Good duo queue positions and how to use them in CS:GO

Good duo queue positions, using defenders advantage and what it means in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

This article will cover some locations on Dust 2 and one on Inferno. It also clarifies what defender's advantage is. Defender's advantage means positioning yourself with a teammate in a way that you face the upcoming enemies together instead of giving them the upper hand by catching you out of position alone. There are quite a few good locations where you can use duo queuing and gain an advantage with it. But do remember that this means you need to trust your teammate completely as you're putting your life completely in your teammate's hands. Basically this article will cover how to stop rushes, how to hold certain chokepoints with your teammate and how to shut down enemies push/strategy before they get to execute them.

Example of gaining advantage on Dust 2 Pit area.

Basically what we did was we aligned ourselves on top of each other on two different platforms of different height to make the enemy guess which one to shoot first. While he's processing which one to shoot we took advantage of the split second it takes for him to react and shot him down. And yes, it really is that simple to get enemies confused and second guess which target to shoot. In the end you possibly win the round. If this were to be a 5v2 situation where enemies rushed us down it would be the best way to hold the pit-area because enemies have only one entrance and we're holding the crucial chokepoint. They can see my teammate's head on pit and me completely on the pit catwalk and we both can see them completely all the time. Another way of exploiting defender's advantage is the crossfire-setup. Crossfire-setup means you position yourself with your teammate in a way that your crosshairs meet in a single chokepoint while you're holding the angle from two completely different locations.

Another example, this time holding B-Site on Dust 2

In this one I had a teammate on platform giving me covering fire. I was in front of the smoke listening for any hints that the enemies possibly would be rushing to b-site. After all, we knew their economy was bad enough for the enemies so they would have to be on an eco-round. I got the soundcue, informed my teammate and we both started to shoot at the smoke. It worked out great for us. Basically how to exploit the defender's advantage to its fullest means you will have to trust your teammate. You also will have to be able to create either a crossfire-setup or align yourself with your teammate so you're horizontally at the same position but vertically at different height. In this scenario we were on the same position horizontally but he was vertically above me and could shoot the enemies over my head.

So the pros and cons about using defender's advantage and duo queuing? Let's start with the pros. You get to hold a certain chokepoint with your teammate, stopping enemies from executing a strategy or even hold down rushes together. It's amazing how a certain amount of faith in your teammate can work wonders. But it isn't always the right play, even though it's a good one. The cons include having to commit two persons into a same position whereas enemies could be coming from a completely different location and the round would be over before you even make it to the fighting scene. Sometimes if you make a mistake you might shoot your own teammate down. It takes time, good game-sense and co-operation with your team to make this play work, knowing when to execute it and knowing with whom you really benefit from using it. If you try it with a random teammate on a match they might even call you a "baiter" and act mentally intrusive but try to remain calm and explain what strategy it is that you're trying to execute. Who knows - it might even change their mind. Preferably try to explain it to your teammate before you try to execute it thus ensuring that the team spirit stays as good as it can be. And just a reminder - if you find yourself struggling to pull this strategy off: it doesn't suit everyone. If you can't execute it to its fullest you don't have to force it. Everyone has their own personal style. This guide is for those who seek perfect teamplay.

Just remember you can use this strategy with more than two people but finding locations that help gain advantage will be harder. Cooperation will also be harder and executing it perfectly will turn out problematic. One example that comes to mind is Cobblestone B-Site where you can hold long-platform from dropzone, bombsite and chicken coop.

That's all for now. Hope you enjoyed reading and find this article useful. Happy practising!
