"I'll Stick With You!" - Top 5 In-Game Yuumi Tips

Learn the top 5 in-game Yuumi tips to improve your gameplay and claw your way up through the ranks!

Although having gone through some trials and tribulations through multiple buffs and nerfs since her release, Yuumi is currently considered one of the best supports in the game and remains at the top of most current support tier lists. Yuumi is one of the most unorthodox champions in League of Legends, and while generally being considered one of the "easiest" champions to play optimally, there are still tips and tricks you should know in order to play Yuumi at her full potential and climb the ranks. Here are the top 5 in-game tips for improving your Yuumi gameplay:

1. Avoid staying permanently attached to your Anchor (ADC/allies)

Yes, the vast majority of Yuumi's game plan revolves around staying attached to an ally in order to benefit her team and the ally in which she latches to, but her passive, Bop 'n' Block, is just as essential as all the other tools in her kit, especially during the early game/laning phase. Not only will you want to proc Bop 'n' Block as much as possible, you also will want to consider wave management and auto the wave such as if you are being heavily pushed near/under tower or you want to shove the wave in. If you are always latched onto an ally without ever detaching to proc Bop 'n' Block , you will run out of mana very quickly even in the later stages of the game and your ally will not receive the passive shield. Look for auto attacks on enemy champions when Bop 'n' Block is not on cooldown (and when it is safe to do so) to regain some mana and reattach to your ADC to grant them the shield. Taking advantage of the short cooldown on Bop 'n' Block will ensure more sustainability for both you and your ADC early game and can even be the difference between a won/lost teamfight in any stage of the game.

2. Never roam or return to lane by yourself

Some rules in League are generally unspoken and/or simply viewed as common sense, but even the best of us need educated sometimes. Unlike any other support in the game, roaming into the jungle alone as Yuumi is never a good idea as you will almost always die if caught out by any other champion in the game due to her squishiness. Even walking into the jungle alone to place wards is dangerous if you do not already have vision of the enemy jungler and all other lane opponents, so staying attached to your ADC while they walk into the jungle to help you place vision is recommended. As it goes along with Yuumi's extremely poor mobility, it is also crucial to sync your recalls with your ally and return to lane while attached to an ally since Yuumi should never be alone in lane or forced to return solo as her movement speed is substandard at best.

3. Use your unmatched utility to your advantage

Yuumi's kit alone grants her immense utility for her team but paired with several actives such as Redemption, Twin Shadows, Shurelya's Reverie, etc. make her an unstoppable utility machine. However, it is how you use her kit and all these tools together that will determine how much of a force to be reckoned with you can be. For example, an ally with Yuumi attached will almost always be able to catch any enemy out of position or chase a fleeing enemy with a combination of the slow from Prowling Projectile, the movement speed boost from Zoomies, and the assistance of a mobility active if necessary. Using Zoomies for the ally movement speed boost is just as important as using it for the healing, as the movement speed boost can not only help chase down enemies, but it can get you and your anchor to objectives quicker and also out of sticky situations fast. As the famous saying goes, "We've got the Zoomies!"

4. Use Final Chapter as an engage rather than a reaction

Final Chapter is a great ultimate to use for engaging a teamfight, but is too often used as a reaction tool as a response to other engages and therefore is either misplaced and/or the duration is cut short as it is used too late and Yuumi dies. Using Final Chapter at the right time will almost always force a teamfight and will split the enemy team in order to avoid the damage and becoming rooted, making it easier for your team to capitalize on the enemies that will then be out of position and quickly turn fights in your favor. Remember that you can channel You and Me! between other allies while Final Chapter is being cast in order to reposition the ultimate.

5. Determine who your Anchor is during teamfights carefully

For a large portion of the game, you will generally be following your ADC, however your Anchor should be changing in teamfights depending on the win conditions of your team. Think about it, who would benefit more from the massive utility of Yuumi: the 0/10 Ezreal, or the 12/0 Sett? Is it also worth channeling You and Me! at max distance to heal your nearly dead Ezreal who is always out of position and instantly dying? You can't provide healing and extra adaptive force to your entire team at once, so it is vital that you make these in the moment decisions carefully as one wrong move can cost an objective or the entire game.

Yuumi is an extremely powerful support that is likely here to stay at the top of support tier lists and is undoubtedly one of the best picks for the support role. Use these in-game tips to improve your gameplay, and, "just... don't go somewhere bad."
