One Shot, One Kill: a Guide to Improving your Widowmaker Gameplay

An overview on Widowmaker's abilites and how to improve your Widow's Kiss.

Widowmaker is a beautiful and deadly assassin, and an enemy of Overwatch. A villain with no remorse or conviction for killing her victims, she is 2/3 stars on Blizzard's difficulty rank. With this guide, you'll be able to improve on your Elimination count every game.

Widowmaker is classified as a defensive hero and comes equipped with 4 abilities.

Abilities:

- Widow's Kiss

Her first ability is her main weapon, Widow's Kiss, a versatile sniper rifle/fully-automatic machine gun. Her sniper rifle is perfect for long range targets, while her machine gun is more of a medium to close range lifesaver; utilize it when enemies decide to surprise you in close quarter combat.

Tip: Aim for the head! This does the most damage and enables you to get the most out of either weapon mode. Additionally, simply scope or un-scope with right-click to switch modes.

- Grappling Hook

Secondly, Widow is equipped with a Grappling Hook, whoa Batman! Blizzard admiringly took a page right out of Bob Kane's Batman comics! Widow can easily reach rooftops and corridors, that are otherwise, difficult or impossible for most other heroes to scale. Her Grappling Hook launches towards the location which the player is facing, and if scalable, will then quickly launch her to the top of various buildings on any map. This is useful in a pinch, to avoid enemy flanks, set up your defenses from an angle that is hard to reach for the opposing team.

Tip: Use this ability wisely, as it is on a lengthy cooldown of 12 seconds. Widow is the most vulnerable at this time to enemy flanks as her maneuverability and escape are greatly decreased.

- Venom Mine

Widow's third ability is Venom Mine. Venom Mine will attach to almost any surface, and any enemies that walk within its range of motion will be damaged.

Tip: Try using your mine not only defensively, by adhering it to potential flank worthy corridors and passageways both behind and next to you, but also offensively, by shooting it at approaching opponents.

- Infra-Sight
Infra-Sight is Widowmaker's Ultimate ability. Infra-Sight-sight uses Widow's recon visor to locate her enemies using their heat signatures. This ability is shared with your entire team; all allies can see their enemies through walls and buildings for a moderate length of time.

Tip: This ability gives your team a large advantage for flanking, and gives you the ability to perch on high rooftops or in the back of long hallways to snipe an unsuspecting enemy before they know what hit them.

Simple Tips for Improved Gameplay:

• Train in the Practice Range and in AI matches: No pressure and practice on moving targets.

• Watch Streams and Pro Tournaments: Tips and visuals from pro and high elo players can greatly help your gameplay.

Advanced Tips:

• Customize crosshairs in the Controls Menu: Play around with different crosshairs until you find one that you're personally comfortable with and that enables accurate shots, can improve your sniping abilities. Do this by selecting the Options Menu, select Controls, and then select the "ALL HEROES" drop down Menu. Select Widowmaker, this will ensure that only Widow's crosshairs are changed. Then scroll down the screen to Reticle, Type, and select the crosshairs you would like from this final drop down menu. You can also change their color.

• Relative Sensitivity: this allows you to change Widow's scoped sensitivity. The player can change her scoped sensitivity to match that of her machine gun aim with the correct stats.

Here is a link from a Reddit article discussion detailing relative sensitivity and how to achieve it correctly: https://t.co/v8v0vBUyv6

Keep all these tips in mind, and the next time you're on the battlefield, you'll have one kill for every scope of your Widow's Kiss.
