But, before you get into the sweaty ranked in Marvel Rivals, it’s important to know how it works. Understanding the ranks, how you can climb and how to even start is quite important.

How to Unlock Ranked Mode

Ranked mode isn’t available from the start. To gain access, you must reach account level 10. Leveling up requires XP, which can be earned just by playing the game, or if you want to get there faster, just try completing quests.

On average, it takes 25 to 40 matches to reach level 10. The better the match goes the more XP you will earn. For example, if you get MVP, you will get more XP.

Once unlocked, ranked mode stays available permanently. Players are thrown into a 6v6 format, competing in Domination, Convoy, and Convergence—the same objective-based modes as Quick Play but with tighter coordination and higher stakes.

Before jumping into ranked; it’s highly recommended to practice multiple heroes. You can easily do this by either trying out heroes in the Practice Range or just playing a bunch of Quick Matches. It’s important to familiarize yourself with at least one hero of each role.

All Ranks in Marvel Rivals

The ranks in Marvel Rivals are similar to other games like VALORANT. There are a total of nine ranks. With the exception of the last two, all ranks are divided into subdivisions.

  • Bronze (Lowest)
  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Platinum
  • Diamond
  • Grandmaster
  • Celestial
  • Eternity
  • One Above All (Top Rank/Highest)

Each of the first six ranks (Bronze to Diamond) has three divisions (III, II, I). You need to earn 100 rank points to move up a division.

For example: If you’re in Silver III you need to gain 100 points to reach Silver II. Once you reach Grandmaster and beyond- ranking becomes more fluid based on your overall performance and win rate rather than just points.

Reaching One Above All places you among the top 500 players making it the most prestigious rank in Marvel Rivals. Both One Above All and Eternity have no subdivisions, instead, you have to reach a certain point threshold to climb to the next rank (One Above All).

Keep in mind that climbing past Eternity and into One Above All is incredibly difficult as only the top players hold this rank.

It’s a bit similar to the VALORANT Ranking System, think of Eternity as Immortal and One Above All as Radiant.

How Ranked Matches Work

Ranked matches are more structured than casual games. Teams switch between attacking and defending similar to Overwatch’s competitive mode.

In Convoy, both teams take turns pushing the payload, and the team that covers the most ground wins.

Winning matches earns rank points while losses result in point deductions. If you lose several matches in a row, you risk being demoted to a lower division.

However, Marvel Rivals offers Chrono Shields to protect your rank. These shields prevent immediate demotion. But, once used they won’t help you again if you lose a match.

Once you hit Diamond III and above your team gets an additional strategic advantage—you can ban one hero before the match begins. This adds a tactical layer that allows teams to counter popular picks and force opponents to adapt.

Ranked Matchmaking & Balance

The ranked matchmaking system in Marvel Rivals is skill-based. This means that players are paired with opponents and teammates of similar rank. However, factors like win streaks, personal performance, and team composition can influence matchmaking.

MMR vs. Visible Rank

Marvel Rivals likely has an MMR (Matchmaking Rating) like many other competitive games which is a system running behind the scenes. MMR is a hidden rating that affects who you’re matched with, ensuring balanced games.

Sometimes a player may have a lower visible rank but a higher MMR, causing them to be placed in tougher matches. This is why you sometimes see a Gold player in a Diamond/Platinum lobby.

Ranked Rewards

Climbing the ranks isn’t just for bragging rights—it also comes with exclusive rewards. At the end of each ranked season- players receive rewards based on their highest rank achieved. Here’s what’s up for grabs in Season 1:

  • Gold III and above – Blood Shield costume for Invisible Woman
  • Grandmaster III and above – Silver Crest of Honor
  • One Above All (Top 500 players) – Gold Crest of Honor

These rewards serve as status symbols letting other players know just how skilled (or dedicated) you are. Higher ranks may also offer additional cosmetic rewards like titles, profile banners, and unique hero skins.

How to Climb Ranks Faster

Reaching higher ranks requires skill, strategy, and consistency. Here are a few tips to climb faster:

1. Stick to a Few Heroes

Mastering multiple heroes is tempting but focusing on a small hero pool will make you more effective. Pick at least one hero per role—Duelist, Vanguard, and Strategist—so you can adapt to different team compositions.

Having a go-to pick for each role ensures you’re never at a disadvantage even if your main hero gets taken.

2. Play in a Squad

Solo queuing can be rough and unpredictable. You can have amazing games one moment and frustrating losses the next. Playing with a team is not only more fun but it increases your winning chances as you can communicate better.

3. Prioritize Teamwork Over Kills

Ranked mode isn’t about flashy killstreaks—it’s about winning objectives. A player with 10 eliminations but no objective control is less valuable than someone who stays alive and supports their team.

Great teams rotate together, control objectives, and apply pressure where it matters...

4. Stay Consistent

Climbing ranks takes time and patience. Some days will feel great, and others will be frustrating. But consistency is key—keep practicing and don’t let losing streaks affect your mindset.

Take breaks when needed, review your mistakes, and focus on improving rather than just ranking up. The more you refine your skills; the faster you’ll climb.

Conclusion

The ranked system in Marvel Rivals is designed to challenge players and reward those who climb to the top. Whether you’re aiming for One Above All or just looking to break into Gold, understanding how the ranking structure works will help you strategize better.

So, are you ready to prove yourself? Jump into ranked mode, refine your hero picks, and start climbing the ladder in Marvel Rivals!
