Let's take a closer look at the former IMC grunt, Bangalore!
Bangalore is a Legend best suited for aggressive players who like rushing into the line of fire and taking down enemies head-on. She’s built to feel like a typical shooter character, and any FPS player, both experienced and otherwise, will feel right at home playing as her. Bangalore’s kit is great for both attacking and disengaging, making her a solid pick for any team. However, it’s important to take note that the effectiveness of her tactical ability will depend a lot on both who she’s paired with and who she’s fighting.
Abilities
Double Time (Passive) – Bangalore’s passive ability is fairly simple and, in my opinion, one of the more useful ones in the game. When fired upon while sprinting, she gains a 30% movement speed bonus (recently nerfed from 40%). Aside from letting you rush enemies during a fight, it also helps you escape potentially fatal confrontations and ambushes.
Smoke Launcher (Tactical ability) – Her main ability allows her to store up to two charges of smoke grenade clusters that can immediately cover a relatively large area with a wall of smoke. As mentioned earlier, the usefulness of this ability is highly situational, but when used right, it can be a huge game changer.
Rolling Thunder (Ultimate) – For her ultimate, Bangalore marks an area with a flare to call down several missiles that cover a large area around it. These will detonate after a few seconds, dealing a bit of damage and temporarily disorienting anyone caught in it (including yourself and your teammates). Unlike Gibraltar’s Defensive Bombardment, this is best used as a zoning tool due to the bombs’ slow fuse.
Smoke 'em Up
Bangalore’s Smoke Launcher can screw over both your enemies and your own team, so learning how and when you should use it is essential. Generally, you want to use it as a zoning tool, shooting it at the enemy’s position in order to either force them out or give your team an opportunity to push. Be careful though, because depending on where you and your enemies are are, smoking your opponents may also give them a chance to escape or reposition as well.
Speaking of escaping, there are a lot of ways this ability can be used defensively. Aside from using it to cover your escape, it can come in very handy when one of your teammates is downed in the middle of a fight. Throwing down a charge or two can give you ample cover to revive your teammate and leave you with enough time to immediately reposition.
Synergies
While Bangalore does fit in with pretty much any lineup, she works especially well with a few certain legends. Here are two of my favorites:
Bloodhound is both the perfect partner and the worst nightmare of any Bangalore because of his tactical ability and ultimate. If you have one on your team, throwing smoke at an enemy team and forcing them to hunker down will give your Bloodhound a few seconds to safely prod around and pick off a person or two. On the flip side, if you notice an enemy Bloodhound prowling about during a fight, it may not be a great idea to stand around in your smoke wall, even if it means potentially abandoning a downed teammate (I’m not saying you should just run away, but if his eyes start glowing red, going for that sneaky revive will only result in your swift death).
Lifeline can also be pretty good when paired with Bangalore. While using Bangalore’s smoke for extra cover, Lifeline can easily plop down a healing drone to help the team get back up to full health before reengaging. She can also use the smoke for additional protection while reviving downed players with her passive shield, protecting both her and her teammate from enemies spraying into the smoke (it can give away your position if done too close to the edge though).
Conclusion
Communication is the key to making the most out of Bangalore’s abilities. If you don’t make your intentions known to your teammates, you may very well be putting your team at a disadvantage. While I did open this by saying that she’s perfect for aggressive players, her kit also clearly accommodates more defensive playstyles. Because of her flexibility, she’s one of the most popular Legends right now as she’s just a really solid pick overall.
