How to Win in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 3

Nothing is sweeter than earning yourself the Victory Royale umbrella. But actually winning a game is easier said than done. This article will provide you with the exact steps needed to be the last man standing.

After reading this article, you will be prepared to finally start winning matches in Fortnite. This covers all the important aspects of Fortnite and will directly translate into your Fortnite skill. So, let’s get right into it, starting with warming up.

Warmup

A crucial but simple step that is missed by most players is to warm up your building, editing, and aiming before diving into a real game! This can be done by selecting a matchmaking gamemode like Realistic PvP (0563-9687-6084), Realistic 1v1s (7950-6306-4857), BHE FFA (8064-7152-2934), or a Freebuilding Map (0633-5010-2549). Even spending 10 minutes on any of these maps is a clear-cut way to having a massive advantage before even jumping off the battle bus.

Where to Land?

Selecting a landing spot is difficult; you could select one based on the design, or the name, or even choosing one at random! Picking a spot based on those characteristics is completely okay, but it is not the most effective way to win a game.

Let’s go over the best tips to find your perfect landing spot!

Avoid Hotdrops: These are locations on the map that tend to be highly contested. The first POI on the bus route is a hotdrop, with other popular spots being Rocky Reels, Tilted Towers, Rave Cave, Daily Bugle, and Reality Falls.

Farther POIs: POIs that are farther away from the bus route tend to be less contested. These are a good option if you are decent at fighting off-spawn. Sometimes, they are contested by 1-3 players, but most times you’ll be all alone.

Unnamed Drops: These are locations spread throughout the map that aren’t named. These can have some good loot, but they just require more time spent looting. They’re often not contested but can be if the drop is closer to the bus route.

Here’s an example of a bus route and what POIs would be considered hotdrops (red) and what POIs would be safer to land at (green).

Winning Loadout

To win a game of Fortnite, you need to know what weapons are better and how each weapon fits a certain playstyle. If you're a player that prefers to get up into your opponent's face, then prioritizing a Combat or Stinger SMG is recommended. Combining either SMG with a Striker Pump Shotgun or the Auto Shotgun leads to some deadly outcomes. On the contrary, if you prefer to play a more boxfight orientated playstyle, then utilizing the Striker Pump Shotgun and the new Hammer Assault Rifle would be recommended.

Looting isn’t as important this season as it is in other seasons. Thanks to Reality Saplings, you can quickly obtain Legendary weapons that will drastically improve your chances of winning. Make sure you place your Reality Seeds in your preferred landing spot and start growing some god-tier weapons!

After selecting your preferred weapons, you then have to think about the remaining slots. The player that carries the most heals is usually the one that ends up winning. You should aim to carry a form of fast heals like Minis, Splashes, Floppers, Slurpfish, or Shieldfish and slow heals like Bigs, Shield Kegs or Medmist. Carrying both fast heals and slow heals means that your loadout is completely balanced.

If you choose to run two weapons instead of three, then you’ll have an extra loadout slot to run anything you’d like! This slot is known as the utility slot; it can hold a third heal, movement items like the Grappler Gloves, or an off-meta weapon like the Sniper or Harpoon. This slot is completely up to you and can change each game. Test out what item you prefer until you find one that perfectly meets your playstyle.

Rotating and Positioning

The hardest part of Fortnite is the rotating and positioning. Knowing when to rotate and where to position is a skill that can be used to avoid unnecessary fighting and save your loot for the endgame. You will be learning the difference between Hotside and Deadside and how you can use this information to win games.

As we can see from the diagram above, the first zone has pulled towards the bottom right corner of the map. You have landed at Chonker’s Speedway and the zone is right next to you. The first zone being so close means that you can spend a longer time looting up and planning your rotation. If the first zone had pulled to the top left corner of the map, you would need to leave Chonker’s Speedway sooner in order to get into a good position for the next zone.

The yellow arrows on the map signify players that have to rotate into the zone. The Hotside is the side of zone that most players will have to rotate into. This means that half of the zone will be highly congested with players. Therefore, if you are positioning yourself correctly, you should be rotating on the Deadside of zone. Deadside is safer because the only teams you have to worry about are the teams that landed in drops inside the first zone.

Positioning is the most important aspect of a fight in Fortnite. If you are in an advantageous position before the fight even starts, you can use that to get some early damage on your opponent to easily finish them off later. After rotating to Deadside, you should look for a place of natural elevation that will make it difficult for an opponent to push you.

Fighting

The final section will cover the stressful, nerve-racking, and high action fights that will occur in every one of your matches. The goal is simple - to defeat your opponent as quickly as possible while taking the least amount of damage and in the shortest time possible. Sure, it sounds pretty easy, but in-game it is a whole different beast.

You should be positioned somewhere on Deadside on top of natural elevation. If you find yourself being pushed, you should utilize some high firepower weapons like either of the SMGs or the Hammer Assault Rifle. This way, you can get some early damage on your opponent that may deter them from fighting or put you in a position to play aggressively.

If your opponent backs off after first contact, they are either re-positioning to attack from a different angle or are using their heals. This is the best time for you to flip the switch and start playing aggressively. Your opponent has already shown their hand and has told you that they need to heal. Playing aggressive can cause them to panic and make a mistake to which you can capitalize on and therefore win the fight.

Conclusion

There we have it! Give it a few weeks and you can start Crown emoting on all the poor souls who haven’t read this article. Start Fortnite, put on your favorite skin, and use your new tips and tricks to start popping off!
