also receive few to none of the benefits as well. A hard core gamer though will end up losing sleep because they lost track of time or got addicted to the game they are playing. While losing sleep isn't good, nor is being addicted to a game, it is much better than being addicted to drugs. ^^ Another thing a hard core gamer might give up is a huge social life.
Casual gamers may give up a little sleep or a little extra time out of their social life, but for a hard core gamer, their social life is in the gamer. The hard core gamer, often times, will do nothing more then live, breathe and drink the game they are most involved in. This pushes them to have the desire and the want, almost the need to be good at the game. The hard core gamer can also be very snappish if disturbed during a very intense game.
Now lets go onto the bonuses of being a hard core gamer. Often times the ability to multitask improves and the person is able to do more then someone who does not game. There is also the ability to respond quickly. Other good things to being a hard core gamer, is that when a gamer gets mad, they take it into a game. This means less violence out of the game. Maybe this should be used in therapy for kids who have anger problems?
Wait that might be to much, unless they are into first person shooters. ^^ Another bonus to being a hard core gamer, is that often times you will see the gamers come together for a cause they believe in, though this has been seen outside of gaming as well. Gaming has allowed new communication to other locations or between certain countries that was once unheard of or thought to be almost impossible.
So what is the gaming scene like?
Well the gaming scene is much like any culture. You have your formal speech and your informal speech. Allow me to break this down further, the formal is the polite version of the way people speak in game and to their opponent. While the informal will end up being the trash talk and the rude words used towards each other in a match.
Gamers also have some words of their own that they may end up using in every day talk. Examples: "GG" which means "Good Game" or "lol" or even "lawl" which basically mean that's funny or they are laughing about something, such as a situation described. Like any culture they have their own morals and they believe there is a certain way a member in the community should act and shouldn't act. A great example of this is when a player lacks to say "GG" at the end of a match, they are then considered rude. This culture also has their own famous and infamous known figures.
Another thing to remember when dealing with gamers, is avoid any rude or terrible jokes towards gamers, they way they look or even a game they love. This is one of the fastest ways to make a hard core gamer mad. That is almost like saying a bad joke towards someone's religion; its not something you want to do.
One of the great things about gamers though is their ability to come together, despite language barriers and distance. What do I mean by this? I mean they come together to make a difference in each others lives and the lives of complete strangers they have never met, by supporting, participating or helping out with charity events.
In the past years, gamers have been thought of as "lazy", "geeky", "dweeb", "nerd" or even "fat" people who have no job, no life and aren't very bright. What is thought of a female gamer is just as bad, if not worse in some cases. However, this is no longer the case. Millions of people are gamers now days and hundreds if not thousands, every year are showing the world who we are and just how wonderful we are. So if you are not a gamer or aren't that interested in gamers, at least be honest, straight forward and polite. At least be polite, no matter what when dealing with a gamer, unless they are a close friend of yours.
So what could gaming possibly have to do with tomorrow's generation?
The gamers of today's world will lay a huge foundation for tomorrow's generation in what they have achieved and what is expected out of gamers in the future. Games are already being developed to help children develop and learn at a very young age. There are educational games, memory games and even training games.
These training games can be everything to sitting in a booth with nothing but monitors around you and it feels like your actually driving a car, thus helping you learn how to drive, off the actual road to even learning how to fly. This is not the limit though of where gaming's potential ends. One day in the future we may see planes and tanks controlled remotely from a pc scene and handed to a gamer to do their job and win a fight. Though lets hope war or fighting never gets that bad!
What if I'm not a gamer and I want to become one?
Well if you want to become a gamer, you must first look for a game that appeals to you. Often times you first major game will be one your friends might be already playing. However if they are not gamers, then look online or even at like GameStop. They end up doing a lot of reviews and you might find a game you like. Once you picked a game you want to try, give it at least an hour a day for about 2-3 days a week, to get into it.
If there are friends of yours who play a video game already, just ask them questions or even ask the community for the game you are interested in. Often times you will find the good apples and the bad apples everywhere, thankfully for the gaming community, there are many great and wonderful people willing to help new players out.
So basically, if you aren't a gamer already try to be respectful towards those who are. Gaming has become a culture of its very own. If you want to get into gaming, you must first find a game you are interested and go from there. Gamers have a lot more good to offer this world then people give them credit for and they have the ability to literally shape tomorrow's world. Further more, support them as you would support anyone who plays a sport.
A sport is defined as "An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment", however this does not mean that E-Sports (Electronic Sports) are any less than that of a normal sport. So try to be polite to gamers who say they are into E-Sports because they do have to physically exert themselves in ways other sports players don't need to., including mentally.
