How to Open Vaults in Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2

Vaults can no longer be opened with keycards, it’s a bit different now in Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2. Here is how you can open vaults in Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2.

Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2 has introduced several new locations, improved mechanics, and rewarding secrets. As we saw in Chapter 4, some Vaults had been dropped across the map, which you can break into, steal legendary loot, and gain a significant advantage over your opponents to pave your way to a victory royale.

However, this time, accessing these Vaults differs from what we saw in past Fortnite seasons. There aren’t any Vault Keys obtainable to open them, so how exactly do you locate and access them? Find out below as we guide you through the process.

Where To Locate The Vaults In Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2

As mentioned, opening Vaults has changed significantly this season. But before we get to that, let’s first see where all the Vaults are in Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2. As of now, there are five Vaults in the game, four of which can be found at the following POIs.

Crime City
Lonewolf Lair
Seaport City
Masked Meadows

The only exception is the Train Vault; since the train moves around the map, its location is constantly changing. You can locate the train by opening your map and then intercept the train when it's near you.

While you can choose to go for any Vault, it is recommended to land near the one farthest from the Battle Bus as it has the chance to be the least contended. Vaults offer high-quality loot, so players do tend to contest them.

How To Open The Vaults

This time around, Vaults can only be opened by blowing them up. For that, we need thermite explosives, which can be found as loot from chests or sometimes the bank guards. You will easily come across Thermite, so no need to worry about it that much.

Once you have obtained thermite explosives, the next step is to place them on the Vault door. Make sure to do this after you have cleared the surrounding area of any opponents who might try to contest the Vault.

Just make sure to clear the surrounding area of all enemies. This way, you’ll be sure to prevent any third parties, as the Vault takes a while to open.

Another thing to keep in mind is that opening the Vault will set off the bank alarms, and guards will rush in to protect the Vault. It is important to note that nearby opponents will also be able to hear the bank alarms, which may draw them in.

As the thermite explosives break down the Vault door, it will start burning through four of the weaker spots in the Vault door, those spots will be visible, glowing red for the player.

All that’s left to do is wait for the burning to finish while you fight off the guards. Once the area is clear, you can potentially accelerate the process.

To do that, you can place additional thermite explosives on the weak spots or begin shooting the glowing red spots, breaking down the door considerably faster. A progress bar will appear on your screen to display the progress.

However, the fastest way to do that is by using the new Plasma Burst Laser weapon, which is lootable from the nearby duffle bags. Although there’s nothing to worry about if you fail to find it, the Vault doors will eventually break down once you’ve planted the thermite explosives.

All the POI Vaults can be opened this way, but the process for the training vault is a bit different. First, you have to disable the turrets, otherwise, they’ll destroy the thermites before they can blow up. To counter this, shoot the turrets and break them, then place thermites. Don't worry about carrying thermite explosives beforehand, as the turrets will drop three each.

The Exact Locations Of The Bank Vaults

All the Vaults are easy to find. Four of them are on POIs, and one of them is on the moving train. However, all of these POIs are quite large, and it can be hard to find the Vaults if you don’t know about them. With that said, here are the exact locations of all the vaults.

Masked Meadows

The Vault is found inside the bank southwest of the area. Head inside the bank and locate the Vault door behind the counter in front.

Crime City

This Vault is located inside the bank, southeastern of the area. Enter the bank and head to the first floor, where the Vault door can be spotted.

Lonewolf Lair

This Vault is located inside a huge mansion in the Lonewolf Lair. Head inside and go down to the basement, where the vault door is located.

Seaport City

This Vault is located in the northwest corner of the area where a bank is situated. Head inside the bank and find your way to the first floor, where the Vault door can be found.

Conclusion

While looting Vaults can be the key factor in winning the round, beware that it won’t be a piece of cake since other players in the lobby will also try to contest the Vaults for themselves.

However, it’s still worth it to go for them despite the high risk, as these Vaults offer rewards that can potentially win you the game. For instance, these Vaults give you Dillbits that you can trade at the Black Market for Mythic Weapons and boons. Both of which are quite strong in the meta.

In short, Vaults are a high-risk, high-reward option in the game. Try to get them if you can, and it will make the match much easier.
