SMITE Season 6 Gameplay Changes

A quick look at some of the big changes coming to Smite in Season 6!

As Season 6 approaches for SMITE, we are faced with several amazing changes. Let's dive in and take a more in-depth look at some of the things hitting the battleground for the upcoming season!

Cross Play and Cross Progression

One of the biggest and exciting things coming is cross platform play and progression. Players from Xbox One, PC, and now even the Nintendo Switch will all be able to befriend, invite, and play with each other. Cross-Platform voice chat for SMITE will also be available.

Some might not know that your input method will determine what matches you'll be placed in for ranked. For instance, if your input is that of a keyboard and mouse, you will be matched with others of the same. The same is apparent for the controller as well. Players will find higher quality matches more quickly, however, by leaving cross-input matchmaking enabled. For casual matchmaking, the players will be matched regardless of the platform or input method. Keyboard and mouse support is going to be added to Xbox One at the launch of cross-play. You'll also be able to play regular and custom matches with your friends on different platforms.

Your queue will be defaulted to cross-input matchmaking regardless of the player preferences. Players will also be able to report players for poor behavior even if they're on other platforms. As for the esports scene, HiRez will still be supporting separate teams for console and PC respectively. I asked a few people as well what they were most excited for regarding cross-platform and most responded with the same thing: They're super happy that they'll be able to have their skins, masteries, and account level shared with the other platforms and that they will also be able to play with their long-time friends on the different platforms as well.

Release of Long-Anticipated Gods

The release of new Gods always stirs up some talk in the Smite Community. The next and 100th God emerging is Merlin, who is a triple stance-switching mage. His kit focuses on Arcane, Fire, and Ice type magic. He looks extremely fun and useful in almost all roles. The next three Gods that we know of making their way to the Battlefield later in Season 6 are Set, Horus, and Jörmungandr. Although we don't know much about their kits and types, we as a community are extremely excited for their arrival.

Smite Season Ticket/Battle Pass

The Smite Season Ticket that we've known for many years is going to be removed and a new system of progression called the Battle Pass will be added. Players will earn Battle Points (BP) from playing any normal or ranked game modes. They'll be able to earn a series of rewards for free by earning BP. It can also be purchased which will unlock a skin and increase the amount of Battle Points earned. Which will then unlock another series of rewards that are also unlocked by BP. New Battle Passes will be added throughout the year. With this, the Triumphant Chest System will be removed as well. The chests will now be earned with the Battle Pass at specific levels. Your Fantasy Points Boosters will be converted to BP Team Boosters.

Ranked

A soft reset will be implemented at the beginning of the season. All players will start in Bronze and qualification games have been removed. Your MMR (Match Making Ratio) will also be visible now. The leaderboards will now be MMR based. The TP that you'll gain has been increased. This will allow the players to progress through the ranks more quickly through the divisions and tiers. Rewards will be removed from the top end placements of the God Leaderboard. Gem rewards will be added. Players will earn 50 gems each split for 75 wins in Ranked. They will also win a Winner's Chest each split for 15 wins in ranked.

Conquest Objectives

Although there are several adjustments on the Conquest map for Season 6, the biggest and main one will be the new objective. Totem of Ku has been added to the solo lane. After the totem takes damage, the team will receive bonus movement speed and mana regeneration which will give solo laners a more a direct way to impact their team during the earlier stages of the game.

It is located behind the Fire Giant by the solo lane's middle entrance. This Objective is a Neutral Structure, not a boss monster. Its Base Health is 300 and increases by 250 each time it is successfully taken. The Totem has base physical protection of 15 and base magical protection of 10. The Totem of Ku will spawn at 1 minute, will respawn 1 minute after it is taken successfully, and will despawn at 15 minutes. Once active, allied towers provide an empowered area that grants allied gods that step into it a buff of 5% movement speed and +25 MP5. This buff lasts for 10 seconds when leaving an empowered tower. It also provides 25 Gold to each team member when it is taken.

Role Queue

Normal and ranked conquest will now have role queue. Players will be able to choose two roles upon queuing. The matchmaking will prioritize matching specific roles to lobbies that will make up a team, meaning you'll be more in favor of getting the role you're queueing for. However, if there are tied scenarios, the player with the higher MMR in ranked, or the player who has not gotten their preferred role recently, will get the priority.

In conclusion, Season 6 is going to be filled with new items, gods, and changes. Hopefully there will be something for all to enjoy. New experiences for old and new players as well as our friends from the other platforms may be just what we needed to bring us as a community closer together. Good luck reaching your goals in Season 6. We'll see you on the Battleground!
