HotS: A Guide To Global Mobility

In Heroes of the Storm, there are some heroes that are able to move around the whole map in a few seconds. Why can it be an advantage?<

Who can move around quickly without mount?

All Heroes are able to mount in order to increase their speed by 40% and reach a point in a map faster. But some Heroes have a special way in order to reach their destination in particular: Abathur, Brightwing, Dehaka and Falstad. Any of them has a particular way to move but what associate them is the fact that they have global mobility. This ability helps them to be more effective throughout the game.

Abathur and the Push

Abathur can use Deep Tunnel, which allows him to quickly tunnel to a visible location with a 30 seconds cooldown. This helps Abathur to properly spawn locusts where they're more useful and it can also be used as a fairly quick escape. There are some talents which synergize well with Abathur's mobility:

  •  Ballitospores: Increases Toxic Nest's range to global and increases duration by 20%. Since Abathur can move to visible location and mines provide visibility, this talent allows him to move globally.
  •  Locust Brood: Activate to spawn 3 Locusts at a nearby location. Locusts have a limited lifespan, so spawning them at the right location is vital in order to get full effectiveness out of them.
  •  Locust Nest: Activate to create a nest that periodically spawns Locusts. Only one Locust Nest can be active at a time. Putting the nest in the proper location can fake Abathur's position or, if left undisturbed, the locusts spawned from the nest can actually produce a very strong push.

There was a particular strategy that allowed Abathur to attack from behind the enemy structures (backdoor), tunneling behind a fort, spawning locusts and then hearthing. The developer however said that they will try to prevent this strategy since it was quite hard to counter.

Abathur's Deep Tunnel

So Abathur's advantage from Deep Tunnel is mainly for pushing and split pushing effectively.

Brightwing's Teleport

Brightwing can teleport to an allied Hero with Phase Shift which has a 45 seconds cooldown. Since her healing comes from Soothing Mist (Brightwing heals nearby allied Heroes for 211 (100 + 4% per level) every 4 seconds), she needs to be close to her allies and Phase Shift allows her to get to allies that need her.

Brightwing's teleport

An aspect that underlines the importance of Brightwing's teleport is the possibility to make a talent build around Phase Shift with levels 1, 4 and 7:

  •  Hyper Shift: Every time you heal a Hero with Soothing Mist, reduce the cooldown of Phase Shift by 2 seconds.
  •  Peekaboo!: Phase Shifting to an ally reveals a large area around them and all enemies in it for 6 seconds.
  •  Phase Shield: After finishing the teleport, the target of your Phase Shift gains a 548 point Shield for 20 seconds.

Besides the healing factor, the teleport is really useful in case of objective's spawning, expecially during early and mid game. Instead of moving to the objective immediately, Brightwing can stay in one lane and collect experience for her team and split pushing until the moment the objective appears, since it is you can simply teleport to an ally there.

"Let's Fly"

Falstad uses Flight in order to fly a great distance throughout the map. The cooldown is 45 seconds and the channeling time is 2.5 seconds. Using this ability properly is really what define a good Falstad player from an average one.

Flight can be used in order to rotate, gank and even as an escape in bad situations as you can see in the following video:

Moreover, Falstad can position himself for a team fight or in order to use  Mighty Gust to its full potential as one of the most iconic Heroic abilities in Heroes of the Storm, allowing him to push enemy Heroes away and slow them for a 5 seconds. Also Falstad has a talent about the travel ability at level 20 that is  Epic Mount. It reduces the cooldown, the casting time and increases the speed of his Flight.

A negative aspect of Falstad is that his landing spot is visible to everyone, including enemies, so they can predict his intentions and counter properly.

Dehaka, the Stalker

Dehaka, the Primal Zerg, has global mobility thanks to its Brushstalker which allows him to burrow to any bush or vent around the Battleground. This ability has a 40 seconds cooldown. Dehaka can be really sneaky, coming out from a bush when you're expecting to be alone and it can also be used as a cut off during an enemy retreat, with the help of an ability like Drag.

Dehaka's Brushstalker

As the above, he can be left behind to farm before an objective because he can join the battle immediately and, of course, the movement ability can be used as an escape as well.

The only talent for Brushstalker is  Ferocious Stalker that increases Movement Speed after emerging for 3 seconds.

Global Mobility Is Good, Isn't It?

Having the ability to move around the Battleground very fast seems like a great advantage and it can be. But it could be also a curse instead of a blessing. In fact, due to the long cooldown and the inability to mount, you have to consider that they will be "stuck" until the ability is up again. Furthermore, keep in mind that there's always a casting time, so if you're trying to escape, enemy who can stun or knockback will stop the Hero.
