Jett, the Killer Kunai - a VALORANT Agent Guide

A closer look at Jett, VALORANT's queen of mobility!

Only a few weeks into VALORANT's beta release, Jett has already dashed into the spotlight as one of the game's most entertaining Agents to play. As part of the Duelist class, Jett is capable of producing highlight reel plays every single round. Combining her mobility skills and precision aiming, Jett has one of the highest skill ceilings of any Agent and can completely dominate fights if piloted well.

Jett's mobility elements are unmatched, allowing her to reposition in tense moments and attack from angles that other Agents simply don't have access to. She is one of the best choices for players with a carry mentality, as her play patterns revolve around individual performance and offer very little in support for other teammates. Let's take a closer look at Jett's ability kit and highlight some of the synergies it offers.

First Ability - (C) - Cloudburst - 100 Credits

Cloudburst is Jett's vision disruption tool. Jett throws a smoke grenade at a target location that explodes upon impact, producing a cloud of smoke that blocks line of sight. Cloudburst can hold up to 3 charges and can be purchased for 100 credits each.

While vision disruption tools are common among many of VALORANT's Agents, Cloudburst is unique in that it can be curved after throwing by holding the ability key in the direction of your crosshair. This capability enables Jett to bend her Cloudburst into contested areas of the map from unorthodox angles. Jett can leverage the vision disruption in a unique way by using her mobility tools to quickly reposition herself and gain line of sight advantages.

Second Ability - (Q) - Updraft - 200 Credits

Updraft is one of the most unique mobility tools in VALORANT, allowing Jett to propel herself upward and reach areas of the map that are inaccessible to other Agents. Updraft synergizes with Jett's passive ability Glide which allows her to glide in the air when descending by holding the space bar key. Gliding enables Jett to float in the air, preventing fall damage while raining down fire upon enemies in mid-air. It should be noted that Jett's accuracy is decreased while using Glide. Updraft can hold up to 2 charges and can be purchased for 200 credits.

Leveraging Updraft is one of Jett's main methods of gaining advantages in fights. Jumping on top of boxes and other vantage points facilitates gaining information. This critically allows Jett to attack from angles that other Agents don't have access to, and therefore do not expect. Updraft can also be used to cut travel time by sending Jett through windows faster than she could otherwise climb. A common play pattern is to use Cloudburst to block vision, followed by Updraft to reposition and attack from above or escape. Some examples of good areas to use Updraft are the bomb room in Site B on Haven where Jett can access all of the high points within the room and attack from above. The same principle can be applied to the entryway boxes in front of the sewers at Site A on Haven. Many enemies simply do not expect that angle of attack and do not remember to check above them when entering these areas of the map.

Signiture Ability - (E) - Tailwind - Free

Tailwind is the second tool in Jett's arsenal of mobility. Tailwind instantly propels Jett in the direction she is moving. This ability is free, stores one charge, and is refreshed upon killing 2 enemies.

Tailwind is Jett's best option for repositioning quickly, enabling her to dash in and out of fights and making her one of the most dangerous Agents to duel. Tailwind can be used in conjunction with Updraft to travel very far distances in short bursts, making Jett incredibly difficult to pin down. The true carry potential of Jett involves having Tailwind refresh after killing two enemies, dancing in and out of combat, and being frustratingly difficult to hit. One critical aspect of this ability is that Jett takes a few moments to arm herself again after using Tailwind, so enemies will have an opportunity to strike first if Tailwind is used too aggressively. With proper usage, Tailwind is incredibly effective in both offensive and defensive maneuvers and provides massive outplay potential in Jett's ability kit.

Ultimate Ability - (X) - Bladestorm - 7 Ultimate Points

Bladestorm equips 5 kunai around Jett that can be thrown individually or all once using the alternate fire button. These kunai are incredibly accurate, deal massive damage if hitting the body, and kill when landing a headshot. Bladestorm refreshes all 5 knives after each kill and is earned by collecting 7 Ultimate Points.

Bladestorm is Jett's strongest tool for completely dominating fights, capable of outputting massive amounts of damage and increasing the utility of Jett's mobility. While Bladestorm is active, Jett no longer suffers decreased accuracy while gliding and stays armed after completing the dash from Tailwind. This synergy allows Jett to combo off in fights, resetting her knives after each kill and refreshing her Tailwind, all while using her mobility to run circles around opponents and escape when under pressure. Bladestorm also has economic implications for Jett, allowing her to save money that would otherwise be spent on guns during the rounds she uses Bladestorm. Bladestorm allows Jett to chain her abilities effectively and carry entire rounds by herself.

Optimal Gun Choices

Jett is versatile in that her mobility allows her to be effective in both close range and long distance fights. Using Updraft to gain access to higher vantage points improves her ability to use rifles and having access to Tailwind makes her an absolute menace to duel in close quarters.

Bulldog - Rifle - 2100 Credits

Bulldog is a flexible rifle with a 24 round magazine size and medium wall penetration. It is capable of a fully-automatic fire rate of 9.15 rounds per second or an alternate zoom (1.25x) fire rate of 4 rounds per second in 3 round bursts. This gun is efficient for Jett in that it performs well in mid-range fights and is flexible in firing options.

Stinger - SMG - 1000 Credits

Stinger is a cost-effective gun that shines in close-quarters skirmishes. At a cost of only 1000 credits and a fully-automatic fire rate of 18 rounds per second, Stinger is a great economic option for the rounds when budgets are tight. This is also a great choice when setting up in areas like the bomb room in Site B on Haven, where Jett can camp on top of the boxes and ledges in the room and kill multiple enemies in quick succession.

Conclusion

Jett has some of the highest outplay potential of VALORANT's Agents and is certainly going to make a swift entrance into the competitive scene. Utilizing Bladestorm in conjunction with Tailwind and Updraft, Jett is capable of deadly accuracy and incredible speed during fights, chaining refreshes on her knives and mobility in Tailwind. While offering little in support of teammates, Jett has so much utility and combat effectiveness packed into her kit that she enables players to single-handedly carry games. If you are a player with a carry mentality, Jett is the perfect option for you.
