Top 5 Mistakes in Clash Royale with Trainer Diputs

We went through the top 5 mistakes in Clash Royale with Trainer Diputs from #DIGClash!

Mistakes... everyone makes them. It's only natural. Lucky for us they're easy to spot and fix in a game like Clash Royale! Nobody plays perfectly, but you should always try to make the best of your capabilities and rise to the top of the leaderboards. All players should grab the tools that are available to them to improve their gameplay and learning from others is often proven to be very beneficial. We've spoken to George "Trainer Diputs" Galvin from the #DIGClash lineup asking him about the top 5 crucial mistakes (in order) that you can make in Clash Royale!

1) Overcommitting

Overcommitting is the main problem that almost every player, no matter their trophies rating, will face. This mistake [overcommitting] is by far the mistake that you should avoid at all cost due to the elixir deficit that you'll have to deal with and against skilled opponents, it's hard to come back.

According to Trainer Diputs, "One of the main mistakes I see in Clash is overcommitting. Knowing when or when not to fully commit is a skill no one has mastered yet but the best players are the best at managing when and when not to."

It's even easier to overcommit when you have a lot of high-cost cards, you should be careful starting from the point that you entered your first game with a new deck since there's a chance of backfiring. The meta heavily favours towards a balanced deck and a deck leaning heavily towards lower/higher cost cards will never give you an advantage on higher rankings.

2) Misplacing a Defensive Card

Placing down offensive cards isn't that hard, but you should be careful with where you place your defensive cards and how much time you take to place it down. The effects of this mistake can cause a large amount of damage. For example, you place your counter minion too far away from the Crown Tower and the minion remains aggro'd on the tower instead of your counter minion. Misplacing a defensive card often happens either because the player doesn't consider the amount of time he has left or he doesn't consider where the enemy may place a counter to his counter!

The Inferno Tower, The Log, and Ice Spirit are 3 examples of the best defensive cards in the game. Misplacing them could result in aggro not being taken off your Crown Tower or the enemy push not being stopped.

Trainer Diputs added, "In big and important matches, you notice that some players get very shaky and they will drop a card in the wrong spot. Players now are adjusting more to live events as more are starting to go on but this was seen more in the past. Another issue is overcommitting and getting punished," informing us that these mistakes could happen to anyone, even the high-level players.

Your clanmates/friends can help you a lot by keeping you level-headed and taking the pressure off of you. It's very important to partake in a medium to large Clan and teamwork, for example, can help you improve your defensive card placement when you need to respond against the offensive party as soon as possible.

3) Poor Elixir Management

When you enter a new arena or discover new cards, you should look up what its elixir cost is so you can keep track of how much elixir the enemy still has on the field and in his bar. In intense fights, your friends can help to prevent this mistake from happening as well.

Always try to avoid a full elixir bar. If your enemy hasn't made an offensive/defensive move yet, put a tower or slow minion down at your King's Tower. If the minion card that you put down is a group of minions, be careful that your group doesn't get split up over two lanes.

Fixing this mistake is also crucial to winning your matches. Counting how much your counter costs for an opposing combination and immediately building upon that with your own offensive combination could win you the game. Just keep in mind that you should always be careful with plays like these that carry high risk with it since they can cost you the game.

4) Not Keeping Track of Your Enemies' Cycle

To fix this mistake, the key is patience. First off, you should figure out what your opponent's deck is built around and the cycle he (likely) regularly goes through. Keeping track of the enemies' cycle can be difficult when starting out but you can improve a lot with just one simple method: practice.

Adapt yourself to the deck that your enemy has and anticipate what cards he'll use to counter you. He'll probably time the counter card placement similarly and you can save your own offensive minion by responding quickly. For example, if you placed a single-target offensive minion down and the enemy puts down a group of smaller minions you should have your AoE Spell ready by hovering over the spot he's most likely going to place the counter.

Mid-fight you can also try to think about other combinations that the enemy could use his cards in to potentially surprise you, the pre-emptive measure could be beneficial later in the game.

5) Activating the King's Tower pre-emptively

This is a mistake that doesn't cost you a lot on the lower levels but can definitely make your push harder to pull off. If you keep the Crown Tower at a low amount of health you can make a push that goes straight to the King's Tower while its cannon is still activating (the interval between the King's Tower cannon activating and the destruction of the 1st Crown Tower is around 4 seconds).

In this case, the Hog gets pulled towards the King's tower thus aggroing it and activating the King's Tower cannon.

You can also activate the King's Tower by using a damaging spell (Lightning, Arrows, Poison etc) upon it, it's easy to avoid doing it!

Conclusion

It's always important to keep improving, the two main focuses that you should have are your game-mentality and practice in the case of Clash Royale. Going on tilt streaks or not focusing enough can ruin your games and cause these mistakes mentioned to occur more often. Keep your game on and keep the winning mindset when you're starting up a new game and don't lose it!
