Overpass: How to AWP CT Side

With so many different positions, Overpass can be confusing. Let's learn how to AWP it!

Introduction

Overpass is one of the largest maps in the competitive pool with a variety of aggressive and defensive options for the CT side. This is especially true for the AWP, where the long lanes on the map and the potential for various boosts can give you the advantage in any initial aim duel. This guide will show you some of the strategies you could use as an AWPer on the CT side of Overpass as well as give you an idea of some of the positions you can expect to face as a Terrorist player.

A Side

In my opinion, the A site is one of the most fun places to hold in all of CSGO, as the map timings allow the CT players to get into a variety of forward positions to slow the Terrorist side down. This can create an interesting dynamic where the Terrorists and CTs trade damage and utility in an attempt to slowly gain map control before making that final push onto the A site. This is a dream come true for any aggressive AWPer, as it allows a skillful player to make an impact on the game early to dictate the pace of the round before falling back to a defensive position. Due to the size of the A side of the map, I’ll be breaking this side of the map up into a few key areas.

Toilet/Connector area

As an aggressive player, an AWPer can get into a number of unexpected positions in the toilet area. With an ideal spawn, you can even push up close to the fountain and get a pick as the Terrorists enter playground and fountain. The first angle is a simple push up to the stairs; this can be a tough shot but, if combined with a flash from a teammate, can give you an early and safe opportunity to pick an opponent before falling back.

The second quick peek is achieved by jumping up to party via the park benches; however, this requires slightly more advanced movement which if you fail can cause you to get picked due to losing speed. However if you get good at this jump, this is probably the better position to peek from as it gives you an easier shot on fountain and can negate an enemy’s smoke. You can also potentially hide behind a smoke and wait for players to push through playground to switch up your positioning slightly.

You can also potentially AWP connector. This is a really long hallway that gives you a good advantage versus anyone trying to peek it or push it. However, if you’re stuck in connector with an AWP, it can be difficult to deal damage when you get pushed from multiple angles/ In these cases, it might be beneficial to have a player holding toilets to facilitate your escape.

If you’re looking to be more defensive or for a secondary position after your initial shot, these two spots in toilet can be used to switch up your positioning. You can still be vulnerable from multiple angles with these positions, so it's best to once again to take a shot and fall back to site with the assistance of a grenade or teammate.

Long A

Long A is quite commonly AWPed because you have such an advantage over riflers if you hold the angle due to the length of the lane. There are two spots to hold here. Corner is the simplest as you can get there yourself and be very effective. This is a very common angle to hold, however, so you have to worry about being counter AWPed or flashed out of position.

Your other option is being boosted up onto flowerpot. Here you have the same goal but you can use the slight change in angle to throw a counter AWPer off. Due to the length of long A, you can easily take two or even three shots before falling back behind a smoke as well as using a flash to help you repeek over the flowers.

A Site

AWPing A site can be a little more difficult because it is enclosed, but you can still get picks as the enemy enters the site. If people are pushing long, you can hold that angle from bank where you have a huge advantage over anyone pushing without using any utility. However, it is easy to get smoke or mollyed out of this location.

If you know players are coming from toilet you can fall back to trash/bin, where you will have a good headshot angle on anyone pushing into the site. This requires very quick reactions but you only have one angle to worry about unlike many of the aforementioned positions.

B Site

The B Site is much simpler than A, but still has a couple of positions that can be AWPed effectively. The first is aggressively pushing monster. Here you can go for a pick on players rushing the site before falling back to ABC to kill players pushing onto site. You can potentially get caught out by rushing players, however, so you need a player to get ready to trade with you or molly the rush.

The second and more defensive option is to AWP from heaven. Here there is a long distance between where you are posted up and where they enter the site giving you the superior angle. Furthermore, you can hold both the short entrance and monster making this a very versatile angle.

Conclusion

Overpass is one of my favourite maps due to the flexible nature of positions making each round feel unique. As part of this AWPing from around the map is fun both fun and rewarding offering various opportunities for aggressive and defensive AWPers alike with enough positions to switch every round. I hope these short outlines of some of the CT AWPing spots have given you some ideas to add to your game and with practice you’ll be using them effectively in no time.
