5 Best Spells with Trainer Diputs

We asked Trainer Diputs from #DIGClash what cards he considers the 5 best spells in Clash Royale and why!

In Clash Royale, we all know that you need to destroy as many Crown Towers as you can to get the best score and climb up the ladder. Minions can do this alone but support is always welcomed. This is why we decided to explore the five best spells with Trainer Diputs and to try to gain more knowledge on subjects as to why spells are sometimes favored instead of a normal card, what qualities a spell needs to have to be considered "Meta", and what their combinations/counters are.

This top 5 has been constructed with Trainer Diputs' knowledge.

Spell Importance

We asked Trainer Diputs about the importance of Spells and how they are an integral part of every deck that's currently in the game.

Trainer Diputs: "Every meta deck has one to three spells in it. Three Musketeers is the only deck that uses one spell and it is always either Zap or Log. Most other decks use the combo of Fireball/Poison/Rocket as the heavy spell and as the secondary they use Log or Zap, while only some decks use Tornado as the last spell."

When we asked him why Spells get prioritized over troop cards, Trainer Diputs told us this.

Trainer Diputs: "Spells are used over troops a lot because you're able to play them on your opponent's side of the map to kill their cards and do damage. Against decks like Golem and Three Musketeers, if you don’t have a spell, they will build a massive push in one lane and easily win."

Armed with this knowledge, let's get right in the top 5!

1) The Log

Only costing 2 Elixir, The Log holds an extreme amount of value in almost every defensive scenario. If you're trying to kill a large number of small enemies or you just want to slow your opponent's push, this card will definitely satisfy your needs. It's hard to misplace this card, since it'll just travel 11 tiles forward from where it has been placed.

The Log fits in almost every deck due to it being very cheap. There aren't any specific combinations with this card but an inferior replacement to this card is the Arrows card. It costs 1 Elixir more and doesn't push back enemy minions, but its damage is similar and instead of being a Legendary card it's a Common card.

2) Tornado

Transitioning to the #2 on this list, Tornado costs 3 Elixir and arguably needs the most skill out of all the spells to master. It is amazing for controlling the game because you can pull the opponent's cards to where you want them to go and get defensive value out of this card.

The Tornado doesn't have any cards that are similar to it, but having the right deck for it is important.

Princess and Ice Wizard are the 2 most used "Splash Cards" in the current Clash Royale meta.

Unlike The Log, Tornado is also a card that works very well for setting up combinations with other cards. These so-called "Splash Cards" work very well with the Tornado due to them holding an important presence on the battlefield and excelling against grouped-up minions.

3) Goblin Barrel

Next up is one of the effective cards that you get early on in Clash Royale, the Goblin Barrel. This card is extremely effective at baiting out your enemy's The Log, even though it does cost 3 Elixir compared to The Log costing only 2 Elixir.

Why is it useful for baiting it out then? It's due to the fact that The Log is one of the few cards that gets used in high-level games that deals with large numbers of small minions while also slowing the opponent's offensive push.

If The Log has already been used, you can use Goblin Barrel to cause havoc at an enemy Crown Tower. If your opponent uses this card and you don't deal with it quickly while being on the defensive side, it will cause a lot of damage to the targeted structure.

This card is great in Bait decks and you commonly see that the card gets used in some of the best decks currently in the game.

4) Poison

Coming in at #4, we have the Poison card. This DOT (Damage Over Time) card is considered a great card all-around. It damages almost all of the support cards in Clash Royale down to a sliver of HP left and prevents your opponent from placing minions with low HP for 10 seconds.

Since you can place spells wherever you want on the map, this makes them very effective for quickly obliterating your enemy's minions before they even reach your side of the battlefield.

Poison is an essential counter to the Graveyard Spell since Graveyard spawns multiple skeletons over a period of time and Poison's damage ticks every second.

5) Graveyard

Last but not least is Trainer Diputs' #5 choice, Graveyard. This card is mainly used as a Win Condition which we covered in the previous top 5 with Trainer Diputs. The Graveyard is a Spell that excels at punishing your opponents after they've used their defensive cards, while also riding the wave of gaining an advantage on your opponent.

If you use Graveyard without combining it with Poison or Freeze your enemy will practically be able to defend against Graveyard with every Minion/Damage card in-game.

Poison prevents the enemy from playing low HP minions onto your Graveyard.

Freeze prevents the enemy from playing anything on the targeted area. On top of that, it disables the Crown/King Tower which allows you to stack as many skeletons as possible.

Obsolete Spell Cards

Spells like Lightning, Barbarian Barrel, Giant Snowball, Rage, and Heal rarely ever get played due to the cards not being valuable enough when you're comparing the effect they have to the amount of Elixir that you need to spend to use it.

There are superior replacements for all of these cards:

• For Lightning, use Fireball or Rocket.

• Instead of Barbarian Barrel, you are better off using Log,

• Giant Snowball should be replaced by Zap.

• Rage and Heal are not viable in the current meta.

Conclusion

These were Trainer Diputs' Top 5 Spells. We want to thank him for his essential input and for more professional guides with Clash Royale players or any other game that's currently under the Team Dignitas banner, stay tuned with us!
