How the SG 553/AUG Can Help You Escape the Low Ranks In CS2
The SG 553/AUG are very underrated weapons, and here is how they can help you rank up.
The SG 553/AUG are very underrated weapons, and here is how they can help you rank up.
When it comes to low-rank CS2 games, most rounds aren’t won by crisp aim or perfect sprays. It’s usually about setting up the right fight. That’s where the SG 553 and AUG come in. They aren’t miracle guns, but if you use them right, they make it so much easier to overcome all the usual mistakes you see at such ELO. Think of all those wide peeks, diabolical crosshair placements, and the infamous spray and pray — these rifles eat those up.
Both the SG 553 (for T-side) and the AUG (for CT-side) are scoped rifles that give exceptional first-shot accuracy. You can just hold your angles, wait for someone to make a mistake, and pick them off.
So, if you’re tired of losing to sloppy plays, these rifles give you an easy way to start winning more fights and climb out of the lower ELO hell.
The SG 553 and the AUG both come equipped with a 3x scope, and that changes everything — offering laser-like first-shot accuracy. The SG553 goes for about $3,000 and has 100% armor penetration, the highest among rifles in CS2, while the AUG costs slightly more, around $3,300, with slightly lower penetration of 90%. However, it compensates for that with better accuracy and a quicker fire rate. Both rifles excel at medium to long-range fights, where holding angles and precision tap shots are rewarded over mindless sprays.
That’s not all they reward, and if you play with a bit of patience, think one taps or short bursts instead of instinct sprays, you can punish almost anyone who peeks carelessly.
If you’re good at reading opponents, you’ll be able to convert their predictability into easy kills way more reliably than with no-scope rifles.

If you’re a player struggling to climb out of the lower ranks, you’ve probably run into a few common problems: your crosshair sits too low, you peek too aggressively, or you just hold down the spray as soon as you spot an enemy. The SG 553 and AUG really take advantage of these mistakes, becoming a real threat in low ranks.
They’re far more forgiving than other rifles. Even if your crosshair placement isn’t perfect, you can still land easy headshots thanks to their easy one-tap potential with quick-scoping.
Then there’s the scope itself. You get to control and hold long sightlines, which means enemies have to rotate or push on your terms. Most of the time in low ranks, they end up walking right into your crosshair.
These rifles make things less stressful. With the AK or M4, understanding spray control is a must if you want to win fights. However, with the SG and AUG, you can focus on positioning and snapping to targets for mid-range wins instead.
The scope mode (ADS) tightens the bullet spread significantly, unlike the AK or M4, which have no scope. This relief takes some pressure off you with less demanding spray control that helps you start turning rounds in your favor as an amateur player.

You’ll probably notice that CT-side weapons are intentionally weaker. They cost more than their T-side counterparts, have lower armor penetration, and the M4 cannot kill with a one-tap headshot. The reason is that CTs have an inherent advantage in defending instead of attacking. This is why both sides have specific weapon stats to balance the edge out.
Pros often steer clear of the SG 553 and AUG and prefer the AK and M4 more. This is mainly because of the higher price tags, slower handling times, and the necessity to ADS. The AK and M4 simply offer more versatility for aggressive plays, especially in top-tier level coordination. More so, these pros have probably spent countless hours mastering spray control for every bullet, and the players in low ranks are no comparison to them.
So, if you’re a low-rank player on the climb, trying to make up for gaps in aim or game sense, the SG 553 and AUG can serve as equalizers. These guns help you punish enemy mistakes more, while overcoming your own.
Even if your raw mechanics are weak. You can still turn a round on its head and start winning matches when you pair the SG/AUG with smart buys, team coordination, and the right utility.
